DECEMBER 20, 2015 FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

DEAR PARISHIONERS and VISITORS:

Part of our church’s Advent liturgy since the sixth century A.D.,

are verses known as the “O antiphons”. The writer drew seven

titles of God from the Old Testament which express the people’s

yearning for the coming of the Messiah.

These days the O Antiphons are prayed as the Alleluia verse

in the liturgy of the W ord at Mass during the last week of Advent,

and also within evening prayer and Liturgy of the Hours. Most of

us will recognize them as the foundation of the popular Advent

hymn “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.”

Through the liturgy, family devotions and personal prayer, the

O Antiphons can serve as a beautiful way to prepare for the feast

of Christmas. Here is a short list of the O Antiphons:

Dec 17 O W isdom, you proceeded from the Most High and you

arrange all that exists. (Sirach 24.3, and W isdom 8.1)

Dec 18 O Lord and Leader of the House of Israel, come and

redeem us (Exodus 3.2, Deuteronomy 5)

Dec 19 O Root of Jesse, you stand as a sign for the peoples

(Isaiah 5.15, Habakkuk 2.3)

Dec 20 O Key of David, come and break down down the walls

of sin and death (Isaiah 22.2, Psalm 107.14)

Dec 21 O Radiant One, come and enlighten those lost in

darkness (Zechariah 3.8, W isdom 7.26)

Dec 22 O King, the Only joy of every human heart (Jeremiah

10.7, Genesis 2.7)

Dec 23 O Emmanuel, Saviour of all people (Isaiah 33.22,

Zechariah 9.9)

Christ Is The Light Of Christmas

Christmas joy and lights aglow;

Christmas songs to warm and cheer

Excitement is on the children's faces

As anticipation fills the air —

But for some, it can be lonely

When loved ones have passed away,

Memories are all that linger

As the years begin to fade

But Christ's light should never dim;

It should ever shine out bright

Our ray of hope in this troubled world

Is our joy of eternal light

Christmas, when spent with Jesus,

Can warm our hurting hearts,

For as His light shines within us,

Its glow warms our deepest parts.

“God is joyful! And what is the joy of God? The joy of God is

forgiving; the joy of God is forgiving!...Here is the entire Gospel!

Here! The whole Gospel, all of Christianity, is here! Mercy is the true

force that can save man and the world from the ‘cancer’ that is sin,

moral evil, spiritual evil.” -Pope Francis

nosotros. Él quiere formar parte de nuestra familia. Además

no se nos olvide: ¡ Es su cumpleaños !

The Hispanic Community

at the Cathedral wishes you

a Blessed Christmas and aHappy New Year!

STEWARDSHIP IN OUR PARISH

Stewardship Profile of the Week

Dianne

Has been volunteering at the cathedral for

over 40 years and is our longest serving

volunteer.

Currently serves as rectory receptionist after

office hours.

Motto: “I like to be close to God, and to talk

to people, especially those with relatives

who have passed away.”

Thanks, Diane, for your longstanding service and faithfulness.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

As we draw close to the Feast of the Nativity, we hear the

great stewardship proclamation twice in today’s second

reading from the Letter to the Hebrews: “Behold, I come to

do your will, O God!” Who is this Jesus? Who are we that

we should follow him? Many want him as a friend, a guide,

a king, an advocate. Jesus reveals the nature of God, the

servant sent to give us new life in God’s house.Take time

to ponder these questions: Do we have the courage to

follow Jesus? Do we reflect God’s nature in our daily life?

Are we able to say with confidence: “Behold, I come to do

your will?” www.catholicstewardship.org
