PASTOR’S LETTER Good People of Holy Cross,
As human beings, we enter the human journey through the waters of birth.
Though we can exist days without food, life cannot continue without water. The
earth itself is nourished by rain and dimpled by streams, rivers, lakes, and
oceans. After air, water is the most precious, required element to sustain our
lives. Baptism reminds us that God is the giver of life. When a person is
baptized in the name of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we confess that all life, in
all its wonder, complexity, and beauty is a gift from God. We do well to honor the sanctity of life
because in doing so, we honor the Giver of life. God’s gift of life in baptism calls us to be people who
celebrate “the new” in ourselves and others. And just what is “the new”? an awareness that no matter
how difficult and dark life’s circumstances may be or become, God longs to bring about that which is
new in our lives. It may be a new attitude or a new relationship. It could be a new commitment to
faithfulness in prayer and worship or a new devotion to being a caring, compassionate human being.
Jesus was baptized as a sign of his commitment to God the Father, so we remember his baptism and
ours as a moment when loving family and friends placed dripping mark of our faith in our lives. As we
remember and celebrate, God calls us to step from this place of worship into a world that has lost its
way, looking for water in all the wrong places. Let’s be the “new waters” of life to all we encounter.
Blessings,
Fr. Jude Michael
Bendiciones
Fr. Jude Michael

PRAYERS
Loving God, Holy One, Your desire is for our wholeness and well-being. We hold in tenderness and prayer the collective suffering of our world at this time. We grieve precious lives lost and vulnerable lives threatened. We ache for ourselves and our neighbors, standing before an uncertain future. We pray: may love, not fear, go viral. Inspire our leaders to discern and choose wisely, aligned with the common good. Help us to practice social distancing and reveal to us new and creative ways to come together in spirit and in solidarity. Call us to profound trust in your faithful presence, You, the God who does not abandon, You, the Hold One, breathing within us, breathing among us, breathing around us in our beautiful yet wounded world. -Chris Koellhoffer, IHM

TROOP SUPPORT MINISTRY, CONTINUED...
For the past 10 years the Troop Support Ministry has increased recognition of our Veterans by
having special Memorial Day Bulletins and appropriate music from the choir. For Veterans Day we have
recognized our own through a variety of programs from processing in to the Sanctuary with the
Celebrant to receiving service and flag pins, a miniature bag of snacks that we send to deployed troops
and most recently, a beautiful Challenge Coin. Our living and deceased Veterans names have been
listed in the Memorial Day and Veterans Day bulletins.
Holy Cross’ support for our active duty deployed troops and our Veterans has been recognized by the
Archdiocese of Atlanta as a Veterans Friendly Parish and there have been articles in the Georgia
Bulletin about this most worthy ministry. The members of our Ministry have put their heart and soul into
this mission. The Ministry has been blessed with the enthusiastic support of Father Patrick, Father
Richard and by Father Jude Michael, who has been especially supportive of the ministry .
This ministry started with a small group , and has now increased to a large number of dedicated
members, including a few people from other parishes.
Several young parishioners have worked with the ministry for community service. Two young girls
have sewn hundreds of prayer squares. This is truly a parish wide ministry.
Five of the original members are no longer with us, but the ministry was so special to them that
several families requested that donations be made to ministry.
The members are very grateful for the continued support of this very special ministry.
