How to setup Super Chat to monetize YouTube Live Streaming

What is SuperChat?

Starting off 2017 right, YouTube has just added an all new feature for their successful live streaming offering called “Super Chat”. In a recent blog post, Google describes the new feature as “a highlighted message in the chat stream that stands out from the crowd to get even more of your favorite creator’s attention.” (YouTube Blog)

What is SuperChat?

These messages will replace the “Fan Funding” feature helping content creators monetize their channels and live broadcasts. If successful, live streaming will become the dominant avenue for content creators to monetize their content through user donations.

How do I use Super Chat?

Step 1 - As of Feb 2017, you must have at least 1,000 YouTube subscribers…Step 2- Check to see if you are in a supported countryStep 3 - You must have “Monetization” enabled for your channelStep 4 - You must have “Super Chat” enabledStep 5 - You need to connect your account with a payment system

How it works...

This feature is only available while content creators are live streaming. The chat room as you can see is positioned to the side of each live video. When enabled SuperChat allows viewers to make payments directly through the chat window.

How to enable Super Chat?

Click the channel but and a window will show up with prompted your eligability.

1. Must have over 1,000 subscribers2. Must be located in a supported country

Super chat will show as one of your enabled features inside your YouTube channel like this below.
