LOVE In the Name of ChristLOVE INC is the primary partner for FPC in assisting people who walk through our doors with a physical need.Due to the continued lack of volunteers in the Clearinghouse, we have been forced to reduce the Clearinghouse to two days a week. Effective immediately the Love INC Clearinghouse will only be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:30a -1:00p. We desperately need volunteers to fill this urgent need. You provide a willing heart; we provide the training. Clearinghouse volunteers answer phone calls from people in need, listen with a caring heart, and collect the necessary information from them to be able to determine how to best help them. SERMON SERIESCONTINUING FALL SERMON SERIES:“KINGDOM LIVING: DEEPER DISCIPLESHIP”THEME VERSE: “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:18-19)

First and foremost, we are in the business of making disciples of Jesus. Since the time of the Resurrection, this has been the clear mission of the Christian Church. Along the way, however, we have sometimes veered off course. In fact, as various movements and fads have come and gone, we would be hard pressed to articulate how exactly certain efforts and programs align with what Jesus commands of us. Even in our efforts to be missional, loving and serving our neighbors in the world, we sometimes leave out this central purpose for which we were created. The reality is that without discipleship, we are just another community service club.

During this sermon series, we will explore the question, “How do we make disciples?” The short answer is: If we want to make disciples, we need to BE disciples! Along the journey, we will acquire new tools of discipleship as we strive to grow in our awareness of, and reliance upon, God. Accompanying this series will be a small group/discipleship group study guide. Everyone in the congregation is encouraged to work through the weekly guide with a friend, spouse, or in their respective small group or discipleship group.

As we go out into our respective lives, we do so following the Lord and Savior! Following Jesus necessitates that you are connected and in community, accountable to and challenging your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to grow in intimacy and communion with God! In short, we must all be growing together! Join us this fall as we delve into “Deeper Discipleship.”

OCTOBER 20RHYTHM OF LIFESermon Text: Mark 6:30-32 (Genesis 2:1-2)

THE NEXT SERMON SERIES:“KINGDOM LIVING: DEEPER TREASURE”THEME VERSE: “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” (Matthew 13:44)

From the introduction of The Treasure Principle:“All your life, you’ve been on a treasure hunt. You’ve been searching for a perfect person and a perfect place. Jesus is that person; heaven is that place. So, if you’re a Christian, you’ve already met the person, and you’ve already headed to the place.

But there’s a problem. You’re not yet living with that person, and you’re not yet living in that place! You may attend church regularly, pray, and read the Bible. But life can still be drudgery, can’t it? You dutifully put one foot in front of the other, plodding across the hot, barren ground, longing for a joy you cannot find, a treasure that alludes you. Jesus told a story like that. It’s about a hidden treasure that, once discovered brings life changing joy.”

In this sermon series, we will explore four of the Treasure Principle Keys offered in Randy Alcorn’s The Treasure Principle.

PASTOR JACK

Pastor Jack

Dear Church Family,

“Come, follow me…and I will send you out to fish for people.” (Matthew 4:19)

With this invitation, Jesus extends His hand to you. His desire is that you take it.

As you take it, He wants you to talk with Him. He wants to hear your joys. What’s going good? What are you proud of? He wants to celebrate and laugh with you. He also wants to hear your concerns and frustrations. What are you mourning? What are your disappointments? Nothing is too big or small. Don’t hold anything back. He’s got all the time in the world. He wants you to feel His presence and know He is with you every waking and sleeping moment of every single day. Even when you are totally and utterly convinced that you are alone and helpless, the hand is forever extended…waiting. Come, follow me.

As you take it, He wants you to walk with Him. He wants you to follow in His footsteps and be a disciple “in motion.” He wants you to live out your faith and to give evidence of that faith through the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. He wants you to demonstrate the love you have for Him through the love you offer to others. He wants you to offer kind words to each person you meet. It doesn’t matter who it is and what their background is. More importantly, He wants you to be His incarnational (the hands and feet of Jesus) presence in their life. Even when you have been emotionally wounded or verbally attacked and the last thing you want to do is “turn your cheek,” the hand is forever extended…waiting. Come, follow me.

Once you take His hand (as you begin talking and walking with Him), He sends you out to interact with people. Every person you encounter, whether family, friend, or complete stranger is a potential “fish” in need of being “caught.” Please do not misunderstand. It’s not your task to convince or win other people over. Jesus is not a product to be “sold” or “peddled.” Your task is to cast the line by talking and walking with Him. Your life, what you say and do, is a powerful witness that invites “nibbling.” It’s Jesus who does the actual catching. Even when you feel completely inadequate and under-qualified, the hand is forever extended…waiting. Come, follow me…and I will send you out to fish for people.

God is calling you into a deeper relationship. He desires your trust and obedience because He wants you to experience His love and peace. Once you do, your life will be forever changed.

Will you take Jesus’ hand and go fishing?

Living and loving for Him,

6

And remember, it is a message to obey, not just to listen to. If you don’t obey, you are only fooling yourself. James 1:22

But if you keep looking steadily into God’s perfect law -- the law that sets you free -- and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James 1:25

“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit - but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock. “But if you just use My words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.” Matthew 7:24-27 (Msg)

It is much easier to study the Word of God in a Bible class, to talk about what the Word requires of us, and to memorize Scripture, but what is much harder is to live out the Word of God in our day to day lives. We deceive ourselves when we read the Bible or hear the Word taught and do not do it. Daily Bible reading and regular church attendance are not the main things that Jesus has called us to do. Rather it is hearing the Word of God and then obeying by putting it to practical use.

Hearing the Word of God is about our individual spiritual growth and maturity. Doing the Word of God is about our personal ministry and how we act in our homes, the workplace, the grocery store and all the places we have been planted. If we focus on hearing His Word, but fail to pursue the mission of living that Word out in our day to day lives, we lack the impact Jesus calls us to have in this world. If we focus on the ministry but fail to remain in relationship with God through prayer and study of His Word we lack His power.

Hearing and doing the Word of God must be inseparable in our lives. We must be people who hear, read and rest in the Scriptures. We must be a people who view the world through all the possibility of the Kingdom and are transformed ourselves with grace, peace and love. And, we must be a people who recognize that our every day lives are the richest mission field. We must be a people who regularly listen to the voice of our Father and then go to do the very things that Jesus did...

Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons... Matthew 10:6-8 (Msg)

Scripture is accessible to us and we are allowed great opportunity to meditate on God’s Word. We have the Bible in our homes, on our smart phones and iPads, and a multitude of devotions we can choose from to encourage us. As we spend time with our Father pray for the insight of the Holy Spirit to make plain the ways of His Kingdom, meditate on His Word, pray it and then go out to do the things Jesus did.

PRESCHOOL

Rhonda

We have both wall and pocket calendars, Christmas cards and all-occasions greeting cards available. Don’t wait too long to pick yours up as we sold out last year. Each calendar and card set is just $6 and can be purchased in the main church office or at the Connection Center on Sundays.

You purchase helps to support our outreach mission to the community and enables us to continue to provide an excellent preschool experience that is Christ-centered. Thank you for your support!

2014 SCRIPTURE CALENDARS ARE COMING THIS MONTH!

THE MINISTRY OF PRESENCE

It is easy to overlook the idea that being physically present is an important ministry to people. As the Holy Spirit reminds us that God the Father is sitting on the throne, we are reminded of our own security in His power and authority. Likewise, we want to say thank you to our volunteer men. Particularly to Marcello Gambito, who volunteers two days a week as grounds security. His presence is giving us a wonderful peace of mind, just knowing someone is watching out. Marcello volunteers here on Tuesday and Thursday mornings after dropping his grandson off for preschool. He patrols the buildings and grounds. We need more volunteers to help us; not just for the preschool but for all the morning activities that go on here during the week. Are you available? Would you like to help? Please give Rhonda Cardona (248-7940, ext. 119) or Harold Cook (985-5938) a call and we will get you set up! Thank you to all of our security patrol volunteers for Sundays, VBS and now Preschool! God Bless You!

Your love is restoring homes and lives… Ruben and Bertha’s home will be painted.

Cristo Vive Restoration is making a difference. Bertha and Ruben are excited to see all the prep work that will climax with a home nicely painted. Join us as will celebrate with a bar-b-q once we finish. We have been redoing window sills and frames, securing loose siding, filling cracks and getting Bertha’s home ready to receive a new look. Your support to our ministry allows to show God’s love in a very practical way. Praise God!

Praises for a wonderful Family Camp at GhormleyOur families enjoyed a great family time at Ghormley as we centered on Unity to Stand Firm. 27 people showed up from age ranges of 1 to 60+ to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and the great food both spiritually and physically. Thank you God for Ghormley and thank you for the Presbytery that allowed us to sponsor families to attend camp.
