HITACHI proudly presents to our customers this wide range of split-system air conditioners, from 4 HP to 20 HP, which is designed for high and medium outdoor temperatures and comply with almost any types of installation requirements. These split-system air conditioners are composed of condensing units and cooling units. The condensing units are composed of compressors, air-cooled condensers, condenser fans, auxiliary and control equipments compactly packed in a
weather-proof cabinet. The cooling units are direct expansion fan coil units for indoor installations, and are designed for duct air distribution systems in domestic and commercial applications. These units are composed of evaporator, expansion valve(s) or capillary tubes (for RAS-4U2S through RAS -10U2S only), an evaporator fan, a fan motor and auxiliary equipments in a cabinet.

FEATURES Optimum Designs for Individual Requirements
Cooling Units
High Performance Evaporator Fan The powerful and efficient multi-blade centrifugal fan creates high static pressure with minimum power consumption and smooth air flow. Evaporator fan bearings can be replaced without removing fans. An adjustable motor pulley is mounted in RAS-6U2S through RAS-20U2S, in order to cover wider ranges of fan speed.
Well-Designed Evaporator Highly-Efficient cross fin coils have been applied to provide a larger cooling capacity with low air speed on the coil.
Condensing Units
Energy-Saving Design Highly-Efficient Scroll Compressors - Low power input is achieved by specially designed compressors and heat exchangers and their combinations.
Optional Accessories Filter Box and Filter - A high performance air filter and a filter box are provided for the return air connection of all models.

The applicable voltage range for each unit is given in the Electrical Data. The working voltage among the three phases must be balanced within a 3% deviation from each voltage at the compressor terminals. The starting voltage must be higher than 85% of the rated voltage.

3. Read Performance of the Model
The total cooling capacity (TC), sensible heat capacity (SHC*) at the dry bulb given in the table, compressor power input (IPT), and sensible heat correction factor (CR) can be determined by interpolation (or some can be read directly from the table when the conditions coincide with the tabulated figures).

4. Correct the Sensible Heat Capacity (If Required)
Correct the sensible heat capacity for the given 29°C evaporator air inlet dry bulb from the tabulated 27°C (DB*) according to the following formula.
SHC =SHC*+CR×(DB-DB*), where,
SHC : corrected sensible heat capacity (×1,000kcal/h),
SHC* : sensible heat capacity from in the table (×1,000kcal/h),
DB : given evaporator air inlet dry bulb (°C) and
DB*: evaporator air inlet dry bulb (°C) given for each WB in the table.
For this example,
SHC =22.2+1.75x(29-27)=25.7(x1,000kca/h) 5. Determine the Readjusting Requirements for
Evaporator Fan From the Fan Performance Table (Page 19), the required fan speeds and motor brake power are determined to be 1,045 rpm and 1.10kW, respectively. (Evaporator fan motor input is 1.19kW as seen on Page 23, Electrical Data-Cooling Unit-IPT column for evaporator fan motor at 415V). In this case, the factory-mounted standard fan motor (2.2kW) possesses sufficient capacity. However, the regulation space of the adjustable motor pulley should be readjusted to 2.2mm (see “Fan Speed Adjustment” on Page 21).
6. Determine the Net Capacity
The capacities are gross capacities, which include the effect of evaporator fan motor heat. To determine net capacity as follows: Net capacity =gross capacity – MIF heat
=gross capacity (kcal/h) – MIF input (kW) x 860 (kcal/kW.h)
=30,100 kcal/h – 1.19 kW x 860 kcal/kW.h =30,100 kcal/h – 1,023 kcal/h =29,077 kcal/h
Net sensible capacity =25,700 kcal/h – 1,023 kcal/h =24,677 kcal/h

CONTROL SYSTEM Refrigerant Control
Refrigeration Cycle
Condensing Unit Models RAS-13CT2S through RAS-20CT2S are composed of two refrigeration cycles. In addition to the basic condensing unit components (compressor and air-cooled condenser), the following components are equipped in each circuit.
Stop Valves for Gas Line and Liquid Line – These stop valves are equipped at the unit piping connections, and enhance the evacuation and charging functions.
Cooling Unit Refrigerant Flow Control – Thermal expansion valves are equipped for models RAS-13U2S, RAS-15U2S and RAS-20U2S.
Dryer – A filter-dryer is shipped for installation at the site. (for models RAS-13U2S, RAS-15U2S and RAS-20U2S)
Electrical Operation Control
A field-supplied main power switch supplies to the unit. When the room thermostat is set at “FAN ON” position, the indoor fan is started. When the room thermostat is set at “FAN AUTO” and “COOL ON” position, all electrical and protective devices are satisfied, the thermostat in the room thermostat controls the compressor operation (refer to “Operational Sequence Chart”).
Capacity Control – The field supplied Room Thermostat for the dual-circuited models starts and stops compressor operation in each circuit, responding to the room temperature with the room thermostat elements. This system enables full load, 60% or 50% load and no load (ceasing both compressor) operations. Function of Safety Devices Automatic Restarting System (Standard Sequence) – The timer relay for compressor connected in the compressor control circuit delays the compressor restarting period for approximately three (3) minutes after the thermostat calls for the cooling operation or automatic resetting of the protection devices, thereby preventing a harmful compressor cycling operation.

Protection and Safety ControlCompressor Protection All units are equipped with the following compressor protection system, in order to provide a perfect guarding function for the compressor.
High Pressure Switches – Leading the pressures from the compressor discharge lines, this switch cut out the compressor operation when the discharge pressure exceeds the setting pressure.
Overcurrent Transformer – This sensor stop the compressor operation when the current exceeds the setting.
Internal Thermostat for compressor – Embedded in the compressor motor winding, this thermostat cuts out the compressor operation when the compressor winding temperature exceeds the setting.
Reverse Phase Protection – The reverse phase protection which is a built-in function of PCB will make the compressor not start when the power source is incorrectly connected.
Compressor Cycling Protection Timer – This timer which is a built-in function of PCB provides the above combination with the most effective functions by delaying the compressor restarting period (refer to “Operational Sequence Chart”)
Other Protection
The fan motor is protected by the following device:
Overcurrent Relay for Evaporator Fan Motor – This manual reset type thermal overcurrent relay for the evaporator fan motor interlocks system operation.
Internal Thermostat for Condenser Fan Motor – Embedded in the fan motor winding, this internal thermostat cuts out the operation of the fan motor when winding temperature exceeds the setting.
Internal Thermostat for Evaporator Fan Motor – Embedded in the fan motor winding, this internal thermostat cuts out the operation of the fan motor when winding temperature exceeds the setting. (RAS-4U2S and RAS-5U2S only)

INSTALLATION DATA Ducting Provisions
Connections Pre-drilled duct flanges for return and supply air ducting are equipped at the factory for these units.
Duct Arrangement Model RAS-20U2S is composed of a fan compartment and a coil compartment. The factory standard horizontal flow air can be changed as explained in the figure on page 2. .
Field Piping Provisions for Condensate Drain
A female piping thread screw connection is provided. Dimension “L” in the figure should be sufficiently longer than the negative fan pressure at the drain connection
(50 mm to 100mm depending on the return air duct design).
Condensate Drain Connection NOTE: When the relative humidity of inlet air or ambient air exceeds 80%, apply an (field-supplied) auxiliary drain pan beneath the cooling unit shown in the figure.
Field Piping Provisions for Refrigerant Piping Piping Arrangement These units are pre-piped at the factory: the required field piping is connection piping between the cooling unit and the condensing unit. To ensure satisfactory operation, the following piping arrangements must be provided.
Loops and Traps – Liquid loops or oil traps must be provided according to the mutual locations of the condensing unit and the cooling unit.
Filter-Dryer – A factory-supplied filter-dryer should be provided as shown in the figure for each refrigeration cycle.(RAS-13U2S, RAS-15U2S and RAS-20U2S only)
Sight Glass – A field-supplied liquid line sight glass must be assembled and mounted in the field, as shown in the figure for each refrigeration cycle.
Solenoid Valve – A field-supplied solenoid valve for each cycle must be equipped immediately up-stream of the expansion valve of the cooling unit, when the connection piping length exceeds the following limits. Refer to the typical wiring diagram for the solenoid valve control wiring.

INSTALLATION DATA
Field Wiring Provisions Field wiring The units are internally wired at the factory according to generally accepted electrical technology. Required field wiring to conform to the HITACHI Standard Wiring and required components are as follows.
Required Field Wiring – Main power wiring to the unit, Earth Wiring, Thermostat Control Wiring and Solenoid Valve Control Wiring (When the unit is to be operated under the conditions specified in the Field Piping Provisions)
Required Components – Main Power Switch, Main Power Fuses, Conduit Coupling, Solenoid Valve (When the unit is to be operated under the conditions specified in the Field Piping Provisions) and Room Thermostat.
NOTE: When installing the solenoid valve, connect the wiring of the solenoid valve to the terminals for control, in order that the solenoid valve will be opened when the compressor is operating and will be closed when the compressor is stopped.
Wire and Fuse Size Selection Wire and fuse sizes should be selected in accordance with national and local codes, taking the designed maximum ambient temperature into account. The system maximum current will be the sum of the compressor maximum current, condenser fan motor current and evaporator fan motor maximum current (refer to the Electrical Data).

SPECIFICATIONS
Standard Specifications Unit – The air conditioner shall be a split-system air conditioner for application with R-22 refrigerant, and shall be composed of a cooling unit and a condensing unit(s) with one or two refrigeration cycles, electrical components and enclosing cabinets. Optional accessories shall also be provided upon customer request. The condensing unit shall be completely weatherproof for outdoor installation, and the cooling unit shall be designed for indoor installation. The condensing unit and the cooling unit shall be properly assembled, internally piped and wired, and thoroughly tested and holding charged with R-22 refrigerant at the factory. Capacity – The total cooling capacity of the unit shall be kcal/h or greater, and the sensible heat capacity shall be kcal/h or greater with °C evaporator air inlet dry bulb, °C evaporator air inlet wet bulb, °C condenser air inlet temperature and m3/min. evaporator air flow. The total compressor power input shall not exceed kW. CONDENSING UNIT
Cabinet – The cabinet shall be constructed of galvanized steel baked with synthetic resin paint. The service panels shall be easily removable for service access to electrical components, compressors, condensers and condenser fans. Refrigeration Cycle – The refrigeration cycle shall be equipped with a hermetic compressor, an air-cooled condenser coil, an evaporator coil, check joints for high pressure line and low pressure line. Compressor – The compressor shall be a hermetic compressor. The starting method shall be the direct-on-line type. The hermetic compressor shall be a welded shell type, and spring-suspended internally. The compressor shall be mounted on vibration-proof rubber bushings. Condenser Fan and Condenser Fan Motor – The condenser fan shall be the aluminum propeller type, dynamically and statically balanced, and the condenser fan shall be directly driven by a kW motor for up-flow air discharge. The motor shall be permanently lubricated, and protected from water invasion.
Condenser – The air-cooled coil shall be the multi-pass, cross-finned tube type, equipped with highly-efficient aluminum fins, mechanically bonded to oxygen-free copper tubes. The coil shall be cleaned, dehydrated and tested for leakage at the factory. Compressor Protection – The compressor shall be protected against breakdown by a quick response overcurrent relay, a high pressure switch, a cycling protection circuit and a discharge gas thermostat. COOLING UNIT
Evaporator - The evaporator shall be the multi-pass cross-finned tube type, equipped with highly-efficient aluminum fins, mechanically bonded to seamless, oxygen-free copper tubes. The fins shall be spaced at more than 12 fins per 25.4 mm. The face area of the evaporator shall not be less than m2. The coil shall be cleaned, dehydrated and tested for leakage at the factory. Evaporator Fan and Evaporator Fan Motor – The evaporator fan shall be the forward-curved, multi-blade centrifugal type, statically and dynamically balanced, and V-belt driven by a kW motor. The evaporator fan motor shall be permanently lubricated. The fan shall deliver air flow m3/min. at mmAq external static pressure at rpm. OTHER ITEMS
Control – All electrical control devices, except for the field-supplied room thermostat assembly, shall be enclosed in a weatherproof location of a unit. In addition to the compressor protection devices, the unit shall be provided with fuses for the control circuit, and auxiliary relays.
