How to Run in a Race
Warming Up
• Get your muscles warmed up for the race by walking or jogging for a few minutes.
• Next do some light streching.• This will get your muscles prepared to work so you can run fast!
The Starting Line• All the runners will be called to the starting line.• Line up in a straight line but leave some space
between you and the other runners.• Get yourself in a ready position by stepping one foot
in front of the other and placing your hands on the ground.
• Listen for the words: “On your mark, Get set, GO!”
• After you hear “go” push off the ground and run as fast as you can!
• These words help make the race fair because everyone starts together.
GO!
During the Race• It is still important to leave enough room
between you and the other runners.• If you get to close you or another runner could
trip and fall. Ouch! • Keep moving those
legs. You are almost at the finish line!
• Run across the finish line!• Great job that race took a lot of hard work and you finished it! • It is nice to shake hands and say good job to
the other runners.• Get a drink of water and catch your breath.
