How did the Witch and the Dwarf escape capture? 3. What did the Deep Magic demand? 4. What was Aslan’s response to the Witch’s demand? Discussion point: Why do you think Aslan said there was no need to talk about what was past?
Reading Reading activity Based on the ending of chapter 13, I would like for you to now become the predictor**. Talk to an adult about the following question:
1. The Witch states, “How do I know this promise will be kept?” What do you think was Aslan’s promise? Why do you think this? Challenge: Complete this online quiz to see how much you remember about chapter 13: https://www.sparknotes.com/lit/lion/section9/?quickquiz_id=3329 Predictor** a person or thing that predicts that something will happen in the future or will be a consequence of something.
Reading SPAG Activity: Log in to purple mash to practice this week’s spellings. www.purplemash.com/#app/diyjs/y5_Summer2_Week4_Day2 www.purplemash.com/#app/diyjs/y3_Summer2_Week3_Week (Mrs Taverner’s group)
Reading Wider World Activity: www.bbc.co.uk/newsround Catch up on the weekly news. Ask questions about what you have learnt.
Writing: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – Chapter 13 I hope you have enjoyed reading chapter 13: Deep Magic from the Dawn of Time. “… and there they saw Aslan and Edmund walking together in the dewy grass… there is no need to tell you (and no-one ever heard what Aslan was saying, but it was a conversation which Edmund never forgot” Discussion point: What do you think Aslan and Edmund talked about? Can you act out this conversation with a family member? Today, I would like for you to draw or paint Aslan and Edmund as they walked together early in the morning.
Writing: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – Chapter 13 Create your own similarities and differences table comparing the White Witch and Aslan. Can you use quotes from the book to support your ideas?
Writing: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – Chapter 13
Planning stage: On Friday, you will be writing a newspaper report about Aslan and the White Queen meeting to arrange a truce. Today, use the planning sheet provided to plan your newspaper report. You will need to include the 5 W’s in your report. WHO? WHAT? WHERE? WHEN? WHY? Remember, Aslan and the White Queen have not met for a very long time. This is big news! You will need a headline that stands out as well as interviews with key witnesses.
Writing: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – Chapter 13 Drafting stage: Draft your newspaper report about the meeting of Aslan and the White Queen. Use the ‘Newspaper Report Checklist’ I have included in your resource pack to help you with your draft. You should also be using your planning sheet from yesterday. In addition, I have also included a WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like) in your pack so you can see how your newspaper report should be structured. If you can, spend some time highlighting the 5 W’s in this newspaper report. Can you find them?
Writing: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – Chapter 13 Writing stage: Write up, in best, your newspaper report about Aslan meeting the White Queen. I have included a template in your pack if you would like to use it. I am looking forward to reading your report; particularly the headline! Make sure it ‘jumps off the page’ and catches my eye! I will also be looking for the 5 W’s and any direct speech you have used for interviews. E.g. “I couldn’t believe my eyes when the Witch approached Aslan… she seemed brave but I knew deep down she was terrified”.
Maths this week will focus on multiplication and division (no video links are available for these activities as they are repeated from the Autumn term)

Art This week we are going to try to recreate some famous art. Each year group will recreate artwork from a different artist. You could also do some research about the artist if you like. You can use any type of media to do this; you could use pencil, chalk, pastels, paint, collage or anything else you like! I am looking forward to seeing the similarities and differences in your artwork. As always, it would be lovely if you could share a photo of your work on Purple Mash. PHSE Discussion: Discuss the importance of self- esteem and positive thoughts as a way of keeping Mentally Healthy. Emphasise the importance of showing positive regard for ourselves and to others. Discuss ways to deal with stressful times in life and the times we do not appear to be making progress towards our goals and what we would like to achieve. Activity – Mirror, Mirror Give each child a template/outline of a mirror which they can decorate. Ask other children/family members to write positive comments and self-help phrases about/for the child inside the mirror. The mirror will be a reminder to be positive, develop their self- esteem with kindness and ideas for self-care.

Forest School Make a minibeast Have a go at making a ground picture of a minibeast using natural materials. Take care making the body parts and remember the number of legs it should have. Try to find garden materials of the correct colour to make your picture. Ask somebody to try and identify your minibeast. See if you can find a real minibeast the same as yours. - Mrs Tomlinson
