Anzac Day ‘… At the going down of the sun and in the morning.
We will remember them.’
A large number of community members, students and staff from Pyramid Hill College and St. Patrick’s Primary School, attended the ANZAC Day service at the Memorial Hall. Wreaths were laid at the foot of the Memorial Wall by Cr. Cheryl McKinnon, Bill Quinn, Brett Johnson, Arthur Young and school captains from Pyramid Hill College and St. Patrick’s Primary School. The sound of a lone bugler playing the Last Post is one of the most distinctive sounds in the world. How fortunate it was to have Julie Boyer (St. Pat’s teacher), playing her trumpet at the service. Brigadier Steven Lee, spoke about the Anzac tradition and also his involvement in the peace keeping mission to Rwanda. After the service many people stayed to enjoy lunch together and take advantage of the opportunity to speak with Steven Lee. A service was also held at Mologa, look out for a full report next week. Thank you to everyone who attended the services to remember all those who served and died in war and the sacrifices made for our country.
Pyramid Hill College & St. Pat’s students, trumpeter, Julie Boyer, Brigadier Steven Lee, flag-bearer Jenny Prior, CFA members form a guard of honour.

This week’s games had Green taking on Purple at 7pm. Both teams were up for the
contest and scores couldn't be separated at quarter time. In the second quarter it was
again close and Purple went into the long break with a 2 goal lead. After half time
the Green team were up and about and an upset looked possible. Purple sensing this, upped their intensity and cracks started
appearing in Green’s game. By three quarter time, Purple's shooters showed
their superior accuracy and opened up a 6 goal lead. Green to their credit, threw
everything at Purple in the last quarter but couldn't close the margin .
Final score Purple 38 - Green 32 In the 8pm game Red were keen to
continue their unbeaten run up against Blue. The Red team quickly showed why
they are on top of the ladder with some slick ball movement and accuracy near the
goal ring. Blue tried making some changes but couldn't make inroads into Red's lead, Red running out comfortable winners 35 -

Pyramid Bowling Club
It was lovely to have some good news and read in the press last week about Brian and Bev’s 60th Wedding Anniversary. Wow! What an achievement. The Pyramid Hill Bowling Club extends their very best and hearty congratulations on 60 years of wedded bliss to you both. Also exciting to see local business owners, Mick and Dee celebrating 40 years of marriage. Congratulations to you both as well. We have the membership form waiting when you are ready Dee! State Finals The past week saw Bendigo East
Bowling Club host the State finals.
Keen to see top shelf bowling, the
apprentice scribe and husband set off
on Sunday to watch Northern District
duo, Ian Maine (Wakool) and Jean
Fairchild (Barham Services) play in
the mixed pairs. A great game and gee
whiz, the second part of the game they
hit their straps and came close to
catching up and winning. Ian and Jean
played a pair from the Wunghnu
Bowling Club in the Goulburn Valley.
These two played consistently well
and when Ian and Jean were holding a
few, the bloke from Wunghnu would
do a spot on drive and either dead end
the end or move the kitty to where
they had bowls. Ian and Jean certainly
flew the flag for the Northern District
and did us proud. Congratulations to
you both for getting to State level.
After a spot of lunch in the big smoke,
the apprentice scribe and other half
headed back to the bowling green and
watched the State Singles Champion-
ships. Plonking ourselves down on a
prime seat, I asked the lovely lady next
to me who she was going for. She
replied Barrie and that she was his
wife.
Well Barrie turned out to be Barrie Lester, a champion 35 year old bowler who has played as lead in the Com-monwealth Games. Barrie had already won the Men’s champion of champion singles in the morning. He needed to win the game we were watching to be ranked number 1 bowler in Australia. Well he did win and it was such a fine display of bowling. The Northern District was also represented in the Men’s and Ladies Pairs. These games were played on Monday. Richie Murray (Kerang) and Stephen Arthur (Barham Services) played in the Men’s Pairs and lost their first game. Jean Fairchild and Jenny Laursen – both from Barham Services, won their first game but lost their second. Again, congratulations from the Pyramid Hill Bowling Club for reaching state level. St Patrick’s students learn to bowl On Monday the students and staff from St Patricks School commenced their six week intensive tuition of learning to bowl. Lesson 1 got off to a flying start! A huge thank you to President Marie for making the students introduction to lawn bowls so fun and informative. Thank you Marie for devising all the activities and guiding the students on the do’s and don’ts of lawn bowls and the all-important etiquette on the green. A huge thank you also to Helen, Rose, Lorraine D, Jenny, Beth and Robyn who so enthusiastically helped the children and gave excellent tips on how to bowl. Thank you so much ladies for giving up your time to help the students. Thank you to David and Allan for having the greens prepared. These lessons go for another 5 weeks and thank you to those members who will be able to help out. Great to hear such positive feedback from session 1 and the student’s anticipation for lesson 2. Veterans’ Day At the time of going
to print, Nola Newstead will be
attending Veterans Day at Cohuna Golf
and will be receiving her Veteran 80
badge. Congratulations Nola. A full
report will be in next week’s press.
Thank You
To all our friends, we thank you most sincerely for the many messages of congratulations, cards,
flowers and ‘the amazing cake’, on the occasion of our 60th anniversary.

Mentor – to provide an additional positive role model for young people Assist – to assist and extend positive life experiences Target – to specifically target life and educational goals Engage – to engage young people more fully in school and community Skills – to identify and enhance skills and strengths of young people For young people, having a committed, significant other, more experienced person in their life can have a positive effect; improving self-esteem, confi-dence to try new things, motivation and wellbeing. We can all think of someone, other than a parent or a teacher who has had a strong influence in our lives, presenting a different perspective, opening our minds to opportunities we would never have explored otherwise, sharing our success-es, being proud of our achievements or supporting us through a difficult time. In a changing world, schools and parents can’t do it alone! Young people have a variety of talents and challenges which need to be nourished and supported in order to reach their full potential. Pyramid Hill College, in partnership with the Loddon Shire and the North Central LLEN is launching a MATES mentoring program with an Information Night at the College on
MATES will provide the opportunity
for all young people in Year 9 to met regularly with an older, more experienced adult who is committed to supporting them through the final years of school and helping them develop their strengths, skills and set goals for the future. Members of the community who volunteer to be mentors are asked to attend a brief training session outlining the role of a mentor, will be assisted to acquire a Working with Children Check and will be carefully matched with a suitable young person. Parents are asked to consent to the match and mentors and young people are supported by the School and the Program Coordinator during the course of the match which will continue for at least one year. Mentors are not a replacement for a parent, nor are they a counsellor or teacher. They are a sounding board and confidant who genuinely cares about the young person and wants to help them reach their potential. Mentoring is a wonderful way to help others, connect with young people and learn new skills, become part of a caring network of people and feel a sense of accomplishment. All interested volunteers are welcome
to attend the information session and
meet with students and parents to
learn more about the MATES
program. A delicious dinner and
student performances will be
presented at the Information Session
on Wednesday 10th May at 6pm.

Football Club Pyramid Hill vs B/L Serpentine
Our round 4 clash with B/L Serpen-tine proved to be a humid affair after Mitchell Park received a soaking from the heavens above on Friday, the ground, however, withstood the downpour and was in pretty good condition for the 3 games. Clearly the conditions did not hinder the play for our Under 18's who took on the challenge of a previously undefeated Serp team and came away with another convincing win. The Reserves bounced back from last weeks lose but unfortunately the Seniors were unable to bring home the 4 points. Under 18s The young pups were again on fire in their clash against the Bears and right from the outset showed they can play a great brand of footy when they are switched on. The margin was 29 points at the first break and the boys were well and truly up and about. The second term was an even contest with Serpentine matching the boys pressure and making the most of any turnovers but a 10 goal to 0 second half was the catalyst for our fourth convincing victory on the trot. James Vlaeminck back in the side again showed his class kicking 6 goals whilst Jimmy Ryan’s new pair of boots worked wonders as he booted 4. Seniors Six goals to one in favour of the Bears wasn’t the start we were after in the first quarter as we were outworked and outclassed in the first thirty minutes of play. After a quarter time rocket the boys showed some great character and fight and fought back well to reduce the margin back to 3 goals at the main break. Gavin James had plenty of the ball through the midfield and across half-back in a best on ground perfor-mance and with some great link up play from the back half to half forward the margin was pegged back to a soli-tary goal early in the final term. How-ever, the Bears held their nerve and unfortunately the boys couldn’t bridge the gap they conceded in the first term going down by 17 points. Plenty of improvement required after the Bye in a must win clash against Mitiamo. Final Scores: Pyramid Hill 9.8.62 lost to B/L Serpentine 11.13.79. Goals: S. Gunther 2, G. James 2, J. McGrath 1, S. Pyramid Hill
Netball Club Round 4 v Bears Lagoon
Serpentine 22/4/17
A GRADE
Another great win by Pyramid Hill A Grade this week. It took a bit to settle in the first quarter then the girls got it all together and kept the ball rolling. Great team play by everyone, and lots of intercepts all over the court, saw Pyramid run out big winners again. Pyramid Hill 68 d. Bears Lagoon Serpentine 24 Best – Emily Prout
B GRADE
Another strong team effort for B Grade right from the start. Nice ball work down the court and accurate goaling allowed the girls to take the lead and gradually increase it at each break. The defensive pressure down the court created multiple turnovers. A great second win by the girls. Pyramid Hill 52 d. Bears Lagoon Serpentine 26 Best – Casey Woodbine
C GRADE
Coming off a big win last week, the girls were keen to capitalise getting off to a great start. Brilliant defence from Tess and Georgia allowed Pyramid to sneak away to a two goal lead in the first. A combination of excellent defence, and momentum down the court kept our goalers busy and allowed the girls to hold a narrow lead. A strong last quarter made it 2 wins in a row, getting up by 9 goals. Pyramid Hill 45 d. Bears Lagoon Serpentine 36 Best – Georgia Holland
C RESERVE
Another change in line up this week for the Pyramid girls, who were a bit slow to get going and struggled to find the goal ring in the first quarter. Things really picked up in the second and third quarter. The girls started to fight harder for the ball with Belinda doing a great job in goals. Pyramid lost a bit of momentum going into the last quarter, but overall not a bad effort. Bears Lagoon Serpentine 61 d. Pyramid Hill 31 Best – Ash Rerdon
17 & UNDER
Another intense but great win was achieved by the girls this week as both teams were fighting equally hard for the ball. Our defenders got a lot of rebounds whilst our attackers worked the ball down the court to deliver to our very accurate shooters. The girls were up by 21 in the second half and remained strong until the end. Another great win indeed! Well done girls. Pyramid Hill 38 d. Bears Lagoon Serpentine 26 Best – Tanisha Golding
15 & UNDER The girls came back from a great win last week, to take yet another convincing win at home against BL Serpentine. By the end of half time they had a huge lead. Serpentine came back fighting and worked hard to get to 16 goals. But with great intercepts and communication the Pyramid girls were just too strong. Pyramid Hill 77 d. Bears Lagoon Serpentine 16 Best – Rochelle Esperon

Minis Rain had fallen and now netball
was calling. On a morning fine, we
played Serpentine.
To each other, the girls passed
well, around the court, up to each
bell.
Every one of them contributed well
to the game, best described as
terrific, all of them, the same.
Shooting was sharp, defence so
strong, making us proud, the team
was a song. Erin Farrar was best on
court, next week a bye, no Saturday
sport.
