  • The cost of living has increased while wages have decreased. Many Californians have had to take furlough, making it impossible to make ends meet.

  • Financial resources are limited:
  • financial aid and student loans are less accessible due to the financial crisis.

5. Social Networking=Success

Sadly, Vincent rarely if ever networked with others. During his life time Vincent only ever sold one of his 2000 art pieces. He suffered from extreme loneliness, depression and frustration. Vincent committed suicide in 1890, he was 37. In 1990 this 1890 van Gogh sold for$82.5 Million Pablo Picasso1881-1973 Experienced severe poverty in early life. Pablo had a great passion for art as did Vincent, but realized the value of networking with others. At age 26 Pablo had his own gallery space. During the course of his life Pablo sold 1000s of art pieces. The Pablo estate was valued at $50 Million in 1973. 6. Successful Connections 7. AppleSteve Jobs and Steve Wozniak Wozniak had shown Jobs his simple builtcomputer machine. This impressed Jobs andhe believed he could sell the machine for aprofit.It was Wozniaks computer engineering abilities combined with Jobs marketing abilities that led to what we now know as Apple, Inc.In 2008, Apple had reported revenues of $33.04Billion and profits of $11.15Billion annually. 8. Dixie ChicksMartie & Emily ErwinNatalie Maines The Dixie Chicks started with sisters Martie and Emily Erwin who played music on the street corners of Dallas for small change. The sisters later met and invited Natalie Maines to join their country music rock group.As of 2009 the Dixie Chicks have won 13 Grammy awards with over 30.5 million in record sales for their first three albums. 9. Dolce and Gabbana D&G Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana This world famous design duo met whileworking as assistants at an atelier in Milan.Sharing a strong passion for fashion, theymade their name together in 1985 whenMilano Collezioni invited them to take part in a fashion show launch.By 1997, their company had a reported turnover of 400Million. 10. GoogleSergey Brin and Larry Page Google started in 1996 as a research project by Page while he was undertakinghis PhD at Stanford University. Page was joined by Sergey Brin, also a StanfordUniversity PhD student.Together they created the largest and most popular search engine in history.In 2006 Google reported an advertising revenue of US$10.492Billion and in March 2009 Googles market cap was reported at $103.15Billion. 11. Martin Siegfried & Roy Horn Siegfried and Roy Both had fathers who were abusive alcoholics and soldiers of Hitlers army.Determined to leave their difficult pasts behindthem, Siegfried and Roy had taken positions towork on the same ocean liner. On the ocean linerthey met and discovered they shared a passion and desire to perform their magic before live audiences. This connection would lead them to achieving the most sold out, gross profit producing show in Vegas history with an annual payment of $36Million per year.   • Invented the phonograph, motion picture
  • camera, and the electric light bulb.
  • Edison was quoted as saying it would take a
  • matter of a few weeks to invent the light bulb.
  • It is said he tried over 6,000 different
  • carbonized plant fibers, looking for a carbon
  • filament for his light bulb. During one of his
  • experiments, Edisons laboratory was destroyed
  • by an explosion.
  • Henry Ford loaned Edison the money to build a new laboratory.
  • Edison succeeded where others had failed. Edison chose to look at the big picture and created a lighting system including wiring, plugs, connectors, to operate more than one light bulb at once.
  • Thomas Edison held a world record of 1093 patents for inventions.

  • Born and raised in England, Joanne started
  • writing fantasy stories when she was 6 years old.
  • Her first story, Rabbit, was filled with interesting
  • characters such as a large bee called Miss Bee.
  • Eventually she graduated from school to become a
  • bilingual secretary in French. She found it difficult to
  • remain attentive and often would write ideas for stories than taking notes.
  • Joanne married and had daughter. The marriage eventually ended in divorce, that caused Joanne to suffer from major depression to the point she even contemplated suicide, she was unemployed and living off welfare.
  • Despite her suffering Joanne became determined to write. Her writings in the summer of 2000, had reportedly earned over $400 million for her first three Harry Potter books, which have been printed in 35 languages and sold over 30 million copies.
  • She is now known as the most successful writer in the world with the most sales in the shortest amount of time.

  • became interested in drawing at an early age,
  • selling his first sketches to neighbors when he
  • was only seven years old.
  • At 16 Walt was sent to France to drive an
  • ambulance for Red Cross, the ambulance was
  • covered stem to stern in Disney cartoons.
  • At 21 Walt had started to create The Alice
  • Comedies, he ran out of money, and went bankrupt.
  • Walt and his brother Roy pooled all their resources together. They obtained a loan for $500 to set up shop in their uncles garage. Shortly, after they received an order from New York and expanded.
  • Walt wanted to create the Happiest Place on Earth known as Disneyland. Walt was turned down 302 times before he got financing.
  • Today, due to his persistence, millions of people have shared in the joy of Disney.
