Clean RegularlyBy giving your jewellery the TLC it deserves, your stunning pieces will stay gleaming and sparkling

for every occasion.

Pearls & TanzanitesTo maintain cleanliness, it?s vital that you wipe clean your pearls and tanzanites after each usage. Again, soft is the key word to remember. Use a soft cloth to wipe them down and place back into storage. The composition of these gems means that one has to be careful in their care and cleaning.

Be sure to clean your diamond rings regularly. At Gerard McCabe, we suggest that you use a solution of warm water, detergent and a litt le cloudy ammonia. Next, leave your diamond to soak and then brush gently with a soft toothbrush to be sure you?re rid of any remaining dirt. Lastly, rinse with clean water.

Cleaning solutions and cloths are available to purchase for home cleaning but the above solution works just as well. To show your diamond some real love, aim to do this once or twice a week. Always leave the plug in the sink in case you drop a small item.

Handle With CareApply your perfumes, colognes, skin care products and hairspray before you put on your jewellery. Remove your jewellery and rings

when doing activities like dish-washing and gardening.

Handle your diamond as rarely as possible. Diamonds attract oil and grease, and over time the oils on your skin will alter the appearance of your diamond. Also, be aware that chemicals in many beauty products such as hairspray and body lotion can mask the brilliance of your precious diamond.

Think about where you are going to wear your diamond jewellery. Although diamonds are the hardest natural substance, they can still chip. For example, you should never wear your diamond if you?re doing rough work or at the gym.

Pearls & TanzanitesThese pieces should be the last and final decorative touch before you walk out the door. Apply your makeup, perfume and sunscreen before you put on your jewellery. This way you are not exposing them to accumulative dirt.

Put Them AwayWhen you're home or busy being active, it 's always best to put

your jewellery away to avoid damaging or dirtying your jewellery. Or worse ? losing your jewellery!

Even when you?re not wearing your diamonds, they still need taking care of. House your diamonds in a fabric-lined jewellery box, or one with dividers. Another tip is to avoid mixing diamond jewellery as diamonds can scratch each other, as well as your other jewellery and gemstones.

Pearls & TanzanitesStorage is key when it comes to looking after your pearls and tanzanites. Keeping them separate and segmented from your other jewellery is the safest option. Store them in a soft cloth bag or a leather pouch to ensure that you do not scrape, scratch or damage them. The surface of your pearls particularly are incredibly delicate, so you need to be mindful of this.

Expert Tip

Pop your jewellery in a crystal bowl when you are busy in the house or when you come home from work. The kitchen is a great location for this, though not right next

to the sink! This way, they won?t be damaged as you complete tasks around the house, and you always know where they are. You can even easily see through the

crystal to check that they are there.

Be Wary Whilst Cleaning Some Pieces

Be wary when using ultrasonic cleaners at home with some gemstones as they are fragile, and will be damaged by the vibrations of the cleaner. Some jewellery styles are unsuitable for ultrasonic cleaning, such as pearls and our Kaleidoscope collection. Please note that emeralds, tanzanites and pearls are soft gemstones and should only be cleaned by a professional.
