AHA ASSUMPTION OF RISK, RELEASE AND INDEMNIFICATION This document waives very important legal rights. Read it carefully before signing. In consideration for AHA permitting me to participate in this Competition, and by signing the entry blank, I agree as follows: I AGREE that I choose to participate voluntarily in this Competition, as a rider, driver, handler, lessee, owner, agent, coach, trainer, junior exhibitor, or as a parent or guardian of a junior exhibitor. I AM FULLY AWARE AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT HORSE SPORTS AND PARTICIPATION IN THIS COMPETITION INVOLVE SERIOUS RISK OF HARM INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, RISKS OF ACCIDENT, SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, INCLUDING DEATH, BROKEN BONES, HEAD INJURIES, TRAUMA, PAIN, AND SUFFERING, AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. I ASSUME ALL RISKS OF HARM TO ME, MY HORSE OR MY PROPERTY. I AGREE for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns to release AHA, the Competition, the facilities leased by the Competition and the owner(s) of the facilities, and all of their respective officers, officials, directors, employees, agents, personnel, volunteers, affiliated organizations and insurers (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all claims for damage, loss, or injury to myself, other persons, horses or other property belonging to me to the fullest extent permitted by law that arises out of or relates in any way to the Competition and my participation in the Competition INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, DAMAGES, LOSS, OR INJURY RESULTING FROM ANY ACTS, FAILURE TO ACT, NEGLIGENCE OR NEGLECT OF OTHER ENTRANTS, THE RELEASED PARTIES, THEIR CONTRACTORS OR INVITEES, as well as for theft, vandalism, fire, other casualty damage, or damage arising out of any defects in the premises. I AGREE to indemnify and hold harmless (that is pay all losses, damages, attorneys fees and costs of) the Released Parties from and against any and all claims, demands, penalties, actions, losses, costs, damages, injuries, liabilities and obligations (including attorneys fees) of whatsoever kind and nature, which may be asserted against or incurred by any of them as a result of (1) my participation in the Competition or (2) any act, failure to act, or neglect (a) by me, my agents, employees, riders, handlers, trainers, coaches, drivers, contractors or invitees, or (b) by any animal owned or exhibited by me or in my custody or control. I AGREE and represent that I am qualified and eligible to enter and/or participate in the Competition, and every horse I am entering is qualified and eligible as entered. I AGREE to accept AS FINAL any decision of AHA, the Show Commission or Show Officials concerning my qualification or the qualification of my horse to enter the Competition or any results of the Competition, except to the extent that the Rules of AHA, the Competition, CEF or USA Equestrian permit a protest or hearing of such decisions. Should a hearing be requested, I agree to accept AS FINAL the decision of the particular hearing body. I agree to release, hold harmless and not to sue AHA, the Competition Sponsor, their officers, directors, employees, volunteers or members concerning any decision of AHA, the Competition, its Show Commission, Show Officials or any hearing body that relates to my qualifications or my horse(s)’ qualifications to enter the Competition or any results of the Competition. I AGREE that AHA has the sole right to control, sell, supervise or give away (or assign to others the right to do so) the exclusive rights to broadcast, televise, reproduce, transmit and disseminate all or part of this event, and I agree that AHA may use or assign, in any way AHA sees fit, photographs, films, videos, audios, cablecasts, or other likenesses of me and my horse taken during the course of the Competition for the promotion, coverage or benefit of the Competition or AHA. Veterinarian, Farrier and First Aid: A Veterinarian will NOT be on
the grounds, but Katy Equine is available on call. The phone numbers
will be posted at the show office. In the event of an acute and serious
injury to or illness of a horse on competition grounds when the owner or
trainer of the horse or agent of the owner is not present, after reasonable
effort to contact that individual has been made, competition management,
in consultation with a licensed equine veterinarian, may authorize the
provision of emergency veterinary treatment of the horse. If competition
management so authorizes treatment under the provisions of this rule,
competition management and veterinarian are not liable for any resulting
costs, damages, losses, claims or actions arising directly or indirectly
from the treatment of the horse. A farrier will be available for exhibitors.
We ask that you use the services of the show farrier. All other farriers
must check in with the show manager prior to seeing any customers.
They must get permission to work on the show grounds and pay a vendor
fee. First aid treatment will be available at all times during the
performance and an ambulance will be on call.
Judges: With the exception of Dressage and Sport Horse, all classes will
be judged by two judges as a concurrent show, with one judge qualifying
an exhibitor for Region 9 and the other judge qualifying the exhibitor for
Region 14 (see class schedule for assignments). This show will be judged
according to the single judge system. (When adjudicated concurrently in
a single arena utilizing two judges with placings for each judge, it is still
judged according to the single judge system.) In the event of illness or
failure of a judge or any other official to attend this show or to perform
his duties, the show committee reserves the right to substitute an official
for the one officially designated in the prize list, according to USEF rules.

CLASS INFORMATION
Leadline, Walk-Trot, Showmanship Walk-Trot Exhibitors: USEF and
AHA Membership is not required. Parents/Guardians signing for
Leadline/Walk-Trot/Showmanship Walk-Trot are exempt from
USEF/AHA Membership requirements. HOWEVER, USEF membership
is required for exhibitors competing in Short Stirrup Reining 10 & Under.
Headers in Walk-Trot and leaders in Leadline classes must be at least 14
years of age.
Junior Exhibitor: Junior exhibitors shall not have reached their 19th
birthday prior to 12/1/19. For Horse Show purposes, the age of the junior
exhibitor on December 1 of the show year shall be maintained throughout
the entire year.
Amateur: USEF membership is required for adult amateurs and to ride
in amateur classes. Every rider having reached his 19th birthday prior to
12/1/19 must have in his/her possession an amateur card issued yearly by
USEF or make application for such card at least one hour prior to riding
in Amateur To Ride classes. Applications may be secured from the horse
show office.
Amateur Owner Rule Added to AHA code of Ethics: It is unethical
to transfer or assist or facilitate in the transfer of a horse with the intent to
circumvent the purpose of the rules regarding ownership of horses shown
in the amateur and/or junior owner classes. In determining whether the
transfer was unethical, the EPRB may consider, among others, the
following: a. Horse ending up back in the previous owner’s name within
a year of the original transfer. b. Horse being transferred at less than fair
market value (owner to provide proof of the sales amount). c. The fact
that prize money went to a person other than the owner or family member.
d. The fact that the owner or family member did not pay the expenses
relating to the upkeep and showing of the horse.
Owner classes: To show in an Owner class, every competitor must be a
junior/adult amateur exhibitor and the owner or member of the owner’s
family. Combined ownership is not permitted in JOTR/AOTR/AAOTR
classes unless all owners are member of the same family. For competition
purposes the term family includes the following: spouse, parent, step-
parent, child, step-child, brother, sister, half brother and sister, aunt, uncle,
niece, nephew, step-brother and sister, grandparents and grandchildren,
and in-laws of the same relation as stated above. Horses entered in
amateur owner and junior owner classes must be registered in the name
of the competitor or a member of the competitor’s family, as defined by
GR123. Horses registered in a farm/ranch/syndicate/partner-
ship/corporation name may be shown in Amateur Owner classes provided
the family is the sole owner of the farm or entity (GR123). The sale of a
horse does not eliminate this requirement. (Contracts of Sale or Bill of
Sale will not be accepted. NOTE: Leased horses not eligible unless the
lessee and lessor are members of the immediate family.
Leveling Classes: This show offers SELECT amateur classes. Select
level guidelines can be found at www.arabianhorses.org. LEVELING
PROGRAM - A rider may now choose to ride any and all levels at or
above their given level unless so stated in a show’s prizelist, but cannot
ride below their designated level. They must have separate
qualifications for each class ridden. This applies to all shows unless
restricted by show management. USEF AR110.2.g. A new leveling
view can be found at the bottom of the exhibitor’s leveling record
which indicates which level they should be competing at.
Age Split classes: The age of the exhibitor on December 1, 2019 will be
used to determine the correct age split classes for the exhibitor in the 2020
show year.
Maiden, Novice or Limit: Has not won one (“Maiden”), three
(“Novice”), or six (“Limit”) first place ribbons at a Regular Competition
of The Federation in the particular division in which it is shown. Ribbons
won within one section do not count if the animal competes in a different
section (e.g. Arabian Park to Arabian Western Pleasure). Ribbons won in
one-horse classes do not count; the status is as of closing of entries for this
show.
Ladies & Gentlemen: An Adult Amateur or Junior exhibitor may show
in any Ladies & Gentlemen to Ride class.
Performance championships: To be eligible to show in a particular
performance championship, a horse must have been entered, shown and
judged in a designated qualifying class at this show. See qualifier in
parenthesis after class name on schedule and on recap page. All entries
placing first, second, or third in a qualifying class must show back in the
corresponding championship or forfeit the prize money awarded in the
qualifying class (exception: JTR or ATR qualifying classes for open
championships). If an exhibitor has qualified two or more horses for the
same championship class, an exception will be made if the show office is
notified in advance.
Halter championships: To be eligible to show in the breeding/in-hand
halter championship, a horse must have placed first or second in the
designated qualifying class. Sport Horse In-Hand Champions and Reserve
Champions must be at least two years old.
Back Numbers: The assigned number of each entry shall be prominently
displayed by the rider, driver or handler when the entry is exhibited.
Calls for classes/check-in with Paddock Master/Tack changes: As a
courtesy to our exhibitors, the public address system will be used to make
barn calls if possible. However, exhibitors are responsible for seeing that
entries reach the gate on time and should not rely solely on the P.A.
system. Classes will be called promptly. Check-in is required in the
paddock area with the paddock master. Time for tack changes will be at a
minimum; the paddock master should be notified of any special
requirements and he/she may delay opening the gate for the next class for
very brief accommodations.
Promptly Enter Gate When Opened (AR107.1 Effective 12/1/17):
When horses are competing collectively, if a first horse does not enter the
in-gate ready to participate within one minute from when the class is
called into the ring, a warning is issued.
a. Exhibitors will then have one additional minute to start the steady
stream of horses into the in-gate.
b. If no horses have entered the gate at the conclusion of the additional
one minute, the gate shall be closed and
the class is deemed concluded.
c. Once the first horse has entered the in-gate, a steady stream of horses
must be maintained.
d. Should the steady stream be broken after the two minutes have elapsed,
the gate shall be closed and judging will commence. e. A steady stream is defined as a constant flow of horses moving forward
through the in-gate with a reasonable
and safe distance between them (i.e. two to four horse or horse and buggy
lengths in between).
f. Show Management in conjunction with the Steward may deviate from
this procedure as circumstances warrant.
Admission to the Arena: No person will be permitted to enter the arena
except participants in the class, judges and their assistants, show
photographer and assistant, show officials and staff. Attendants will not
be permitted in the arena until summoned by the judge.

COMP 815. CLASS PROCEDURE FOR COMPARATIVE JUDGING
IN BREEDING IN-HAND (Res. 20-13 - See AHA, Ch 11).
1. Class Procedure for AHA Recognized shows other than Regionals
and Nationals (Refer to COMP 607 – DISPENSATION);
Judging begins when the first horse enters the ring. From the moment
the horse enters the ring its movement is being evaluated. The horse
shall enter at a trot, and at the handler’s discretion may either proceed
directly along the rail, or trot a counter-clockwise circle at the in-gate
end of the arena and then proceed along the rail to the far end of the
arena. Upon each horse reaching the designated position at the far end
of the arena they are to remain relaxed. The judge(s) will then ask for
the next horse to enter the ring. When all horses have entered the ring
the horses shall be asked to walk collectively counter-clockwise
and/or clockwise past each (and all) judge(s). They shall walk in a
relaxed manner on a loose lead with the handler at the side of his
horse, whips down. The lead line must maintain a discernible drape
and the handler must not place his hand on the chain or close enough
to in any way restrict the natural head and neck motion. The handler
may not
unnecessarily impede the forward motion of the horse while at the
walk. Following the cessation of the walk all horses shall relax
within the ring and only the horse “on deck” shall be prepared to
show. Each horse shall be led to the judge(s) at the walk and
presented for judging. In order to satisfy a proper presentation to the
judge, horses should stand correctly, bearing weight on all four feet
(not stretched), in a quiet and deliberate manner. Following the
evaluation by the judge(s), horses shall walk away from the judge(s),
and then strike a trot before turning left and proceeding counter-
clockwise down the rail. They shall resume their relaxed position at
the end of the arena.
A. Handlers are expected to keep a reasonable clearance between
horses and judges should modify the alignment of horses to achieve
that clearance. Further judging will not commence until the Call
Judge approves the placement and spacing of all horses,
B. After the last horse is presented, the adjudication process is
complete and horses will not be further compared.
2. That in the event that any comparative judging is used, in a one (1)
judge system, judge shall give oral reasons for their decisions after the
card is handed in. In the event of concurrent shows the two (2) judges
shall alternate classes in giving reasons.
Breeding/ Geldings In-Hand Championships: USEF AR118
Breeding/Geldings In-Hand Championships rule change: 1. Show
Champions and Reserve Champions shall be at least one year of age or
older and are selected as follows. In a Breeding/In-Hand section of the
Arabian Division, the Junior, Senior or Show (Grand) Championship will
be awarded to one of the horses which has placed first
in a qualifying class. Qualifying classes for championships must be
designated in the prize list. After the Championship
has been awarded, the horse which has placed second in the qualifying
class to the horse awarded the Championship shall compete with the
remaining first place winners for the Reserve Championship. If a Show
(Grand) Championship class is held, the Senior Champion and the Reserve
Senior Champion as well as the Junior Champion and the Reserve Junior
Champion will be eligible to compete. 2. Walking horses quietly on the
rail is optional at the judge’s discretion. BOD 1/20/18 Effective 4/1/18.

endangers that exhibitor or any other exhibitor or leader must be penalized
and will be considered as cause for elimination. Safety is of the utmost
importance in tack and attire: a) saddle must fit rider; b) rider’s feet must
be engaged in the stirrups/irons; c) saddles may be equipped with hooded
stirrups or breakaway irons; d) leading rein may be attached to a cavesson

USDF Statement on Animal Welfare The United States Dressage Federation, Inc. (USDF), a federation of over 120 independent organizations throughout the United States with a membership of 30,000 members, supports the concept of ethical treatment of animals. Dressage is a classical method of training horses, based upon the horse’s natural responses, as carried out in a gradual, planned program during which the horse’s athletic abilities are improved in a systematic manner. As a result, the horse becomes capable, comfortable, and responsive in partnership with the rider without the use of force. Dressage competition at various levels of achievement is the ultimate test of the training program to determine whether the desired harmony between horse and rider has been achieved. The rules pertaining to dressage competition prohibit the use of artificial appliances, training aids, and drugs, which would force the horse to submit. Instead, the emphasis is upon training and a cooperative partnership with the rider. Major competitions are carefully monitored to assure that there is no unnecessary force or harshness displayed. Unlike other horse sports in which horses enter training at a relatively immature state, dressage training is usually not seriously begun until the horse is three or four. The top levels of achievement require five or more years of progressive training and it is not unusual to see horses in international competition in their late teens. This, in itself, places a premium on good care and soundness throughout the horse’s life. While supporting the concept of animal welfare in its broadest form, the United States Dressage Federation, Inc., also recognizes that it is unrealistic to ascribe human emotions and responses to the horse which in its wild state is a creature of flight, living a hard and precarious existence. Under domestication, the horse is assured of ample food, water, and shelter, as well as protection against infectious diseases and damaging parasites, thus leading a longer and healthier life with a high rate of survival. As an educational organization, USDF has numerous programs, which teach people how to pursue the accepted, humane training methods. A program of certifying instructors also emphasizes protecting the
horse’s welfare in pursuit of dressage training.

Membership Requirements for USEF-licensed/USDF-recognized Competitions: Owners and riders, including foreign riders and owners who are not residents of the US, wishing to participate in a USEF-licensed/USDF-recognized competition as a rider or owner/lessee, must have either a USDF Group Membership (GM), Participating Membership (PM), or have a USDF Non-Member (NM) identification number and pay the USDF NonMember (NM) fee. (Note: USDF Business Members can own horses but cannot compete as riders with their USDF Business Membership.) Horses competing at USEF-licensed/USDF-recognized competitions must have either a USDF Horse Identification (HID) number or a USDF Lifetime Horse Registration (LHR). Proper credentials or verification certificates must be presented to the competition secretary. Riders and owners wishing to participate in a USEF-licensed/USDF-recognized competition, and not able to present the competition secretary with verification of a USDF membership or NM identification, and USDF LHR or USDF HID, must complete a USDF Competition Affidavit Form and pay the $5 affidavit filing fee. A copy of a completed affidavit form from another competition may also be used for verification purposes for up to 60 days. (Exception: Affidavits cannot be used at Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional Dressage Championships.) Exceptions: • Horses competing only in Individual Breed Classes (IBCs) at DSHB competitions, sires and dams of horses in DSHB group classes, where those sires or dams are not actually competing in the same competition, horses competing only in breed restricted dressage or DSHB classes at Regular Competitions (e.g. all Arabian, all Friesian, or all Morgan classes), or in USDF Introductory Level tests, pas de deux or quadrille, are exempt from this requirement. Also exempt are horses ridden in leadline, exhibitions, games and races, classes for 4-H members, walk-trot, academy, and opportunity classes. • Riders and owners/lessees competing only in classes which are exempt from the USDF HID requirements are also exempt from the USDF NM identification number and NM fee requirements. Also exempt are handlers of horses competing in DSHB In-Hand or Group classes.
Memberships Defined Participating Membership (PM): A membership issued to an individual directly by USDF. The membership year is December 1 through November 30. PMs are available for 1-year ($90), 5-years ($360), or life ($1,800). A USDF Youth Participating Membership (YPM) is available for individuals who have not reached their 21st birthday by December 1 of the current membership year ($72). A PM allows the member to compete at USEF-licensed/USDF-recognized competitions and to participate as a rider and/or owner/lessee for all Adequan®/USDF Year-End Awards and the Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional Dressage Championship program. Group Membership (GM): A membership issued to an individual by USDF when the member name and dues are submitted to USDF through an affiliate Group Member Organization (GMO). The GM year begins December 1 and ends November 30. A GM allows the member to compete at USEFlicensed/USDF-recognized competitions and participate in the USDF Rider Awards program. Business Membership (BM): A membership that runs December 1 through November 30 and is issued to a business or organization directly by USDF. The USDF BM ($240) offers a wider variety of advertising benefits. BMs satisfy requirements of horse ownership only. Non-Member (NM) Identification Number: For each USDF NM owner/lessee and USDF NM rider there will be a USDF NM fee of $35 per competition that must be collected by the show secretary and submitted to USDF, along with the USDF Report of Fees document and the $5 affidavit fee and Competition Affidavit Form if the person cannot provide a copy of their USDF NM card. Owners/lessees or riders exempt from the NM number requirements are also exempt from paying the USDF NM fee. If there are multiple owners of a horse and all are NMs, only one of the owners must pay the NM fee. If the horse has at least one owner who is a current USDF PM, GM, or BM there is no NM fee assessed. Competition management will be invoiced for all applicable USDF NM fees not received with the USDF post-competition paperwork, along with a report listing all USDF NMs. Competition management is then required to submit the NM fees within 30 days to the USDF. An individual with a USDF NM identification number is not eligible for any USDF membership benefits. Once a USDF NM number has been assigned, a USDF NM card can be obtained from the USDF website. Horse Identification (HID) Number: A one-time tracking number for horses ($35). Scores earned by a horse with an HID number will be recorded, but will NOT be counted towards Adequan®/USDF Year-End Awards. A horse with an HID number is not eligible to compete in Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional qualifying or championship classes. An HID number can be upgraded to a Lifetime Horse Registration (LHR) for a fee of $80. If a horse has a USDF LHR it does not need an HID number. An HID number is a one-time fee that does not need to be renewed. Lifetime Horse Registration (LHR): A horse with an LHR ($115) is eligible for Adequan®/USDF Year-End Awards, and eligible to compete in Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional qualifying and championship classes, assuming requirements for the owner and rider are met. If a horse has an LHR it does not need an HID number. An LHR does not need to be renewed.
