Consistently staying among the top fifty places to work at, Apple has
some great HR lessons to preach.
O Adding to all luxuries, Apple announced some great news for its employees last month, releasing a number of new perks for its staff, including education reimbursements, extended parental leave, and donations from the company matching the hours of non-profit work by its staff.

Apple has offered educational assistance to its part-time retail
employees and full-time employees that cover courses
associated with any job at Apple, including courses of the
English language.

The perks were revealed in a memo, released by Fortune – a
smart move by Apple to showcase its offerings to
potential talent out there in the job market.

According to Denise Young-Smith, head of HR at Apple, who officially released the perks, “We know how hard all of you are
working: from the teams designing, producing, launching, and supporting our incredible products to the thousands of retail employees sharing the excitement
and experience face to face with our customers every day”.

He added, “You are the reason we are able to change the world, again
and again. Because we want to make sure you get the support you need,
we’re excited to introduce significant changes to our global well-being
programs for both part-time and full-time employees.”

A striking perk released by Apple is that offered to soon-to-be-parents. New mothers can take a fully paid leave for up to four weeks before
their due date and up to twelve-to-fourteen weeks after the birth of
their baby. Other new parents will be receiving up to six weeks of fully
paid leaves.

O Another amazing offering by the HR at Apple is that of the student loan refinancing program aimed at easing “the burden of past loans and cover future expenses” for college-aged children of employees. In addition, Apple has also stressed on a stronger commitment to its social responsibility.
O In line with this endeavor, Apple has initiated a Matching Gifts program that is extended to all Apple employees worldwide.

Through this CSR initiative, Apple will be donating money to causes where its
employees are volunteering their time. Apple has, until date, matched more than
USD 25 million of the charitable contributions of its employees.

Remarking on these initiatives, Young-Smith adds in the release, “For the first
time we’ve probably got four generations in the workplace at the same time, and we
need a plethora of programs”.
