Page 1 Term 2 Week 6 Monday 31st August 2009 Term 4 Week 7 Monday 30th November 2009 Principal’s Message Healing Day You will have read in last week newsletter about the tragic loss of one of our ex students Paul Davis Welsh, and Rose-Lee Fernando a student in year five at Kempsey West Public School. A ‘Healing Day’ where people may pass on there condolences to family members and join with them in beginning the healing process associated with this shattering event in our community, has been organised for Wednesday 2nd December. Specific information is included in this newsletter. The school will not be sending children as an official school function, however we encourage families to make individual choices about attending this event. Pauls’ funeral is on Saturday 5th at 10.00 am at the All Saints Catholic Church, and I am sure the family will appreciate your attendance to show your respect and support for an outstanding young man. End of Term Activities Even though this is the end of the year and we are mindful of the cost of activities with Christmas approaching, we have to however ‘PAY FOR ACTIVITIES.’ Activities that are approaching are Great Aussie Bush Camp, Intensive Swim School which can have financial support if you as a parent/ carer apply to the school. We have many other activities such as Year 6 Farewell/Disco, School Party Fun Day, Kindergarten Transition, Year 6-7 Transition, Performance Assembly, Assembly of Excellence, Reports going home etc. Please read the newsletter as we have specific information re times, venues and organisation in relation to the events. If in DOUBT WITH AN ITEM ‘RING’ THE SCHOOL FOR CLARIFICATION ‘ BEFORE’ THE ‘ACTIVITY’. P&C Dinner The Annual P&C Dinner will be occurring Thursday 3rd December at The Macleay Hotel starting at 6.00 pm. All parents are welcome, you will need to contact Debbie Day at school to inform her if you are going to attend as we need to organise numbers. 2009 Rotary Citizenship Awards Congratulations to Therese May who received a Citizenship Award for making significant contributions to her school. Therese was one of 21 students who were presented with the awards on Tuesday night (24th November) at the RSL Club. The awards were given by the West Kempsey Rotary Club to students ranging from Year 2 to Year 12. The students have demonstrated outstanding qualities including courtesy, co-operation and care towards others and have been recognised for these special qualities by their schools. Well done Therese! Year 7 Orientation Day Thursday 3rd December—all Year 6 students who will attending Melville High are to attend all day on Thursday. If they will be travelling by bus next year, they are to do so before and after school on Thursday. Lunch will be supplied, but students need to take their own recess. Students must wear full school uniform and meet at the assembly hall at 8.30 sharp. Dates To Remember ASSEMBLY AWARDS No assembly for week 6 SPECIAL SWIM SCHEME Our annual Special Swim Scheme started TODAY. The students involved will be swimming everyday for the next two weeks. All year 2, 3 and some year 4,5 and 6 students attend the first session with the bus leaving our school at 12.45 and returning at 2 pm. Students from Kindergarten and Year 1 leave the school at 1.30 pm and return at 2.45 pm. Cost for each day is $4.50 which covers bus fare and pool entry. Thank you for continuing to support our schools swimming program. MELVILLE HIGH TRANSITION YEAR 6-7 Year 6 Parent/Caregiver Workshops Term 4 Where: Stan Johnson Library—Melville High (security parking in front car park) When: Wednesday 2nd December Wednesday 9th December Time: 6.30—8.30 pm Light refreshments provided RSVP: If you are interested in attending the workshops contact Melville High School on 65 627 511 Topics include: hints for the first weeks of high school; support structures at MHS; how to support your student at home. SQUASH CENTRE During term 4 students on a rating of 3, 4 or 5 will have the choice to go to the Kempsey Squash and Recreation Centre for sport. The cost is $5.00 per child. Students can play squash, racquet ball, indoor soccer, indoor cricket or use the gym. If your child would like to attend please complete the permission note below. I hereby give permission for my child ____________ in class _______ to travel by bus to the Squash Centre for sport on Friday. KIDZCARE IN ACTION THESE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS AT KEMPSEY PCYC Kempsey PCYC is getting ready for the upcoming vacation programs running throughout the school holidays in January 2010. The club will be running activities for children aged 5- 12 years of age from 8:30am – 5:30pm starting on the 4th January 2010 to 27th January 2010. A variety of programs and excursions have been organized including Rock Climbing, laser Zone & a visit to the movies, science experiments, arts, crafts, music and cooking. We will also be having Travers Ross choreographer for ‘So you Think You can Dance’ and Finalist ‘Lamb in attendance from the 12th -16th January to teach young people to dance, plus loads of other free activities. Kidzcare is covered under the Governments Child Care Benefit and places are filling fast. PCYC will be closing from the 18/12/09 and re opens 4/1/10 bookings need to be confirmed before the 18/12/09. READ ON THE WILD SIDE!!! Join up for the SUMMER READING CLUB Children aged 5 to 12 years are invited to sign up for the Summer Reading Club, starting on December 1st, at Kempsey, Stuarts Point and South West Rocks Libraries. Participants receive a log book which they fill in as they progress. Incentives to read include a free library bag, wristband, temporary tattoo and a sticker. There will be lucky draws along the way, as well as winners drawn from each of 3 age groups at a fabulous party to be held on Thursday 21st January 2010. Parents – bring your children in to your local library to sign up for Summer Reading Club – help them maintain reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, and make sure they are ready for the new school year.
