Some innovations are meant to change the world, in art, technology and medicine. hospital at home is the web-based telemedicine system conceived for the care of patients who are not in life-threatening condition. It guarantees continuous, round-the-clock monitoring of medical parameters directly at home. The occasional measurement of these parameters does not always give a clear and reliable picture of the patient’s condition. hospital at home allows constant measurement, thus providing unequivocal data on the evolution of the medical condition. Indeed, video communication ensures interaction between caregivers and patients by moving data and not people. The result is a substantial increase in the rate of dehospitalisation, with enormous advantages for the Health Service in terms of costs, time and quality of the services offered.

The hospital at home system is made up of a home device – of the same size as a bed stand – and a Service Centre Module: the monitoring station through which the caregiver monitors patients from a remote location. The two instruments are interconnected via Internet, allowing data to be exchanged in real time, conveniently and safely. In this manner, thanks to a thoroughly user-friendly interface, the healthcare personnel can access, with few hand movements, the patient data page and immediately view the fundamental remote monitoring parameters.

The Service Centre module comprises all the functions required for assistance in a telemedicine system: monitoring of physiological parameters; activation of the equipment provided with the device; management of the case sheet; video communication with the patient; viewing and management of alarms; communication with other caregivers; management of the electro-medical equipment provided (home oxygen therapy and vacuum therapy).
