School Newsletter Term 1 15th April, 2021 ph: 348-7790 www.olv.school.nz [email protected] What’s happening this week Greetings Tomorrow is the end of Term 1. It has as always been a very busy term with a highlight being moving into the new classrooms. These are a wonderful asset to the school and are highly valued and appreciated by those who inhabit them. We have ended up with class- rooms that we desired and certainly make collaborative teaching and learning easier. The start of the year saw all teachers shifting classrooms and the positive way they went about this certainly ensured we had a great start to the year. We are indeed most fortunate to have such a highly professional and willing staff who look to bring the best out of our children. Thank you parents for the support and encourage- ment that you provide to the staff and your children as the partnership we have is of great benefit to your children. We have a school community that we all contribute to that we should be proud of. Our roll has continued to grow and will be 226 at the beginning of next term. The number of New Entrants has meant that we have had to promote some children from the New Entrant Room to Room 5 to manage the Term 2 arrivals. We had planned for this as we had kept the Room 5 numbers low. Our July 1 Roll is expected to be 234 which is up on the 213 last year. This is a positive for the school as this is the date that the Ministry of Education predicts staffing numbers for the next year. This will result in increased staffing for 2022. Thank you to the PFA who have provided four 65 inch televisions for the new classrooms. Thank you again for your support during the term. I hope that you had an enjoyable break with your children. Term 2 begins on Monday, May 3. Best wishes Denis WEEK 11 15 April Cross Country 16 April Last day of Term 1 TERM 2 commences on Monday, May 3rd, 2021 Hours of Mercy 2021

FAITH FACTS

Week 11 : 12-16 April

On Friday 16th April, Rāmere Pāeng whāwhā, we celebrate the life of St. Bernadette Soubirous. Ber-nadette is remembered for her visions of Mary at Lourdes. She is also remembered for the work she did with the sick at the Sisters of Charity hospital. Next term we will explore Patris Corde further and focus on what Pope Francis has to say about St Jo-seph as a creatively courageous father, a working father, a father in the shadows. In the meantime listen to Joseph's Song by Michael Card and ponder..how do you fit into God’s plan.
