Oremus pro invicem. “Let us pray for each other.”

Father Edward C. Hathaway

ALL SAINTS/ALL SOULS MASSES Wednesday, October 31

5 p.m. Vigil Mass for the Solemnity of All Saints

Thursday, November 1 Solemnity of All Saints (Holy Day of Obligation) 6:30 a.m., 8 a.m., 12:10 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Friday, November 2

All Souls Day 6:30 a.m., 8 a.m., 12:10 p.m. and 7 p.m. (Traditional Latin Mass)

A Prayer for the Dead Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,

And let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

October — Respect Life Month During October, Respect Life Month, St. Mary parishioners have served as prayerful witnesses to life by participating in the National Life Chain along Franconia Road on October 7 and praying outside an Alexandria abortion clinic during the 40 Days for Life Campaign, which concludes on November 4. Our parish has been assigned Friday, November 2, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you would like to participate, please contact Melinda Zakrzwski at 703.624.1784 or [email protected]. This year’s Respect Life theme has been “Cherished, Chosen and Sent,” reflecting on the profound gift of life, from conception to natural death. Our prayers for life need not, and must not, be confined to just one month in the year. We should pray year-round, especially the rosary, for the unborn and all whose lives are at risk. May we always turn to Our Blessed Mother Mary, Protector of Life, for help in build-ing a true culture of life. Pope Francis Canonizes New Saints On October 14, Pope Francis canonized seven new saints, including Pope Paul VI and Salvadorean Archbishop Oscar Romero. Our newest saints also include Fr. Vincenzo Romano of Italy; Sister Nazaria Ignacia March Mesa of Spain; Mother Mary Catherine Kasper of Germany; Fr. Francesco Spinelli of Italy; and 19-year-old Nunzio Sulprizio of Italy. Common threads in the lives of these holy men and women include a willingness to fully offer their lives to Our Lord and devotion to the poor and marginalized. As St. Oscar Romero said, “The ones who have a voice must speak for those that are voiceless.” Oktoberfest is TODAY! Please join me and your fellow parishioners as we celebrate our annual Oktoberfest at the school (400 Green Street) this afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. Food, fun and music in one of the most enjoyable, family-oriented parish-wide events. Hope to see you there! REMINDER: Beginning November 4, the 8:30 a.m. Sunday Mass will be geared toward children. Please be sure to welcome our parish families with young children as we together worship Our Lord during this and all of our Holy Masses. Our exciting new lecture series, EVIDENCE OF GOD, begins on Tuesday, October 30. The three-week series features Dr. R.J. Matava of Christendon College. See page 5 in this bulletin and our website for more details. CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU to our Knights of Columbus and all who participated in their recent coat and food drives. More than 300 coats were collected, thanks to the Knights and our school’s Honor Society. The food drive brought in well over 4,500 pounds of food and $1,200 in donations for the St. Lucy Project. Our parish is so very blessed to be able to generously help others in our community.
