Jannisary Corps created under Osman. Timar System: those who served the Sultan were granted/inherited land called the “Timar.” The Battle of Losovo, led by Murad I in 1389. Lost his life here. Ottoman Expansion o The Army: “raiders or akinji” Basically bandits. Mehmed II: Also known as the conqueror. Istanbul: The capital of the Ottoman Empire. Vlad Tepes of Wallachia. (Also known as Dracula.) Suleiman I 1494-1566. o Expanded through North Africa, the Middle East, and far into Europe. o Patron of the Arts and education. o Considered free of corruption and meritocratic o Meritocratic means to give jobs based on hard work and accomplishments. o Very religiously tolerant of any religion.
