Background and HIA’s aims

This pilot experience is part of a wider research project aimed at:• promoting HIA implementation and development in Andalusia• adapt HIA-related tools and procedures to the local context • to familiarise engaged professionals/decision makers with HIA basic concepts and

methods• “learning by doing” approach

HIA of re-development project of San Fernando St. (Alcalá de Guadaíra –Seville)

For this end proposed Design and implementation of a rapid & propective HIA local level

Specific aims of this HIA were to:•Identify potential impacts of the project on the health of neighbors and their differential distribution in especially vulnerable groups.•Make recommendations to minimize the potential negatives and maximize the potential positives.•Contribute to the axis of social participation of URBAN plan trough the mobilization of local residents.•Pilot EIS processes and tools adapted to local / municipal context.

•Emerged as an informal settlement (50’s-60’s).

• Irregular layout (narrow & step streets).

•Self-Made Houses. Low Quality Houses.

•Inadequate living conditions sanitary facilities nonexistent or poorly

resolved.

people has no title deeds).

Inhabitants: 813 hab. (Alcalá: 68.452 hab.) (2007).

% single-parent homes and older people living alone.

% low education level(69,2%).

% manual & temporary workers.

Unemployment rate: almost 20% (2001).

Process of depopulation.
