Put your hand up if you think you are better at reading, maths, writing, being friendly, trying harder things, being kind, being a friend? That is a lot of takeaways that you are taking away this year. If you think about today, I’m sure there will be some more takeaways for you. My takeaways are: I am very proud to be the Principal of this school. I am very proud of our wonderful teachers and support staff who are so dedicated to the teaching and learning at HPS. And last but not least I am very proud of all of you, o For your hard work o For kindness to others o For your willingness to improve your learning daily o For being excellent HPS kids So remember everyday whether at school or home there will always be a takeaway for you.” I have included this for those who may not have had the opportunity to attend the prizegiving. The learning that I am talking about cannot be achieved without a dedicated teaching team including the support staff, who put their very best into the teaching and learning programmes that support our learners. So many thanks to them. Lastly, a very special thanks to you as parents of these wonderful children, thanks for your support to us at HPS and I wish you a happy and safe summer break. Principal’s Voice:

Dear Parents and Caregivers Kia Ora

What another fantastic year of learning has taken place at Hillsborough.

We had a wonderful end of year prize giving last Friday with many children receiving certificates. This was a great opportunity to acknowledge these children for their efforts.

I also want to acknowledge all the children for a great year of learning no matter where they happen to be on their own learning journey.

Here are some of my thoughts from that day.

“Today I would like to talk to you about takeaways. Put your hand up if you like takeaways, some favourites are McDonalds, KFC, Pizza and many more. Do you know that we have an opportunity to have takeaways everyday. I am talking about learning takeaways. What could be some of your learning takeaways for this year? Put your hand up if you think you are better at reading, maths, writing, being friendly, trying harder things, being kind, being a friend? That is a lot of takeaways that you are taking away this year. If you think about today, I’m sure there will be some more takeaways for you. My takeaways are:

I am very proud to be the Principal of this school.

And last but not least I am very proud of all of you, o For your hard work o For kindness to others o For your willingness to improve your learning daily o For being excellent HPS kids

Last week the Chess Team competed in the Australasian Primary Schools Chess Championship, placing 5th out of the top 29 schools. Just one more win would have seen us in the top three! The team did outstandingly well. Congratulations to Tyleah, Hunter and Grayson Po’e Tofaeono, Ayaan Vasudeva, Abraham Chanwong, Nithya Anegondi, Varsha Sreeram Babu, Allie O’Callaghan, Xabi Jenkyn-Jones, Bailey Nagel and Daniel Stewart. The Hillsborough Chess Champion Trophies do not simply go to the best player, although they must be one of the best. They must also show a champion spirit, consistency and be part of a team. As part of our champion team of the last three years, the Boys Chess Champion Trophy goes to Ayaan Vasudeva! Congratulations. The Girls Chess Trophy goes to our best female player and one of the best players in the school. Congratulations to Tyleah Po’e Tofaeono. Once again we like to say a big thankyou to Mr Wayne McDougall for his excellent coaching and time spent with our chess team.
