August 9th ♥ 19th Sunday in Ordinary
Time ♥ John 6:41-51 In today’s Gospel reading from the Book of
John, we hear three statements in which Jesus
uses the words, “I am”. Note that these words are ei-
ther directly from Jesus or from people complaining
about Jesus. These three statements form the founda-
tion or basis for much of what Catholics believe about
the Eucharist today. The statements are: “I am the
bread that came down from heaven,” “I am the bread
of life,” and “I am the living bread that came down
from heaven.”
Why are these three “I am” statements so important?
Bread is one of the basic and most important foods
that people eat.
Is Jesus important to you? Talk about why He is im-
portant to you.

Parish Photo Directory It’s that time again: time to create a new parish photo
directory. We are in need of a volunteer to oversee this
project. If you are looking for a short-term way to get
more involved at the parish then this is a great project
for you. (Holy Family school parents can earn Fair
Share Hours!) You’ll coordinate volunteers and help
schedule families for their photo sessions. Contact
Peggy at the Parish Center to learn more about this
opportunity: 503-774-1428 x102.
St. Vincent de Paul Thank you for all your time, talent, and
treasure. In the month of July we were
able to help 111 people with food, 19
people with rent, and 32 people with
utilities. Also we were able to give fans to people dur-
ing this period of extreme heat. We are able to do this
because of your generosity.
Christmas in July was a blessing for us. We had 25 ex-
tra pairs of hands. We are in hopes some will continue
to come. We can always use more help.
Speaking of help, we could really use some jam or jelly
or soup. We are out of these items and they are such
good things to have on hand. Peanut butter and jelly
sandwiches are popular among all ages, as is soup. If
you see a bargain keep us in mind.
Thank you,
Penny O’Connell

“Come and See” - RCIA Invitation
Life is filled with invitations! Sometimes these can lead us to totally unexpected experi-ences. So …. we offer you an invitation that can lead you to a life of peace, faith and hope.
If you have never been baptized and find yourself attracted to the Catholic faith, we ex-tend to you an invitation to explore the possibilities of becoming a member of the Roman
Catholic Church.
If you have been baptized in another Christian faith tradition, we offer the invitation to join in full com-munion with the Catholic Church.
Or, perhaps you have been baptized in the Catholic faith but have never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. Your invitation is to complete your sacraments of initiation.
All of these invitations are to a new way of life, a way that draws one closer to God and to his people.
If you feel this invitation may be intended for you (or you know of another), ask us about how to go about responding to the invitation. Our Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which one can answer God’s invitation. Call Vicki Ford at 503-774-1428 x. 123 or email [email protected] for more information OR Cam Hanneman [email protected]
Religious CDs, Rosaries and
Scapulars available for sale
after Mass today (Sunday)
The Mary Queen of Heaven Missionaries is a reli-
gious community established of the Archdiocese of
Cebu—Philippines. They rescue women and chil-
dren victims of prostitution and human trafficking
of all ages and care for them in their center. The
rehabilitation programs include sheltering, food and
nutrition, child care, medical and maternity assis-
tance, psychological treatment and counseling, edu-
cational assistance, livelihood and skills training,
spiritual formation, and re-integration program.
These programs enable women and children survi-
vors of trafficking and prostitution to return to pro-
ductive mainstream living, alleviate them from
poverty—which is the major backdrop that makes
trafficking and prostitution possible, and empower
women and children survivors by widening the
range of choices they have on matters that affect
their lives.
The rosaries and scapulars are handmade by the
poor families in the Philippines and support the
programs listed above.
Thank you for your generous support!

We are looking to purchase addi-tional chairs for the sanctuary.
There are many occasions when there are extra priests? Maybe the Archbishop? Maybe extra servers or additional deacons?
At these times we basically choose from random available chairs, and aesthetically, we would like to have matching chairs.
We will be commissioning The Joinery who made the chairs we have now, in the hopes of having all nearly a perfect match,. If you would like to contribute financially to the construction of these chairs, please share your desire with Fr. Rodel or Vicki Ford.
Blessings!

KLOTHES FOR KIDS I have been working with a support agency in our SE Portland and have been made aware of an
ever increasing need for school clothing for homeless children as well as those in challenging
financial circumstances. It is so difficult for these children to cope in the first place, but to stand
out because of how they dress is even more of a blow to their self esteem. I would like to begin
collecting gently worn clothing, including shoes, in the vestibule of church and then at Holy
Family school when classes resume and see how it goes. I would ask that you think in terms of
what your child would wear to school and contribute accordingly. All ages from Kinder through
high school are needed. If you feel moved to do so and are able, new clothes would be most
welcome, of course. Thank you so much.
