Many went on tours around the school then listened to the school band, choir and Kapahaka as they per- formed in the hall. I know many grandparents joined the children for a picnic, whilst others took the opportunity to enjoy lunch at Chart- well Square with their grandchildren. Please pass on our thanks to the grandparents who came. Thank you also to the parents and staff who helped on the day. GALA UPDATE Not long to go now! We have planned for 3,000 people to come along so please, tell your work colleagues, friends and family to come! Throughout the day we battled against a field of 14 people. We played 6 games over a period of 5 hours. Samuel Eddy was 1st, Tony Wang 2nd, Brandon Cuellar 3rd and Jansen Cao 4th. For our endeavours we received a cash prize and a certificate. It was an awe- some experience. LIP SYNC RESULTSLast Friday we had our annual ‘Lip Sync’ event. The competition was fierce, with 9 amazing items, all very different to each other. The judges, Shirley Tyson, Hannah Henderson and Fynn Bodley-Davis, were faced with the difficult task of identifying the winners.Overall winner: ‘Lutcha Circus’ – Briar Miller, Ariana McManus-Emery and Kate Woolerton;Most Creative: ‘King’ – Matt Knox and Ben Rex;Best Costumes: ‘Crazy Emanons’ – Cara Wynne, Anna Morrison, Kelsey Fletcher and Brenna Creahan;Best Lip Syncing: ‘The Long Road’ – Ethan Bron, Reuben Bron, Caleb Rich and James Eade.The school have voted for the group they most enjoyed, and the ‘People’s Choice’ award will be announced tomorrow at the Whole School As-sembly.A HUGE congratulations to all who entered for all their hard work and amazing performances!! Several of the items will perform again at the School Gala on 12 November.CONGRATULATIONS!Celine Mason and Jade Houston, recent prizewinners in the Faber Castell colouring com-petion. Over 21,000 entries were received and the girls were two of the 250 winners.Tessa Klapka-Innes and Aiden Nelson, part of the Hamilton Devils U10 team that won the recent Inline Hockey National Championships.VISION AND HEARING TESTINGThe technician will be visiting our school on Tuesday 22 November. If you would like to have your child tested please contact the school office. All new entrant children will be routinely tested unless you request otherwise, or if your child is currently under specialist care for a hearing or vision defect.

Hukanui Students Commended for Performance in Interna-tional Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) Mathematics 2011Students from Hukanui School demonstrated high level Mathematical skills when they participated in the recent ICAS Mathematics Competition.68 students participated and 33 achieved special awards. The best achievement came from two stu-dents in Year 6, who received High Distinction, which put them in the top 1 percentile for their age in New Zealand. The competition is designed to test a range of Mathematical skills.
