BOARD OF DIRECTORS ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES - May 16, 2011

President Kathy Baldwin called the May 16, 2011 General session of the Board of Directors to order at 8:40 p.m.

President’s Annual ReportKathy Baldwin welcomed Co-Owners and thanked all

members of the Board for the time and dedicationthey have put forth over the past year. Please seepages 11-13 of the June Herald for the entire report.

Treasurers Annual Report Tom Byrne reviewed the nancial condition of the

Association. Please see pages 14-17 of the JuneHerald for the entire report.

Election Committee Report See report on page 19 Joe Sattler announced the Election results thanking

Co-Chair Ray Parzych and committee members for

assisting in counting the ballots and for their hard work. Mr. Sattler pointed out that 235 (34%) proxies were received, which was just 4 over the minimumrequirement for a legal meeting. He reiterated theimportance of returning the proxies in order to havea quorum for the annual meetings. 225 Legal ballots were submitted. See the Election results on page 18of the June Herald.

Board Action: Motion by Kathleen Connor,support by Sandy Nolan to accept the accepted theElection Committee Report dated May 13, 2011and recommendation that the 2011 Election ballotsbe retained for 30 days and then destroyed by theElection Committee.

The Thirty-Sixth Annual meeting of the Board of Directors and Membership of Highland Lakes Condominium Association was held at the principal ofce of the Association in the Township of Northville, State of Michigan, on the16th day of May 2011, in accordance with the By-Laws of the Association. President Kathy Baldwin called the meeting

to order at 7:30 p.m.

Attendance The following Directors were present: Kathy Baldwin, Michelle Todorov, Kathleen Connor, Tom Byrne, Sandy

Nolan, Clem Tulley and Judy Nakdimen. Also present were Joe Poma, Property Manager, Ken Wiewiora, Maintenance

Superintendent, Shannon Crowley, Administrative Assistant, and Merrick Maris from Farm Bureau Insurance. Approximately 45 Co-Owners were also present.

Board members went into closed session to elect officers and assign committee liaisons.

Insurance Presentation:Kathy Baldwin introduced Merrick Maris from Maris Agency. Merrick came to discuss our current policy,and answer insurance questions specic to the needsof condo owners.

Merrick opened by thanking the residents for choosing his agency to insure the property. He noted that one

of the main reasons there has been such a savings oninsurance in this year ( see Treasurer’s Report ), is becauseof how well the association and managementmaintains the property. He added that when theunderwriters saw the property, they could ndnothing wrong with the property, and gave HLCAan A+ Rating.

Merrick also took time to explain the difference betweeninsurance that covers your dwelling (improvementsand betterments) and personal property coverage.He also encouraged the residents to ask their agent

about obtaining additional coverage that goesabove and beyond dwelling coverage and personalproperty coverage. He recommended “Water Back-Up” coverage which would cover you in the case of a sewer or sump pump failure. (Merrick explained

that the association’s policy covers water back-up,but only restores the unit to “as built” condition, which covers the structure and would not cover any contents or personal improvements to the unit, like anished basement.)

He also strongly recommended “Loss Assessment”coverage, which extends to cover the co-owner

beyond what the association policy covers in theevent of a claim or lawsuit that is higher than whatthe association covers. Kathleen explained that inthe event that HLCA is sued, and the association’scoverage isn’t enough to cover the damages, then theco-owner’s loss assessment coverage would coverthe difference. She afrmed that it was a good ideathat everyone have this as it is very affordable, and very valuable should an incident arise where it wasnecessary. Merrick stated that the difference between$1000 in coverage and $20K Coverage is only $7/yr.

Maris Agency’s information can always be found on theback inside cover of the Herald ; Merrick encouragedco-owners to call his ofce with any questions aboutthe property insurance or other personal insurancequestions.

Finance Committee Report: See report page 22 Earl Smith Reported to the Board.

Board Discussion: Kathy pointed out that twomembers of the nance committee were alsomembers of the Ad Hoc committee, so they do havecopies of the DA Home Improvement contract.

Joyce Elvy said that she was under the impressionthat the contract was further modied before it wassigned, so she wasn’t sure she had the nal version of the contract. Joe said that there were no changes tothe prices on the contract that were presented to the Ad Hoc committee.

Kathleen also asked about the Northville Collision billthat is referred to in the report. Joe explained thatit covered damage done by a maintenance person with a snow plow tractor to the rear bumper of a carparked in Hayes Court during the winter.

Tennis Committee Report: See report on page 24Earl Smith reported to the board.

Board Discussion: Earl pointed out that inrecommendation #4, these cracks were just repairedin 2010, but because of the springs under the courtthis will be an on going issue. He recommended

nding a solution to repair in-house. Tom asked if the recommendation includes a ceiling on the amountto be paid for the repair. Ken said he would need tofurther investigate what the repair would cost andpresent it at the next meeting.

Tom asked what our liability would be to offer lessonsfor children on our tennis courts. (Recommendation #2).Kathy said she didn’t think it would be any differentthan offering swimming lessons in our pool. Earlsaid that the committee felt that if it was limitedto children of residents, then our insurance would

cover the use of the court for lessons. Merrick added the association would be liable only in asituation of negligence. Joe said that the HLCA hasliability coverage that extends to guests of co-ownersbecause we owe them a certain duty of care on theproperty, (i.e. holes in the grass etc.) He continuedby saying, “There is an added risk if we start to host classes for non-residents of Highland Lakes by virtue of the fact that we’re inviting people in that otherwise would not have been here, and we’re exposing those persons to our own pitfalls, or things that we have failed to do. If we have a class of 30



people at the tennis court, there wouldn’t have been 30 people here to slip and fall if we had we not offered the lessons...There’s always going to be that risk, but just because the person is not a resident of Highland Lakes does not mean that we’re susceptible for liability for our own negligence.”

Sandy asked what the committee had in mind for amore “user friendly” key system. (Recommendation #5).Earl said that the committee hadn’t arrived at a

solution. Michelle said that Carol Shields, (the Tennis Committee Chair & Tennis instructor) had volunteeredto hold a key and open the courts for players that would like to use the court on the weekends beforethe clubhouse opens at noon.

Judy suggested modifying the recommendations to theboard as follows:

1. Install nets on the court AlreAdy done

2. Approve usage of courts for lessons for Highland

Lakes Residents and their children only.

3. Ask if grass can be mowed away from courts K en

will instruct mAintenAnce to complete.

4. Repair cracks on courts

5. Consider a more user-friendly key system. Provide

Chair of the Tennis Committee a key.

Board Action: Motion by Judy Nakdimen, support by Sandy Nolan to accept the Tennis Committee Reportdated April 26, 2011, and to table recommendation#4 (awaiting quote for repair) and to approverecommendations #2 & #5 as revised. All in favor.Motion passed.

Board Discussion: Beverly asked Joe when the new rates for the Herald advertising would be put intoeffect. Joe said that it would be put into effect withnew renewals within 30 days.

Board Action: Motion by Kathleen Connor, supportby Sandy Nolan, to accept Herald Committee Report

dated May 2, 2011 and price increases proposed by management. All in favor. Motion passed.

Grounds Committee Report: See report on page 28 Ray Parzych Reported to the Board.

Board Discussion: Joe explained that the residentsof Ironwood Court for years about having to look at the RV lot. Last summer, Plymouth Nursery gave

Joe a quote for building up the berm hill in that area. There was some discussion about whether to build afence or plant pine trees to cover the area naturally. The residents of Ironwood Court were surveyed lastyear and the overwhelming majority preferred thetreeline as opposed to the fence to fully cover the view of the RV lot. As soon as Joe gets the bid fromPlymouth Nursery and other contractors, he willpresent it at the June Grounds committee meeting.

Tom asked if the committee had an estimated cost forthe removal of the cement in their recommendation.

Ken answered that if its done in house, it would beabout $100-$200 in supplies (sod or topsoil). Haul-away would be approx. $200-$300. Kathleen askedif it would cause any damage to the structure toremove it. Ken answered that the structure wouldnot be affected as it is a separate slab.

Tom expressed his frustration because some membersof the nance committee who typically challengethese kinds of expenditures are the ones who areproposing projects to spend money. Ray explainedthat the cement was an issue that was brought up by

someone else at the committee meeting, and statedthat there was enough money in the Grounds budgetto cover the cost. He agreed that the sign at RussFogg Drive is an unnecessary expense at this time,but said the Ironwood Court berm would increasethe property value of those units. Maureen said thatsome of the ideas for the projects were just planningstages so that they could be completed efciently to benet everyone. Ray continued by saying the volunteer work of the Grounds committee membershas saved the association thousands of dollars by not having to hire a contractor to do the landscaping work that they do.

Board Action: Motion by Michelle Todorov, supportby Judy Nakdimen, to accept Grounds CommitteeReport dated May 3, 2011 and their recommendation with the condition that it not exceed $500, andthat the funds would be used from the GroundsCommittee budget. All in favor. Motion passed.

Board Discussion: Michelle asked if the swim lessons

and water aerobics were open to guests or HLCAresidents only. Joe said the lessons were for residentsonly. He said there was some discussion of guestsfor water aerobics, but since there isn’t an instructorin place yet, its not yet decided. There was somediscussion about whether it was practical to openthe lessons (Water Aerobics, Children Swim Lessons and Children Tennis Lessons) to guests. Merrick said thatit would be different if we were actively advertising the swim/tennis lessons to outsiders. Just having someone bring a friend/guest/relative is not the

same liability risk. The consensus was to limit alllessons to HLCA residents and their relatives.

Engineering Committee Report: See report page 31 Tom Werner Reported to the Board.

Board Discussion: Tom explained that thconsideration of more door options was due to thefact that some of the door designs currently in theModifcation packet / approved list are now obsoleteand can no longer be purchased.

Board Action: Motion by Kathleen Connor, supportby Judy Nakdimen to accept the recommendationsto approve the requests #1-6 on the Engineering Committee Report as printed dated May 11, 2011 andaccept the revised window and door packet. All infavor. Motion passed.

CoOwner Forum

Joel Lutz - On behalf of the Court Captain Committee, Joel requested a breakdown of active voters sortedby courts. He said they did not want to know how they voted, but rather who voted so they would know where the active co-owners are. Kathy asked Joe tosee if he could compile that data for Joel.

PRESIDENT’S ANNUAL REPORT

MAY 16, 2011

The purpose of the annual meeting is to announce the results of our election for the Board of

Directors and provide information concerning the state of the association. It is my privilege to give you

an overview of our community.

It is with a great deal of pride and confidence that, on behalf of the board, I thank and congratulate

our staff for their accomplishments during the past year.

Our Maintenance Department’s hard work and continued efforts are evident as you walk around

the property. Ken Wiewiora, our Maintenance Superintendent, and his staff are real assets. Our thanks

to Mike Francis, (Maintenance Supervisor), Ralph Bilicki and Jason Keranen (Building Maintenance), Kevin

Byars (Sprinklers), Darin Flores (Lawn Foreman), Terry Edwards, Robert George, and Kyle Warren (Lawn

crew), Colin Corcoran (Grounds Foreman), Bruce Clisdal and Earl Smith (Grounds crew). In addition to all

their normal duties last summer, they cleared an area for the community garden. Another major

undertaking was the remodeling of the Highland Room. The room is beautiful. I have heard from

residents that this is a room they would be proud to rent.

The Association could not operate efficiently without our outstanding administrative staff. Joe

Poma, thanks so much for all you have done this year. Joe you have worked with RTA getting the roofs

and attics inspected. Also, you were instrumental in getting the chimneys inspected with Dr. Flue to

assure the safety of Highland Lakes. We are now moving into our roofing project with our contractor,

DA Home Improvement. One other thing I can mention is the amount of money saved as the result of

filing liens and lien dismissals. You have handled filing 17 liens and 7 lien dismissals. By having you

do the filing, we have saved a great deal of money. Thank you. Additionally, we are privileged to have

such dedicated workers as Sharon Englund, Shannon Crowley, Guin Eatmon, and Pam Cohen. Every

aspect of our life in Highland Lakes is touched by them.

In each issue of the Herald you are encouraged to join a committee and help with the extra services

and activities which enrich our community.

If one looks around, it is evident that the Clubhouse Committee deserves our gratitude for the

beautification of the clubhouse. They have updated the appearance of the Highland Room with new

walls, chair rails, lighting including beautiful wall sconces, plus many other improvements. In

cooperation with the Family Social Committee, they sponsor the annual Christmas Decorating Party.

This Committee continues to work at keeping our Clubhouse attractive for our use and desirable forrental, which financially assists Highland Lakes.

The Court Captain Committee is very successful and is quite informative about safety ideas for the

community. They have been instrumental in getting the Herald to co-owners in a timely fashion. They

also have made certain that all courts have a representative, and assist in collecting necessary co-owner

information for the office. This committee can be proud of how well they are functioning. In addition

to these responsibilities, they have willingly helped deliver some 691 bylaws packets to the co-owners.




Their assistance is invaluable. We could not have done this without their help and dedication. Thank

you each and every one of you.

We are grateful to the Finance Committee, which continually evaluates our expenditures and assists

the Association in preparing the annual budget and maintaining our fiscal stability. Our Treasurer,

Tom Byrne, will be presenting the Annual Financial Report shortly.

The Grounds Committee is a very dedicated group who takes pride in our surroundings and iscontinually busy ensuring that Highland Lakes remains beautiful. Each spring the Committee members

are out planting beautiful flowers and spending time to maintain these areas. This is not an easy task,

and we applaud this Committee for their contributions since our grounds provide the first impression

when you drive through Highland Lakes.

Many thanks to the Engineering Committee, who give of their expertise and time to ensure that all

improvements and changes are made properly. The Committee continues to update the modification

forms to keep up with changing times. This Committee is doing a great job since our aging Association

requires an ever-increasing number of changes and upgrades.

We are fortunate to have such an active committee as the Family Social Committee. They do a great

job of putting on parties for the families - Halloween, Easter and Highland Days, etc. These are fun

events and are enjoyed by adults as well as the children.

The Herald Committee is doing a stellar job of publishing an improved newsletter that is both

informative and enjoyable. The Herald is the Association’s method of communication with the residents,

and they and the Administrative staff, particularly Shannon Crowley, deserve a great amount of credit

for all their work. The solicitation of advertisements has increased, which contributes to the costs of

publication.

The Pool Committee has done a superb job by recommending improvement to the pool and patioarea. Since the pool was very busy last year, additional furniture was needed. New tables, chairs,

lounges, and toys have been purchased for this summer to ensure our co-owners have a great place to

spend their leisure time in the sun. Your Pool Committee has also scheduled Hot Dog Daze, night

swims, and other events for this summer; so be sure to read your Herald. The Committee also plans to

sponsor the Adult Christmas Party this year.

The Insurance Committee does a great job of overseeing our insurance needs and works diligently

to keep our insurance costs affordable. This year we negotiated a new contract saving thousands of

dollars. The Committee continually publishes articles and insurance information in the Herald to keep

all residents aware of our insurance responsibilities. The Committee requests that all co-owners readthis information to be aware of which portions of insurance covered by the association, and which are

their personal insurance responsibilities.

The Tennis Committee recently met and is planning to offer lessons to youngsters (7-9yrs old) this

summer. Watch the Herald for information.

The Vision Committee has grown in members and is looking forward to the future for making

improvements in Highland Lakes. It is also working with other committees to accomplish these




changes and improvements. The Committee spent a great deal of time accomplishing this and deserves

many thanks from the co-owners. The Committee members were instrumental in picking the roofing

materials and colors for the chimney boxes.

I appointed an Ad Hoc Committee to assist with the bid process for the roofing contractor. I

appreciate all of their time and input.

We have other important committees: RV, Sprinkler, Women’s Club, Card Clubs, etc. Thesecommittees may not be as visible as some of the others, but their contributions are important and should

be applauded.

There are members of the community who assist in projects and activities and who volunteer their

time and expertise for whatever needs to be done. I most likely can’t name everyone, but you know

who you are. Thank you all so much for your volunteerism.

All the people mentioned above spend countless hours doing things to make our lives better. I hope

each of them receives this heartfelt message of appreciation.

Each month you are encouraged to attend the Board meetings to witness the work of the directorsand give suggestions.

Many improvement projects have been completed this year and are very visible. We must

remember that this community is 40 years old, and if we intend to preserve our property values, we

must continue to maintain all of our buildings and grounds so they are attractive to buyers. There are

other improvements that some committees would like to implement, and the Board will continue to

work with them to accomplish these projects while staying within budget and keeping our assessments

affordable.

We would like to invite any co-owner who has an idea for the betterment of Highland Lakes to joina committee or run for the Board.

Our thanks to Joe Sattler, for accepting the position of Inspector of Election this year; he will be

reporting these results shortly.

In conclusion, my thanks and gratitude to my fellow Board members. Without their dedication and

concern for the welfare of this Association, Highland Lakes would not be what it is. The members of the

Board of Directors are your elected representatives who make the decisions that affect our Association

and the services it provides. We invite all co-owners to attend the monthly Board meetings held in the

Clubhouse on the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Bring your concerns, suggestions, andquestions. With open communication, respect, concern, and cooperation, we can continue to improve

Income – New investment in first quarter and we are still overcoming theupfront investment charge. Bonds also were down a little.

Utilities – a relatively mild winter. There was cold weather and snow in April.The watering season lies ahead so we may eat up this surplus.

Property Insurance – again another superlative job of negotiating ourInsurance rates. This surplus will continue for the balance of the budget year.

As you can see, Joe Poma and his staff are operating our business with duefiscal restraint.

COMPOST OR TRASH, AND IMPROPERLY PLACED BUILDING MATERIALS.

Let’s all step-up to keep our community clean, & please report trash violators to the clubhouse.

1. Unit / Building repair: Normal work orders are owing in for roof and basement water leaks. We have

seen an increase of animal complaints of chipmunks getting into the walls, attics, etc. These are beingaddressed when reported. Please spread the word, try not to feed the animals, or leave any type of food

in the back yard areas. Even though many do feed for the nature, this also does attract the nuisance

animals.

2. Pool: The swimming pool mechanical is now open, everything has goon well, and the pool is up to

temperature and will be held to last year’s choice of 84 degrees.

3. Grounds: Grounds cleanup is under way. The lawn crew had a late start mowing this year due to rain;

we are on our second week of mowing. Last week True Green did the weed killer and lawn fertilization.

Also Davey Tree sprayed the crab apple trees. Restoration on dead grass areas will be starting shortly.

4. Tree on building : Two weeks we had a storm take down a 40 foot tall pine tree on to a roof on a condo inEddington court. The tree was removed By Davey Tree Co. and the minor shingle damage was repaired

by my maintenance staff.

1. Member suggested that future clubhouse projects and renovations be removed fromOperating (AC 6540) and returned to Long Term (AC 3020).

2. There was a general discussion regarding the roof, gutter (etc.) replacement. Thecommittee would like to review the contract of Phase I, even if preliminary.

3. A member voiced concern over the nancial and fragile monetary situation worldwide.Earlier this year, the committee recommended to the board that we favor Certicate ofDeposits (CDs) based on:

a. The amount invested is guaranteed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.b. There are no fees or commissions

c. There is no additional time spent on the account and no consequences fromdecisions.

The board did not agree and we realize the current rates on CDs are less than 1% and wouldnot generate much income. However the committee opted for security and protection ofthe co-owner’s funds.

RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE BOARD:

That the committee be provided a copy of the roong contract with DA Home Improvement for review.

HIGHLAND LAKES COMMITTEE REPORTCOMMITTEE: Vision MEETING DATE: April 26, 2011

SUBJECTS DISCUSSED:

A. Rob Berlin distributed drawings of entry doors as discussed at the last meeting. Rob statedthat he would go to the Engineering Committee meeting with the recommendations.

B. The Grounds Committee requested that the Vision Committee design an entrance andsign for the Russ Fogg Dr. It was noted that there is no money available for this sign and

entrance design but plans and costs estimates can be established so the project can moveforward when money is available. It was also noted that a berm will be designed for theunits overlooking the RV lot. The committee also discussed that they would like to partnerwith the Grounds Committee and the Engineering Committee on future decisions relatingto our Master Plan.

C. The committee discussed perhaps meeting every other month. However, meetings can becalled when issues must be discussed.

SUBJECTS DISCUSSED:1. This initial meeting of the tennis committee was formed mainly of HLCA tennis players who

have an interest in the usage of the courts.

2. It was suggested by Bruce that we have a sign-up sheet for adult HLCA members that areinterested in playing singles or doubles. This sign-up sheet will be in the clubhouse ofce toprovide names, phone numbers, etc. of those looking for a game of tennis.

3. Also discussed was beginners tennis lessons for 7-10 year old children of HLCA owners to be

offered Tues. & Wed. mornings in June (21/22 & 28/29) and for July (12/13 & 19/20). Cost of$10 (4 days), $15 (6 days), or $20 (8 days) will include a racquet & balls for each player. Sign-upsheet will be in clubhouse ofce. Lessons will be run by Carol Shields.

4. Also mentioned was the issue of grass clippings and dirt being blown onto the courts wheneverthe grass is mowed, sometimes when players are on the courts. The guys with blowers cannotget onto the courts when they are locked.

5. Two large cracks on the tennis courts are in need of repair before they become a tripping hazard

6. Concern was expressed of non-co-owners coming on the courts when co-owners are playing.A lock that could be used either inside or outside would keep those out that do not have keys.

Another concern is not having a key when you want to play, sometimes before the ofce opensor after it closes or more than once a day –it is very inconvenient for players that use the courtsa lot. Could there be a key checkout list and more keys available.

1. THANK YOU: The Clubhouse Committee would like to extend our collective thanks andappreciation to Highland Lakes resident Sally Rigo who helps maintain the Clubhouse Kitchen onan ongoing basis and recently cleaned and organized it thoroughly. Sally’s effort is a wonderfulexample of how much difference one person can make. Thank you, Sally!

2. CLUBHOUSE MAINTENANCE: It was suggested to the Clubhouse Committee to re-paint theHallway which extends from the back entrance to the Kitchen as well as improve the décor of theBilliard Room. The Committee recognized these comments and will take them into considerationwhen making recommendations for future renovations. A sub-committee was established tobegin researching paint colors for the other areas in the Clubhouse that will complement thecolors in the Highland Room.

3. HIGHLAND ROOM RENOVATION: The Committee was thrilled to have their frst meeting inthe Highland Room since the beginning of its renovations earlier this year. There is more workto be done, however. The Committee has selected the color and style of cabinetry and countertopthey would like to install against the East wall. The next step is to obtain an estimate of the costfor budget request purposes.

4. HANGING PICTURES: Several of the framed pictures that were hanging in the Highland Roombefore the renovations have been relocated or returned to the artist who loaned them. RaydaWarren and Myra Santoni will schedule time with Maintenance to hang three pictures on theWest wall.

HIGHLAND LAKES COMMITTEE REPORTCOMMITTEE: Grounds MEETING DATE: May 3, 2011

SUBJECTS DISCUSSED:

1. Planting Schedule:

Members volunteered to plant in various ower beds throughout our community. It was decidedto plant pink and red begonias throughout all ower beds for continuity. Planting will begin afterthe danger of frost is gone.

2. New business: A. Robert Armstrong will plant ornamental grass around the water fountain utility box on

Crystal Lake.

B. It was decided to recommend the removal of the concrete slab at the north end of theclubhouse to the Board. The concrete will be removed in house. Grass will be seeded inthe area and wood chips will be placed around the tree.

C. As a group we had a discussion about the landscaping berm area at the east end of theRV lot. Residents in that area were surveyed. They would like some fast growing r treesplanted instead of a fence. Plymouth Nursery was called in to make a bid on the project. Joe Poma will bring Bid information to next month’s meeting and the Grounds memberswill take a vote on it.

D. A discussion was held as to whether we need to create a boat rack on Crystal Lake. It wasdecided that since there are fewer than 7 boats, no boat rack was needed. Owners withboats that are on the grass will be contacted. All boats must have a current year sticker by June 1st. The stickers are only $5 for the year. If a boat gets conscated due to no sticker,it will cost the owner $75 to reclaim it.

3. Other business:

Maureen Osiecki brought up the subject of a sign at the entrance of Russ Fogg Drive. She asked ifa plan for the sign would be accepted from the Vision Committee by the Grounds Committee. TheGrounds Committee agreed to receive the plan and study it for future consideration.

RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE BOARD:Removal of the concrete slab at the north end of the clubhouse and grass seed be planted in the area.Mulch would be placed around the tree.

1. The meeting began at 7:00 P.M. The evening started with discussion regarding children playingin the parking lots and whether or not we should attempt to discourage this potential dangerousactivity. We will address this further at a later date.

2. Not enough votes for the new by-laws were received by the due date and the Board of Directors willbe sending out another letter to residents encouraging them to vote. Robert suggested a “Town HallMeeting” forum might be a way to increase awareness. Kathy informed us that once the pool opensshe will address the issue with residents that are in attendance.

3. Diane Pittaway mentioned that she is behind with her new resident “Welcome” interviews due toscheduling and bad weather. She will have new info ready for the next issue of the “Herald”

4. Robert shared an article from the Northville Record regarding a parking incident that required policeinvolvement recently. Parking issues are one of the main reasons for contention among residents.We will be examining this looking for solutions that work for everyone.

5. Kathy Baldwin brought an 18 gallon bucket to the meeting that will be used for a “pilot” programin our dumpsters in an attempt to clean up loose trash, pet waste, etc. it will be placed inside the

dumpster, suspended in a corner. It will have drainage holes to prevent water retention. Promotionof this program will be in the next “Herald”. Several courts will be selected for the initial trial to seeif this will work.

6. It was noted that Northville Twp. Has a pet leash ordinance. Many pet owners do not follow theordinance. Residents are encouraged to keep their pets on leashes for everyone’s benet.

The committee met with new head lifeguard, Lauren Duda and returning lifeguard, LindsayP’Simer.

The committee purchased an umbrella for the Baby Pool which will be put in the cornerand provide enough shade to cover almost the entire pool. This will be more sturdy than

previous umbrellas purchased.

This year there will be a notice posted for no beach balls and no footballs in the pool. Joy isshopping for safe toy ideas. Additional noodles have been purchased.

Our new boiler is installed and will keep the pool between 84°-86°. It has been tested and isworking very well. It will cost less to operate than the old boiler and heats the pool faster. Itwill automatically shut off at 85° so the pool doesn't get too hot.

The Committee discussed offering water aerobics in the mornings on Mondays, Wednesdaysand Fridays. The committee is working with the property manager to have one of thelifeguards certied to conduct the sessions. Further information will be posted in theclubhouse.

Swim lessons will be beginning around the second week of June. Tuesdays and Thursdaysat 11a-12p. Head lifeguard, Lauren Duda, will conduct the lessons. Please sign up at theclubhouse.

Joe Poma will talk to Grounds Committee regarding owers around the pool.

The pool opening party is scheduled for Sunday, May 29th at 4:00p. Everyone is invited andplease bring a dish to pass for 6-8 people.

Hot Dog Daze is Saturday, June 18th from Noon - 3:00p. The pool committee welcomesanyone who would like to volunteer their time to help.

We are all encouraged to pick upand dispose of any trash we may

see littering the community grounds. Generally

speaking, this is the considerate thing to do to maintain

our property. However, there is one BIG EXCEPTION.

If you see a bottle of any kind in a standing position, do NoT Touch. It has been reported

by the police that individuals using common household chemicals are creating “bottle bombs.”

When the bottles are picked up or shaken, the chemicals mix and cause explosive conditions.

If you see a bottle sitting on the sidewalk or grass in an upright position and it looks “out of place,” or you have any doubts at all, call the police. They’ll check it out. Of course, alert your

children to the possible danger of picking up any stray bottles.

On another note, Northville Township has a survey concerning the development of the Seven

Mile property at the site of the former Northville Psychiatric Hospital. Simply go online to

www.twp.northville.mi.us on click on 7 Mile Property Master Plan Survey and vote your

opinions on how the land should be developed. I took the survey and found it very interesting.

The questions are multiple choice and there is a place where you can enter comments if you

wish. At the end of the survey, you’re given a chance to enter a drawing to win a $50.00 gift

certifcate to Deadwood Grill.
