E x p e r i e n c e the History of Savannah

To make a reservation call now! 1-800-448-9061

“I beg to present you, as a Christmas gift, the city of Savannah.”

-General Sherman to President Lincoln, Dec 22, 1864

Founded in 1733 and only 45 minutes from Hilton Head Island, there is no other city quite like the picturesque Savannah, Georgia - billed as Georgia’s first city. It was left untouched by the Civil War so much of the architecture and design you see in this coastal city is unmatched in any other place.

Savannah is a city of firsts. It was: • The first capital of the 13th colony and later of Georgia• The first city in North America planned on an extensive system of squares• The first lighthouse on the south Atlantic coast• The first Girl Scout Troop

Many visitors come for the beauty of the buildings and homes but find Savannah’s appeal is about so much more. There are beautiful town squares such as Telfair Square, Liberty Square and Chippewa Square with parks and statues that each tell their own story. It is recommended that you sightsee with a tour company such as the Old Town Trolley to get an idea of the history and layout of the city. There are many places purported to be haunted, such as the Pirates House Restaurant. Tours specialize in taking visitors to see some of these legendary haunts first-hand. There are museums, fine dining, dueling piano bars and charter boats. Don’t miss River Street! This cobblestone street has unique shops, dining, hotels, bars and more. The Waving Girl statue is a must-see.

The Insider’s Guide has all of the Old Town Trolley Stops listed for you so you can plan ahead for what you would like to see. Stay in Savannah for a day or a week. You will never run out of things to do!
