FAZtor’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora “I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom only for you I think to myself, what a wonderful world.” Those words were written by Bob Thiele and

George David Weiss and sung by Louise Armstrong. Those are my words coming back from my recent trip to Ireland, particular-ly in Belfast. I saw trees of green because the place is blessed with the natural water from the skies. In my short 5 day stay in Ireland it rained practically every day, but like in our City, it has four seasons a day. “I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself what a wonderful world.” I also saw the bright sun shining and the beauty of the day when it was not raining. In fact, there is more daylight as the sun rises as early as 5AM and sets late at 10:30PM this time of year. It was indeed a bright blessed day as family and friends of Reverend Manuelito Muga Milo gathered at St. Peter’s Cathe-dral in west Belfast on Sunday, June 25, 2017, as he was or-dained into the Diocese of Down and Connor. He is the first non-national to be ordained into a diocese in Ireland. He was the only one being ordained in that ceremony. “The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people going by I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do They’re really saying I love you.” Surprisingly, I met a relative in Belfast whom I have not seen in a very long time, way before I was ordained a priest 31 years ago. It was a nostalgic reunion and thanks to Facebook. Alt-hough my trip was more for a religious purpose, I was able to observe the culture, learn some history and enjoy some sights of the country. Upon our arrival in Dublin, a tower building near the airport caught my attention as it carried the words: “God Is Love.” It made me think the country must be religious. While in Dublin, we visited Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dub-lin. The ordination dinner reception, which was a part of the “dark sacred night,” was held at the Titanic restaurant overlook-ing the spot where the “Titanic” ship was built and started its journey. We were also able to visit the “Giant’s Causeway” which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 and one of the natural wonders in the United Kingdom, if not in the world. Most of all, we were able to visit the apparition site of Our Lady of Knock, where we helped in administering the Sac-rament of the Anointing of the Sick just before a special mass on the Solemnity of St. John the Baptist, celebrated by several bishops and priests. ‘I hear babies crying, I watch them grow They’ll learn much more than I’ll never know And I think to myself what a wonderful world.”

FAZtor’s Notes continued… When I was a boy and when I was growing up, Irish priests came to the Philippines as missionaries. We imported priests from other countries. We learned and benefited so much from them. Now, I guess, it’s “payback” time, as Filipino priests are now serving in Ireland and in different countries. Rev. Jonathan Loverita is originally from the Philippines and is now serving in one of the parishes in New York. He will be the mission representative for this weekend’s “Missionary Cooperative Plan Appeal” for the Diocese of Catarman in the Philippines. He will be preaching in all the masses this week-end. Let’s welcome him and give our support to this appeal. Somewhere in Northern Ireland there have been times when collection plates were rarely full. During one of those dry periods, an old Irish priest looked down at the returned recepta-cle plate and prayed, “Well, Lord, we thank you for the safe re-turn of the plate.” I thank God for the gift of priesthood and my safe return from a very quick visit to Ireland. “ Yes I think to myself, What a Wonderful World.”

MISSIONARY APPEAL A Missionary Cooperative Plan Appeal for the Diocese Catarman in the Philippines will be held this weekend. Rev. Fr. JONA-THAN I. LOVERITA, representing Most Rev. Emmanuel C. Trance, D.D. will preach at all of the Masses. This Appeal is made under the auspices of the Propagation of Faith to help with relief needs of children and the poor, formation of lay leaders and clergy’s health and continuing education assistance program.

DIOCESE OF CATARMAN-PHILIPPINES The Diocese of Catarman is one of the poorest in the Philip-pines; our children live in abject poverty and we witness daily the vio-lence that starvation and disease in remote areas of our diocese cause. This is the painful reality our church faces. Simple, yet curable diseases due to malnutrition and the annual natural calamities that nature unkindly inflicts on our people cause death at an early age. Most of our villages are located in the hinterlands. Seventy-five percent of the population are farmers. Six out of hundred children die before they reach the age of one. Our area is also visited by ty-phoons, sometimes 33 times in a year, which destroy the crops and houses made of nipa huts and bamboos. In November 2013, we were hit by the strongest typhoon ever and in September 2014 by another strong typhoon. Until now we are still experiencing and recovering from those calamities. We have to wait again around seven years for the coconut crops to normalize, which is our only major source of liv-ing. Your assistance is crucial to make a difference in the surviv-al of our people. We depend on your generosity to simply live. If our proposal is approved, your help will go to the relief needs of our im-poverished children and their families, for the training and formation of our lay leaders and our clergy’s health & retirement assistance pro-gram. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

HOLY NAME LADIES AID COLLECTION Next Sunday, members of the Holy Name Ladies Aid will be col-lecting for the needy in the Parish. Boxes will be by the exits.

He would direct the groom to pay the bride’s family a dowry, and then announce the monetary amounts to the interested passersby. Only then would the guests enter the church for the wedding Mass, during which the bride and groom would hold lighted candles. The gradual move from home to church and the shift from the bride’s father to the priest’s authority helped to protect the free-dom of brides who weren’t quite as confident as the Wife of Bath. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The premier poet of the English language, Geoffrey Chaucer, introduced one of his most beloved characters, the “Wife of Bath,” by this telling remark: “Husbands at church door she had five.” Four times widowed, she was setting off on a pilgrimage, notably without number five. The church door is a curious detail, pointing to the four-teenth-century wedding custom of marrying on the porch of the parish church. The goal was to give maximum pub-licity to the consent of the groom and bride, and so con-sent was moved from the bride’s home to a public venue. The priest would stand in the doorway and begin by sprinkling the couple with holy water. He needed to make sure they weren’t too closely related and give them some instruction.

We invite you or someone you know who will be inter-ested to explore this opportunity by coming to our RCIA sessions. Our parish’s RCIA Team is composed of Sr. Cristina, Terry Flaherty, Lucy Jacinto, and different invited presenters who will share with the Inquir-ers their “expertise” about topics in the “Catechism of the Catholic Church”. Please call the parish office to register.

A HUMBLE KING Like a tonal center in music, the note to which we keep returning in today’s readings is humility. We wait in joyful expec-tation for the coming of our Lord as King. But what we are told to expect and rejoice over is a meek and humble king, riding on an ass. Not horses or chariots of the great and mighty, but a humble beast carries the Ruler whose dominion stretches “from the River to the ends of the earth” (Zechariah 9:10). This King comes to banish the tools of the warrior and bring peace. No wonder that a weary world rejoices and gives thanks to God! Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
