Zounds Hearing Helps ClientsHear Birds Sing Again

Chad and Kim Gregory opened their

    Zounds Hearing franchise in February,

offering free hearing evaluations, as well as

retail sales and repair of hearing devices and

    accessories.

We were impressed with the sound

    quality and technology of Zounds

hearing aids, said Kim Gregory. We

had experience through a loved one with

the frustrations hearing aids can present.

We were thrilled to learn there was some

resolution to those through the 57 patents of

    founder Sam Thomasson.

During a free evaluation, the staff

examines the patients ears with an otoscope

to check rst for ear wax accumulation.

If a hearing aid is needed, there are many

options. Rechargeable digital aids come with

a remote control with four presets for better

clarity of sounds of different frequencies in

    different environments.

The Zounds staff includes Jane Manhart,

    a licensed hearing

    instrument specialist.

    Patient care is her

    No. 1 priority, Gregory

    said.

Gregory gets the most satisfaction in her

work when seeing someone smile as they

hear sounds they havent heard recently.

Its pretty emotional when you hear

how people are connecting with friends

and family and are able to engage in group

conversations, she said. We hear a lot of

remarks that people enjoy hearing the birds

    again.

    Customers tell Gregory they appreciate

    the staffs outstanding client care.

We take the time to explain your exam

results fully and educate you on hearing

    health and options, she said.

Zounds never charges for ofce visits,

    adjustments, re-evaluations or routine

    maintenance: No hidden costs, no

    middleman.

Zounds franchises offer a portfolio of

some of the worlds best-performing hearing

aids and wireless devices at affordable prices

to people with mild, moderate or moderate/

    severe hearing loss.

    Kuhn Construction:Five Generations & Growing

Rick Kuhn, CEO of Kuhn Construction

Co. Inc., is the fth generation in the building

business and recently welcomed his godson,

    Douglas Moody, to the team.

    Moody has had experience in

construction in his hometown of Kansas City,

Kan., and most recently in New Mexico. As

his godparents/bosses, Rick and Mary Jane

Kuhn couldnt be happier with this new

member to their growing company. The family aspect of the business also

includes daughter Jodie Allen of Fresh Art

Photography, who designs the look of

    Kuhn Construction from business cards,

letterhead and the very noticeable signs

frequenting area yards letting people know

that Kuhn Construction is working there.

    Kuhn Construction is a full-service

contracting company that has worked around

the St. Louis area for 34-plus

    years. The company was run

    for many years by Ricks

    father, grandfather and great

    grandfather.

    That family aspect extends

    to their clients.

We have watched the children of clients

grow up, and we have helped the homes grow

    with them, Rick Kuhn said.

Kuhn redid a kitchen for a couple when

they rst bought their Webster home, and

20 years later redid that same kitchen, and

now as those clients downsize, Kuhn is

working on their new condo. It is that kind of

relationship that Rick and Mary Jane enjoy in

their business.Kuhn has built new homes, added second

    stories, revamped hundreds of kitchens

and bathrooms, but the company also does

smaller jobs, repairs and maintenance items.

No job is too big or too small, said Mary

    Jane Kuhn.

Kuhn also has worked in restaurants,

ofces and churches. Last September, Rick

returned from his third trip to Africa, where

    he helped complete a chapel

for the Diocese of Lui in

    South Sudan.

    It was amazing to see

    the seven-year long project

    completed, he said.

Reliable Service A Mainstay AtWebster Groves Complete Auto RepairThings are always changing at Webster

Groves Complete Auto Repair, but the shop

continues to provide reliable service, and

customers continue to appreciate the shops

    honest and laid-back family atmosphere.

    With advancements in technology and

vehicle computer capabilities, the auto business

has undergone many changes since Jerry

Ptzinger, now retired, opened his shop in 1982.

Power windows, door locks and cruise

control seem mundane compared to vehicles

having the capability to parallel park themselves

and brake prior to an accident, said owner Scott

    Ptzinger, Jerrys son.

While embracing the new technology, the

Ptzingers still enjoy working on classic and

    antique vehicles.

Remember, though, that we repair and

service all domestic and foreign vehicles, no

matter what their age, Ptzinger said.

One change regular customers may notice

is that the shops mascot, Scotts dog Harley D,

    has been absent.

Seems like Harley D would rather stay at

home napping instead of coming in to work,

his owner said. So, Ofce Manager Jessica

    Vaccaro-Fitzgerald recruited her own Little

Jack to stand in for Harley D in this seasons

    staff photo.

    Customers frequently tell me how

impressed they are with Jessica, Ptzinger said.

She always takes the time to have a brief chat

with the customers and truly takes interest in the

    customers.

Ptzinger considers his staff part of the

family business. I am so fortunate to have

    honest, loyal, hard working employees.

We always try to accommodate our

customers needs by taking the time to explain

and show them visually the problems found with

    their vehicle, he said.

    WG Complete Auto gently reminds

customers that its time to think about the family

cars winter maintenance needs. Mechanics are

ready to check over the vehicle to avoid any

    unforeseen winter mishaps.

Seniors Home Care:Proud To Be Celebrating Its 27th Year!

More than 27 years ago, Kit Whittington

was the primary caregiver for her grand-

mother, who had been diagnosed with cancer.

Whittington was the only family member

available to assist with her care. Because she

also worked full time, it grew increasingly

difficult both physically and emotionally. So

she hired an independent caregiver, but soon

discovered that her grandmother was not

receiving the level of care she deserved.

At the end of the day, I checked on her

and to my disbelief, I discovered the care-

giver had simply not shown up, Whittington

said. My grandmother had missed her doc-

tors appointment and much-needed meals. It

was a debilitating moment; we were both in

    tears.

    In 1987, Whittington start-

ed SHC to provide a family

    support system for older

    adults. SHC employs an

    around-the-clock nursing staff

to assist clients and families in

    achieving their unique needs.

    Nurses and caregivers are screened,

bonded and insured employees (not contrac-

tors). All employees undergo drug testing, a

thorough background search and complete a

training program that includes basic nursing

    skills, and physical therapy applications.

SHC offers flexibility of care ranging from a

    30-minute QuickVisit to 24/7 care.

SHC has received an A+ rating, plus the

Torch Award, from the Better Business

    Bureau.

My own feelings of helplessness and a

desire for a higher quality of life for my

grandmother drove me to find a better way to

care for her. The motivation behind SHC is

    my own personal experience

and Ive built the company on

a solid foundation of 27 years

    of consistent, compassionate

    caring for all clients. Kit

Rib City Pits Its Slow-CookingBarbecue Against Competition

Rib City St. Louis BBQ servesbarbecued baby back and St. Louis-styleribs, 18-ounce pork steaks, chicken, turkeyand beef, along with salads, sides andhomemade desserts.

We felt that St. Louis didnt have

many good BBQ restaurants, said GreggMatthes, who has operated Rib Cityfranchises with Gary Frossard and BillShocklee since 2008. We never heardanyone talk about barbecue. We knewwe had a good product and a full menu tocover everyones tastes.

Rib City relocated from its original DesPeres location to the current space in 2014.

There has been a surge in BBQrestaurants over the past couple of years,Matthes said. Many of them are verygood, but well stand up to any of them.Plus, our restaurant ismore of a family-stylerestaurant atmosphere.

Rib City has sit-downtables, a full bar andtelevisions.

Customers may besurprised to know how

long ribs must be cooked. It takes several hours every day of

slow cooking to properly make ribs andother pork dishes, Matthes said. Its notlike home, where men time their grilling byhow many beers theyve had.

All meats are cooked in wood-burning smokers, basted with Rib Cityssignature barbecue sauce and smoked overhardwoods, including red oak.

Matthes gets a laugh when he meets acustomer who has never had or heard of apork steak, a Midwest specialty.

If they try one, they love it, he added.Customers tell the staff they love the

baked beans and cole slaw, which aremade in-house daily. If they have one ofthe homemade coconut cream, key lime orpecan pie desserts, you can see their faces

    light up, Matthessaid.
