We may have all kinds of doubts and struggles, and you feel anxious and alone, and then you hear our Pope saying it s OK, were all in this together. Open yourself up to the darkness and uncertainty because it s only then, that the Lord can really enter in; only then that the Lord can really fill us up. May these last days of Advent find you waiting and making room in your life for our loving Lord. Fr. Fourth Sunday of Advent

Good People of Holy Cross, I know that in searching for God we are searching for peace, rest and security, but at a certain point, in the winter advent darkness, it’s time to deepen faith, time to embrace complexity. Do not presume that you have everything figured out. Pope Francis says: “In this quest to seek and find God in all things there is still an area of uncertainty. There must be. If a person says that they met God with total certainty and is not touched by a margin of uncertainty, then this is not good. For me, this is an important key. If one has the answers to all the questions—that is the proof that God is not with him…The great leaders of the people of God have always left room for doubt. You must leave room for the Lord, we must be humble. Uncertainty is in every true discernment that is open to finding confirmation in spiritual consolation.” The only thing that matters is discerning the presence of God in our lives. Pope Francis is saying, one of the main indications that we’re on the right track, is when we’re not sure we are, when we’re uncertain. We may have all kinds of doubts and struggles, and you feel anxious and alone, and then you hear our Pope saying it’s OK, we’re all in this together. Open yourself up to the darkness and uncertainty because it’s only then, that the Lord can really enter in; only then that the Lord can really fill us up. May these last days of Advent find you waiting and making room in your life for our loving Lord. Fr. Jude Michael
