1. Pick a habitat (polar/ocean/woodland/rainforest).
2. Research food chains from that habitat.
3. Draw and label your food chain, be as creative as you like!
Geography: The Good News Challenge!
Let’s banish all of the bad news and create GOOD news stories of our own.
What you will need to do is set up a news report filled with all of the GOOD new
stories you can think of. This could be something you’re really interested in, for
example football, things you’re excited for, for example going to Junior School, or
things you are thankful for, for example your family and friends.
Research your stories, write a script, have a dress
run and perform your report. If you have access to
a camera, or an iPad, use this to record your
report (but you must make sure you have asked
your adult for permission first!). Or you could
write a written report, create a poster or newspaper on paper.
When you are done and happy with your final result, share it with
your friends and family! The whole world is going through a really
difficult time at this moment, so lets spread some positivity.
Explore the world!
In our Geography learning this year, we have explored the UK, the seven continents, the five oceans, our
local area and we have compared the UK to a contrasting country. While you are learning at home, why
don’t you explore somewhere new in the world? First you should decide which of the seven continents
you’d like to find out more about, and then find a country within your chosen continent. Think about
including the climate (weather), homes, buildings, food, people and animals in this country.
If you are not sure which new place to explore, you could develop your understanding and knowledge of
The Amazon Rainforest. You could:
Research the food that can be found there.
Research the weather. Compare rainforest climate to the climate where we live.
Create a piece of art work.
Explore how people live: what are the homes like? Compare to your home.
Research facts about deforestation.
Discuss your opinion on deforestation.
Decide if you’d rather live in the Amazon or Dereham and explain your answer.
Maths:
Learn your times tables with Dinosaur Bubbles!
This is a great interactive resource that can be
accessed through Twinkl using their free login.
You can find the link on our website.
Mental Maths Challenge: Daily 10
Top Marks Daily 10 is a brilliant interactive maths resource which
includes addition, subtraction, ordering, partitioning, place value,
rounding, multiplication, division, doubling, halving and fractions. The
resource provides a set of 10 questions each day which can be timed
or untimed. The questions are suitable for children from the ages of 5
to 11. Google Top Marks Daily 10 to access these great questions
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10.
Place Value: Tens and Ones
We have learnt lots about place value this year in Maths. If you have building blocks or Lego pieces at
home, use these to recap and practise finding tens and ones of 2 digit numbers.
For example:
Number Bonds to 10 and 20:
You could also use building blocks, Lego or other objects/toys to show number bonds to 10 and 20
through addition. See the example of addition number sentences to remind yourself of the number bonds:
16 = 21 =
1 + 9 = 10 9 + 1 = 10 11 + 9 = 20 19 + 1 = 20
2 + 8 = 10 8 + 2 = 10 12 + 8 = 20 18 + 2 = 20
3 + 7 = 10 7 + 3 = 10 13 + 7 = 20 17 + 3 = 20
4 + 6 = 10 6 + 4 = 10 14 + 6 = 20 16 + 4 = 20
RE:
As we know already, Easter is a very important time of year for Christians. We celebrate
Jesus’ resurrection when He died on the cross for all Christians in The Easter Story. We
understand that your Easter celebrations may have been slightly different this year due to
churches being closed. With this in mind, here are some Religious Education ideas and
activities you could complete at home.
Twinkl have excellent resources on The Easter
Story, which includes reading, retelling and
sequencing the story. You can access Twinkl
through our school website.
Alongside your rainbow artwork, you could create a stain glass cross to
remind your neighbours and people passing by your home, that Easter
isn’t all about the chocolate! Display your artwork in your window or on
your door.
You could draw, colour or paint the scene of the Crucifixion.
You could draw and cut out three crosses to represent the three people who died on Good
Friday. On each cross you could write a few words or a sentence about why Jesus is
important to Christians, for example, He is the Son of God, He was crucified to save all
Christians, He spread the Good News of God to his disciples.
Remember, as part of our daily routine, we say three prayers together at school throughout
the day. One before lunch time, one in Collective Worship and one at the end of the day.
You could teach your family our lunch time prayer before you eat breakfast, lunch or
dinner, with the actions too!
Thank you for the world so sweet all around.
Thank you for the food we eat, yum yum.
Thank you for the birds that sing-a-ling-a-ling.
Thank you God for everything.
Amen
People all over the United Kingdom have been sharing fantastic online videos, active learning and
interactive ideas to explore during your time at home. Here are some examples:
1. Have you seen the rainbows around your area or created one
yourself?
Around the UK, hundreds of families have put a rainbow in their homes
(on the door/on a window frame) for people to find on a ‘rainbow walk’.
You could draw a rainbow using colouring pencils or pens, or use
materials at home to create a piece of artwork to display in your home
for your neighbours to see. *Remember, the Government have said we can only go on one walk a day*.
2. Have you participated in Joe Wick’s PE lessons?
Every week day morning at 9am, Joe is live on his YouTube channel leading
a brilliant PE lesson. His exercises are very active and definitely get your
heart pumping! If you are not able to join in at 9am, then don’t worry as all
of these videos are saved on his channel so you can participate whenever is
the best time for you and your family.
3. Have you seen the animals at Edinburgh Zoo?
Edinburgh Zoo have put cameras in the enclosures so that we can watch the ani-
mals. This is a must watch! When you are watching the animals, think about their
habitat and what food they are eating. You could create a portrait of an animal of
your choice while watching. https://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/webcams/panda-
cam/
4. Have you used your singing voice?
Out of the Ark Music have shared their free resources to
build singing into your daily routine. Singing is a fantastic
way to bond as a family and keep everyone smiling. As
well as a free song to access every day, they have also
created lots of ideas to extend learning at home. Google: https://www.outoftheark.co.uk/
