How to evaluate the steroid biosynthesis and metabolism in human/clinical settings? Professor Hironobu Sasano Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan Genome Analysis Center at HMGU GAC seminar room 332a, bld. 34, 1:30 p.m. Sept. 29th , 2016 Host: Prof. Dr. J. Adamski, [email protected], 089-3187-3155 Institute of Experimental Genetics, Genome Analysis Center, Helmholtz Zentrum München, Ingolstaeder Landstrasse 1, 85764 Neuherberg It is pivotal to recognize the following aspects when we will analyze the steroid metabolism and synthesis in clinical specimens: 1. What methodologies we could apply to which types of specimens, such as serum, plasma, effusions, urine, cells and tissues? 2. What preparations we should perform prior to analyzing the status of steroid production and/or metabolism? 3. How reliable or accurate or reproducible those methodologies in understanding the synthesis and/or metabo- lism of steroid hormones in human? 4. Pitfalls and limitations of these methodologies when interpreting the results. I will cover these four aspects above and particularly emphasize how we can determine which cells of the tissues produce or metabolize what types of steroid hormones in resected biopsy or surgical specimens through in situ analysis of steroidogenic enzymes.
