Sexual characteristics

Primery sexual characteristics

The reproductivesystem are the primary sexual characteristics.

Secondary sexual characteristics

The reproductivesystem are the primary sexual characteristics. During puberty between the ages of eleven fifteen the reproductive system matures.

Reproductive cells

Reproductive cells carry out the funcion of reproduction

SPERM are the male reproductive cells.They havea head and a long tal called flagellum.

OVA are the female reproductive cells.From puberty an ovum,matures every month.

The male reproductive system

Is made up of: TESTICLES-are outside the body.They

produce sperm. They are covered by a bag of skin called the scrotum.

VAS DEFERENS- take sperm from the testicles to the uretha.

URETHRA- takes the sperm outside the body. SEMINAL VESICLES and PROSTATE-

produce seminal vesicles fluid and shen it to the urethra.

The female reproductive system

Is made up of: OVARIES – produce the ova. UTERUS– is where the baby develops. FALLOPIAN TUBES– connect the

ovaries to the uterus. VAGINA– connects the uterus to the

outside of the body. VULVA – is the external part of the

female reproductive system.

Fertilisation

Fertilisation occurs when an ovum and sperm join inside the fallopian tubes and they create a single cell called zygote. The zygote goes down the fallopian tubes it is inplanted in the wall of the uterus and it becomes an embryo.

Pregnancy Pregnancy lasts about nine month and ends in a birth. Different structures are created to protect the

embryo. Placenta- takes nutrients and oxygen from the mother`s

blood to the embryo. Umbilical cord- connects the embryo to the placenta. Amniotic sac- protects the embryo. The baby develops step by step: After 3 months- the embryo has all its organ.It becomes

foetus. After 5 months- The baby´s body develops and is starts

moving. After 9 months- The baby is ready to be born.

Labour

The process of giving birth is called labour.

Labourtakes placs in three phases: Dilation- rhythmic contractions. Expulsion-the baby is born. After birth- the placenta comes out.
