Monitoring Vital Signs(1)
The Assistant will have an attachment that will take the patient’s vital signs.
The vital signs will show on the nurse’s screen for the nurse to monitor while the patient is waiting.
Advantages: This system will help alert healthcare providers about potentially dangerous changes in patient health.
Providing Information(1)
Following registration the device will inform the patient about their estimated wait time. This time will be changed and monitored by the receptionist and/or nurse.
Patients will also be given information about what will happen next in their visit to the Emergency Department and what to expect, as well as things to keep an eye on.
Providing Information(2)Communication of estimated waiting time
and availability of immediate treatments for minor injuries or symptoms increases the time patients are willing to wait
Giving information about the process can eliminate unrealistic expectations of patients in the waiting room, which will help to improve their experience
Positive distraction(1)The patients have the option to do a
variety of different things to prevent them from being bored while they are in the waiting room. There are options to:Tour the hospital EDTake a Virtual Tour of a city or landmark,
such as Paris, New York, DC, Grand Canyon, etc.
Visit the Second Life ERBrowse around Google Earth
Positive distraction(2)Distracting the patient from their pain can
help them to be more at ease and calmer while waiting in the ED
Positive Distraction can help to reduce the number of patients that leave without being seen
Patients are given freedom to travel the world virtually while waiting
