Healthcare No inpatient facilities as an open establishment most of our women go out for dentist, optician etc.We have daily nurse cover from 8 till 4, Doctor 3 times a week, well woman clinic.
Accommodation Large old country house.We have no single rooms, our 21 rooms vary from 2 to 12 occupants.
Because we are dormitories then no birds are allowed.
Lifers would expect to be put into a 3 or 4 bedded room.
All rooms have TV’s.There are 2 rooms with large TV’s and DVD players.
All bedrooms are no smoking so we have a smoking room.
VisitsSaturday and Sunday visits 1330 until 1530.If coming by train we will pick up fromHeadcorn station.
Once lifer has passed the date she is eligible for outside family visits she would normally get 11 hour visit at home twice a month.
Sport and recreation Small gym used for recreational sport as we are a working prison.
Any specialised courses, life saving and aerobics, are done at HMP Stanford Hill on a daily basis.
Current arrangements for this are under review and will possibly cease.

Roll on, roll off courses are run in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT Level 1 and Level 2. Most students can be accommodated without waiting more than a couple of days.Non-accredited courses are run for Health care patients in Yoga, Creative Writing, Art &Craft, Ceramics and Therapeutic art. There is no waiting list.Drug and Alcohol awareness courses also available, waiting times rarely over 2 weeks as these are run fortnightly. Numeracy,
at Entry, Level 1 and Level 2 and Basic Skills (i.e. ICT, literacy) usually can be accessed either immediately or within a matter of few days. Students rarely have to wait more than 2 weeks to access an Alcohol or Drugs Awareness Course.Accredited vocational courses are also run in Salon Services, food hygiene (RIPH) manicure, and preparation for employment: waiting times vary according to fluctuating levels of demand and can be between a couple of days to around 4-5 weeks. Accredited courses are also run in art and craft. Courses are shortly due to start in Industrial Cleaning, parentcraft, citizenship, personal finance and performing arts.Accredited vocational courses starting in March will be in Food Premises Cleaning ( via the kitchen) and Horticultural Skills ( via the Farms and Gardens).Please note we do not offer NVQs owing to our short stay population. ALL our courses are aimed at those staying 4-8 weeks in line with our average sentence length, and are at Entry Level 1 and just
occasionally Level 2, being designed as “taster” courses only. We are not in a position to offer higher level courses for longer-stay prisoners.
