VICTORIAVICTOR
Mansfield Shire is situated 180kms north east of Melbourne and is home to Victoria’s famous High Country, Mount Buller and Mount Stirling alpine resorts, and the second largest inland waterway in Australia - Lake Eildon.
Tourism, farming and especially lifestyle living are intrinsic elements that attract people to visit, live, work and invest in Mansfield Shire. The economy is supported by significant retail and service sectors. Beautiful rural vistas, vast tracts of high country, alpine resorts, lakes and rivers contribute to a heady mix of destinations and adventure activities which have helped to position Mansfield Shire as a nationally acclaimed tourism destination of international significance.Mansfield, as a major service centre for the shire, is central to many unique towns and villages. The development of the shire owes much to locations such as Goughs Bay, Jamieson, Tolmie, Kevington, Woods Point, Bonnie Doon, Merton and Merrijig. The township of Mansfield was first surveyed in 1851 following the squatting boom of the late 1830s and the establishment of large runs for grazing stock. The Alpine resort areas of Mount Buller and Mount Stirling are wholly surrounded by, but excluded from, the municipal district. A significant proportion of the municipality is Crown Land.Pull up a stool. Draw nearer the campfire. We’ve tales to tell, yarns to spin, stories to thrill you with, because here in the High Country is where legends ride. It was
along the rivers that Beolite, the Aboriginal chieftain, once ruled his clan. It was on the high plains that cattlemen and women and their horses once ruled, carving out homesteads in uncompromising terrain, braving the baking heat of summer, enduring the snowdrifts of winter and inspiring tales that would be told for generations. Wherever you go in the High Country, you’re sure to come across a tale or two. It’s something about the vastness of the starry night skies or the crispness of the air.Whatever it is, it’s the reason why riders still seek out the old High Country huts. Why artists and writers come to soak up the atmosphere. Why cyclists, dirt bikers, skiers and 4 wheel drivers are drawn to the mountain tops, rivers and high plains. Why visitors come back again and again, experiencing adventures of their own making.

VICTORIAVICTORMurrindindi ShireLush green valleys and forests of soaring Mountain Ash, Murrindindi is not so much a region as a lifestyle.
Welcoming towns and villages nestle in a landscape of mountains, forests, lakes and sparkling streams, and fertile farmlands supply a never-ending supply of natural produce. It’s a place to relax and unwind, indulge in treasured pastimes and seek out new adventures.Wander through magnificent forests to picnic beside fern gullies and cascading waterfalls, cast a line in search of fresh trout for dinner, or sample the mouth-watering delights of local berry farms, orchards and vineyards.Water ski on the waters of Lake Eildon, take to the snow-covered slopes of Lake Mountain in winter or hike to the peaks of the Cathedral Range for breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside. Explore arts and culture at artist studios and craft galleries, and gain a glimpse into the past at fascinating historic attractions.Murrindindi’s towns share a feeling of community and warm hospitality yet each has its own special style. With its magical mountain setting, elegant guesthouses and spectacular Steavenson Falls, Marysville has long been a holiday favourite for Victorians.Further north, past the imposing ramparts of the Cathedral Range, is the heritage charm of Alexandra, the gateway to Lake Eildon. Towns such as Yea, Kinglake and Eildon are encircled by parks, scenic reserves and rich farmlands, with unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreation and a tantalising array of local produce.Whether you’re looking to relax on a houseboat casting a line, enjoy trail rides, bush walks and exciting water sports in beautiful natural settings or sample quality gourmet produce and discover local arts and crafts, Lake Eildon offers the chance to experience it all. With over 500kms of shoreline, sheltered bays and safe swimming beaches, Lake Eildon is Victoria’s largest inland lake. Its vast tranquil waters boasts a popular aquatic playground perfect for canoeing, kayaking and sail boarding. You can water ski further than the distance between Melbourne and Geelong, so if you like skiing Lake Eildon will not disappoint. The region is an angler’s paradise, with both Lake Eildon and its surrounding rivers - the Howqua, Goulburn, Rubicon, Acheron and Big - containing an abundance of brown and rainbow trout, Murray cod and golden perch. Walking trails in Lake Eildon National Park lead through native forest and bush land to panoramic views and tranquil campgrounds. Elsewhere, horse-riding trails and hiking tracks wind through tall forests and scenic river valleys.
Strathbogie Ranges RegionSet within the eternal landscape of rugged hills, spectacular vistas and rocky outcrops, forests, waterfalls and ferny glades is the spectacular countryside of the Strathbogie Ranges Region.
The Strathbogie Ranges is preserved in the quaint towns and villages with historic buildings and heritage trails, in the rustic homesteads, cottages and rural outbuildings, and in the natural beauty of the land itself - ancient, mystical and uniquely Australian. Once the domain of the bushrangers, goldminers and loggers, the ranges became a major wool growing area, pioneered by the legendary Eliza Forlonge. In recent times the area has gained recognition as premier horse-breeding country, home to several top thoroughbred stud farms and many other equine establishments. The region is also renowned for its abundance of native wildlife - koalas, kangaroos, echidnas and wombats - that can be observed at close quarters in their natural habitat.Enclosed within its rugged hills you’ll find timeless sunsets, lazy weekend drives and long lunches that capture the mood of the proud terrain.
EUROAJust 90 minutes from Melbourne lies the rural township of Euroa with its historic buildings set amongst the Seven Creeks. Euroa, with a population of over 3,000, is well supported by health services, educational institutions, retail outlets and industry. The town has a number of significant heritage buildings and the famous National Australia Bank that Ned Kelly robbed during his bushranging days proudly stands at the head of the shopping precinct. Euroa is renowned for a number of special events throughout the year such as Show n’ Shine, Wool Week, the Black Buckle Rodeo and the Euroa Cup. Euroa is a small rural town with a big heart that provides essential services to the greater surrounding area.

Not to be left out are the smaller boutique wineries that are enjoying recognition on a national scale. With its mild, sunny climate the region is increasingly utilising its wealth of local produce. Tomatoes, olives and a huge variety of fruit are grown locally and inspire great eating experiences at various restaurants, pubs and cafes.
NAGAMBIENagambie lies just 90 minutes down the Hume Highway placed on the foreshore of the great Nagambie Lakes. The town has attracted a number of high profile national events to its Regatta Centre, which is a world class rowing venue. AVENELAlongside the Hume Freeway, near Mangalore Airport and not far from Nagambie, Avenel is a growing township just over an hour from Melbourne. It is home to antique dealers and good food establishments as well as various horse studs. Ned Kelly lived in Avenel from the age of 4 and it is where he saved a young boy from drowning in the creek. His father, Red Kelly, is buried in the town graveyard and there are many Ned Kelly sites which are well sign-posted. On the other side of the Hume Freeway is the Avenel Maze, one of Victoria’s finest hedge mazes and a number of wineries.
VIOLET TOWN Violet Town boasts a very active community. Violet Town still retains a rural outlook while having a blend of old and new residences throughout its streetscape. The Violet Town Market has grown from humble beginnings to a very substantial event held on the second Saturday of every month, 8.30am - 1pm, bringing vendors and visitors from throughout Victoria.
LONGWOOD The township of Longwood is famous for its popular hotel that brings people from near and far. This peaceful rural area with a variety of residential properties has seen quite significant growth in recent times and is now a very active community.
