The story of Home Line began in Philadelphia in the mid-60’s, when an earnest, down-on-his-luck businessman named Charles (Chuck)
Verne decided to try his hand in the furniture business. With the help of his teenage sons Joe and Lew, who as Chuck fondly recalls
“enjoyed work more than school,” he opened Chuck’s Bargain House.
By the late 60’s, Joe and Lew were taking over most of the responsibilities from Chuck and were setting their sights on distribution.
The business had quickly transformed from used furniture store, to new and used furniture, to wholesale showroom.
The turning point came when an opportunity to purchase hundreds of lamps at a “close-out” price surfaced. When a few hundred
lamps sold out in 3 days, they knew distribution was what they could do best. Through sheer determination and ideas centered on
providing retailers with furniture distribution services that were second to none, the territories quickly expanded.
Over the next 30 years Home Line dominated service areas by introducing, among other things, the
industry’s first “oversized catalog” and promising speedy NEXT DAY DELIVERY in 16 major markets.
In addition, the company added two Distribution Centers in Chicago and New England.
Now led by the third generation, Bret Vernekoff and Josh Verne, the family business has evolved
into a global importer and furniture manufacturing business. They have coined the current
vision statement which is the company's motto...MMaakkee IItt EEaassyy!!
