Saucy Pork Chops With Orange Slices

Welcome Home

PreparationPierce pork chops with a fork several times on each side Combine pork chops and next 3 ingredients in a large shallow dish or large zip-top plastic freezer bag Cover or seal and chill for 30 minutes

Remove chops from marinade discarding marinade Sprinkle chops evenly with salt and black pepper

Stir together marmalade and barbecue sauce in a small bowl Brush one side of pork chops evenly with half of marmalade mixture

Grill chops marmalade mixture side up and covered with grill lid over medium-high heat (350deg to 400deg) 10 minutes Turn pork chops and brush evenly with remaining half of marmalade mixture Grill 10 minutes or until done Remove chops from grill and let stand 5 minutes

Grill orange slices covered with grill lid over medium-high heat 1 minute on each side Serve with pork chops

4 (1 14-inch-thick) boneless pork loin chops may be substituted Reduce grilling time to 8 minutes on each side or until done

From showing kids how to handle the screening process to helping pack their carry-on bags you can look forward to a fun experience at the airport when you have made the right preparations Here are some simple ways to prepare for the airport when traveling with kids

Tips For Traveling With Kids Airport Safety

1 Arrive to the airport as early as possible When you find yourself rushing to the airport or anywhere else important items are frequently left behind A decade ago we could get through airport security even if we left our driverʼs license at home But these days a missing driverʼs license could very well mean that you will not get into the airport let alone get on your airplane A document organizer can help you keep your identification and plane tickets all in one place If you are traveling out of the country with your child(ren) donʼt forget their passports Also if only one parent is traveling internationally itʼs best to have a letter of permission from the other parent acknowledging that you are allowed to take the child(ren) out of the country Plan to arrive at least two hours before your flight so you can get your bags checked have enough time to visit the restroom get through security and to be relaxed and comfortable as you board the airplane

2 Locate restrooms close to your gate You can almost always expect some last-minute trips to the restroom especially with children in tow so call the airport ahead of time to find out where restrooms are located in the area of the airport you plan on using Planning your route ndash even at the airport terminal ndash will help you maximize your time and avoid unnecessary delays

3 Practice the airport screening process at home Some kids may be alarmed or scared by the airport screening process but you can help them become more comfortable by practicing at home Just let them know what to expect and walk them through the steps so they are not overwhelmed at the last minute Check your airlineʼs website for the latest security requirements It will detail out what items can and cannot be taken on board as carry-on luggage and what must be checked through to your destination

6 Point out the security officers when you arrive Make sure your kids know who to ask if they get lost This is especially important for larger families traveling together explain that security officers will be wearing a particular uniform and standing by the gates and entryways at the airport Your kids should be prepared to talk to a security officer if they drift away from your traveling group by mistake

7 Make sure kids are dressed for traveling Uncomfortable clothing can make it very difficult to travel without stress so make sure everyone is wearing clothing that is comfortable and clothing that can be removed easily if necessary Layers work best for traveling especially when youʼre crossing climates and time zones Pack at least one extra set of clothes with the carry-on luggage for very young kids who may be at risk for spilling something or soiling their clothes

4 Keep snacks on hand You may need to take a break during your airport travels and you wonʼt want to waste time standing in line at the food court or concessions stands if youʼre on a tight schedule Pack a few snacks that the kids will enjoy but be prepared to discard them before entering the last gates for your flight if necessary

5 Help the kids pack their backpacks and carry-on luggage You want to avoid last-minute delays at the X-ray machine as much as possible so make sure your kids arenʼt sneaking in extra items at the last minute Let them know that the bags will be checked with the X-ray machine as you enter the gates and help them pack the bags carefully to comply with all security guidelines

8 Give older kids a map of the airport If you are traveling with both young kids and teens consider partnering everyone up and giving the oldest a map This can help everyone navigate back to the right area in case they get lost and it will make it much easier to keep everyone on schedule

9 Instruct kids not to talk to strangers The airport is a crowded busy place so itʼs essential that kids practice safety first Make sure they know not to talk to strangers or even other kids as you move around the airport and keep them as close to you as possible

Maui Vacations Arent What You Think

Some people have certain ideas about Hawaii itʼs touristy itʼs expensive itʼs just plain tiredhellipWhile itʼs true that many people visit the Aloha State you have to see for yourself whether or not the stunning beaches tantalizing trade winds and unforgettable sunsets have been used up by all the people who have visited or whether they are on such a level as to rise above the labels usually attributed to high-traffic destinations Hereʼs a hint if you do things right you wonʼt be disappointed by your visit to Hawaii

One thing that would start you off on the right track would be to visit Maui Yes this island is a tourist hotspot but there are plenty of hidden treasures and untrammeled portions of beach that will make you think twice before calling this place boring or predictable With over 30 miles of sandy shoreline fit for swimming surfing and snorkeling thereʼs bound to be a bit of beach for you to call your own Join the crowds for a scuba dive or head off on your own for a snooze either way you probably wonʼt find much reason to complain

Specifically make note of Kaanapali Beach which has been named one of the worldʼs tops and DT Fleming Beach Park another expertʼs favorite Plenty more big names exist but donʼt be shy about trekking off in search of someplace different someplace that is literally off the beaten path Rumor has it that these hidden gems do exist but their supreme beauty will want you to follow the lead of so many others and keep their delights to yourself See them experience them and then conveniently forget where they were Until your next visit that is

Maui beaches are also good for whale watching during the months of December through May so get out the binoculars or even better charter a yacht to take you out towards the action These massive mammals have a certain elegance that cannot be easily described so hereʼs wishing you the best of luck in catching a glimpse of these exciting inhabitants of Mauiʼs waters

The list of unique hardly-monotonous activities goes on and on so hopefully you havenʼt yet written Maui off as the same old stuff Sea kayaking eco-tours Polynesian shows art galleries and a goat dairy should all keep you busy for a few days without ever feeling that youʼre being herded around in a bland tour-like atmosphere Maui invites you to explore the world at your own pace and with your own goals in mind so pack a lunch and set out for a rainforest hike or lie back in a hammock either way youʼre doing the right thing

To really do the right thing avoid the standard step of booking a hotel That doesnʼt mean you should set up a tent on the beach (although that would definitely be a way to do things differently) rather consider reserving a vacation rental A funky one-of-a-kind property will suit your taste to rebel against the norm and the privacy that goes along with your beach side villa will satisfy your need for escape

If youʼre willing to give it a try Maui will be the kind of vacation that breeds little complaint besides the fact that it will have been far too short Reserve a flight pick out a winner from the array of Maui Vacation Rentals available online and then prepare to forget every stereotype youʼve been foolish enough to believe about Hawaii Youʼll have plenty of time to form your own opinions once youʼve slipped off your shoes and taken a deep breath of fresh Maui air

bull School supplies are discounted this time of year Spend a few extra dollars to get some pencils paper and notebooks for kids who will show up to school without them Start a neighborhood school supply drive to encourage others to give as well Most teachers will be happy to hand these out to children who need them Throughout the school year ask the teacher to let you know about students who need supplies for school Encourage friends and family members to do the same thing for their childrenʼs classrooms

bull Give of your time by volunteering to tutor a child once or twice a week The time you spend with a child who needs some extra help will be remembered and appreciated You can make a difference in the life of a child who might otherwise find themselves falling behind

bull If you are able volunteer some time to be a classroom helper It can be very hard for a teacher to help every child who needs it especially when they have 30 or more students to teach You can help in other ways as well Organize the class party make copies for the teacher be a guiding hand when students get unrulyhellip The ways your presence in the classroom can help are limitless

bull Establish a carpool program in your neighborhood Rising gas prices and tight schedules take their toll A community carpool can take the edge off and give parents -- including you-- a break

bull If your children ride the school bus offer to spend a day or two a week on the bus You can help the bus driver by quieting loud and active children Engage the kids in songs and stories This keeps them occupied and gives the bus driver the ability to pay attention to the road without having to worry about what is going on behind them

When people think of students dreading the upcoming school year they usually laugh it off because many times the dread is all about having to do homework and ldquowasting timerdquo in the classroom when they would rather be playing But many kids are dreading school because they canʼt afford the clothes and supplies they need or they are struggling with a subject and anxiety overtakes them If you can help by donating time school supplies or money you will find that making others happy in this way makes you a happier person too

When you are at the school supply store give some thought to those who do not have the ability to buy clothes books folders and backpacks There are many families who are struggling just to feed their children Buying school supplies is difficult and sometimes an impossibility Teachers often have to purchase classroom supplies on their own Not every school is able to provide enough to satisfy the needs If you can help students and teachers in any way you will find there really are benefits to giving Following are a few different ways you can contribute

Many American children are starting back to school soon and no matter how young or old they may be There is always a long list of items that must be purchased in preparation This list is an overview of the basic stuff most kids need - whether theyre starting kindergarten or college

1 Backpacks and bags Attending school usually involves keeping track of books papers pens and more So carrying bags are a must Younger children prefer backpacks and many cute ones are available just about anywhere these days

If your children are a bit older - particularly in junior high or high school - be sure to get rugged durable backpacks that will last These older kids carry very heavy loads sometimes and it helps to spend a little extra money for backpacks right at the beginning of the year Ive found that hiking backpacks work best for high school students because they have large carrying capacities and theyre quite strong and durable Buying these types of backpacks will ensure they last through the entire school season instead of having to be replaced halfway through the year

College bound students might prefer laptop and gadget bags sling bags messenger or duffle bags instead

2 Paper Supplies This includes notebook paper spiral notebooks pocket folders and binders among other things Most kids need all of these from the time they start first or second grade though the needs get heavier as the children get older Younger children might need art paper and older children might need graph paper so the needs vary slightly but the basics tend to stay the same

High School honor students and college bound students will also need special books and these usually need to be purchased Book covers are also useful for all grades

3 Writing Tools Pens and pencils are generally thought of automatically but often there are other writing related materials that must be purchased for school as well Younger children often need crayons and paint for instance while older kids may need markers and colored pencils

As children move into junior high high school and college theyll require a larger variety of the basics too Instead of just blue pens for instance they often need blue black and red Its good to know the teachers at this point by the way Some do not allow gel pens to be used for instance while others may forbid red pens or yellow markers

4 Misc Tools These change from one grade to another but generally additional tools of some kind are needed for just about any age range Examples of school tools needed includes rulers protractors and calculators

5 Clothing This is usually a given but a checklist always helps Be sure to buy pants shirts socks and underclothing Dont forget to get new shoes some kids need more than one pair because specialized shoes are needed for gym or athletic programs Also be sure to buy athletic or gym cloths if theyre required These could include shorts t-shirts or sweat suits

Sweaters and lightweight jackets are usually needed for the cool early mornings and heavier coats will be needed within a few months of school starting

Most schools have dress codes these days too so its a good idea to get a copy of that for reference before you go clothes shopping You wouldnt want your daughter to have a whole new wardrobe of tank tops only to find out theyre not allowed to be worn at school for instance

2 Paper Supplies This includes notebook paper spiral notebooks pocket folders and binders among other things Most kids need all of these from the time they start first or second grade though the needs get heavier as the children get older Younger children might need art paper and older children might need graph paper so the needs vary slightly but the basics tend to stay the same

High School honor students and college bound students will also need special books and these usually need to be purchased Book covers are also useful for all grades

3 Writing Tools Pens and pencils are generally thought of automatically but often there are other writing related materials that must be purchased for school as well Younger children often need crayons and paint for instance while older kids may need markers and colored pencils

As children move into junior high high school and college theyll require a larger variety of the basics too Instead of just blue pens for instance they often need blue black and red Its good to know the teachers at this point by the way Some do not allow gel pens to be used for instance while others may forbid red pens or yellow markers

4 Misc Tools These change from one grade to another but generally additional tools of some kind are needed for just about any age range Examples of school tools needed includes rulers protractors and calculators

5 Clothing This is usually a given but a checklist always helps Be sure to buy pants shirts socks and underclothing Dont forget to get new shoes some kids need more than one pair because specialized shoes are needed for gym or athletic programs Also be sure to buy athletic or gym cloths if theyre required These could include shorts t-shirts or sweat suits

Many American children are starting back to school soon and no matter how young or old they may be There is always a long list of items that must be purchased in preparation This list is an overview of the basic stuff most kids need - whether theyre starting kindergarten or college

1 Backpacks and bags Attending school usually involves keeping track of books papers pens and more So carrying bags are a must Younger children prefer backpacks and many cute ones are available just about anywhere these days

If your children are a bit older - particularly in junior high or high school - be sure to get rugged durable backpacks that will last These older kids carry very heavy loads sometimes and it helps to spend a little extra money for backpacks right at the beginning of the year Ive found that hiking backpacks work best for high school students because they have large carrying capacities and theyre quite strong and durable Buying these types of backpacks will ensure they last through the entire school season instead of having to be replaced halfway through the year

College bound students might prefer laptop and gadget bags sling bags messenger or duffle bags instead

2 Paper Supplies This includes notebook paper spiral notebooks pocket folders and binders among other things Most kids need all of these from the time they start first or second grade though the needs get heavier as the children get older Younger children might need art paper and older children might need graph paper so the needs vary slightly but the basics tend to stay the same

High School honor students and college bound students will also need special books and these usually need to be purchased Book covers are also useful for all grades

bull If your children ride the school bus offer to spend a day or two a week on the bus You can help the bus driver by quieting loud and active children Engage the kids in songs and stories This keeps them occupied and gives the bus driver the ability to pay attention to the road without having to worry about what is going on behind them
