Peer Support Recognition This year North Kellyville Public School students participated in a Peer Support program which aimed to develop social and emotional wellbeing as well as establish positive peer relationships throughout the school. Peer Support Australia has featured our school in their recent newsletter, linked here. Thank you to Mrs Smallacombe for her coordination of Peer Support in 2019. Updated Hills Bus Timetable Hills Bus has updated their school service timetable for North Kellyville Public School. Their latest advice is now located on our school website here. NAPLAN Results On Monday, students in Years 3 and 5 will receive a report detailing their results in this year’s National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). If you require any assistance in reading your child’s NAPLAN report please consult with his/her class teacher. Please remember that NAPLAN measures only a very narrow component of what students know and can do and fails to capture a student’s success across the full scope of the primary school experience. While it will provide some useful information about each child’s performance under test conditions in aspects of literacy and numeracy, it will not tell you about their social competence, love of learning, participation in extra-curricular groups, resilience, citizenship, commitment to personal responsibility and many other notable outcomes of primary schooling. Trivia Night September 28 Momentum is building nicely for the P&C’s trivia night, held on Saturday 28 September in the school hall. The staff team is primed, Trivial Pursuit has been played during lunch breaks, and Quiz Up installed on all staff phones. Don’t miss your chance to join in the fun! Visit the P&C section of School Stream for more information. Education Week Video Earlier in the term we celebrated public education week. The theme for this year was Every Student Every Voice. A brief video was produced where we heard from a range of students about how their voices are used to make the school a better place. The video now appears on our website, here. PRINCIPAL’S NEWS

Years 4-6 Collaroy Camp

Students returned from the inaugural North Kellyville Public School camp this afternoon tired from a week of recreational challenge and physical wellbeing activities. Despite the wet, they participated in many adventures and formed positive memories. I’d like to acknowledge the staff members who attended. Miss McGill, Mr Bondfield, Mr Janes, Mr Southwell, Mrs Smallacombe and Miss Brighton committed 72 straight hours to being ‘on duty’ without a cent of overtime being paid or workload compensation made. Opportunities such as school camps can only occur when staff members are willing to go above and beyond. Thank you!

Staff Changes

It is with mixed emotions that I report Desiree Jenkins’ successful application for the position of Relieving Assistant Principal at Seven Hills West Public School. Ms Jenkins will take up this ‘loan’ position next week and continue at Seven Hills West until the end of the year. We will miss her energy and expertise. Replacing Ms Jenkins teaching K-6J will be Grace McGuiness (M, T, W) and Carmen Bolst (Th, F). Both Miss McGuiness and Mrs Bolst are outstanding teachers committed to maintaining the wonderful learning environment and programs already established in K-6J. In Term 4, Emily Yates (KY) will commence in the role of English as a Second Language / Dialect teacher for two days each week. Miss Yates has been targeted for this role due to her passion for equity and her capacity to work with students of all ages throughout the school. Miss Yates will retain classroom teacher responsibilities for KY (M, Th, F) but will be joined by Sarah Polito who will also teach KY (T, W). We welcome Miss Polito to North Kellyville.

Holiday Safety & Security

Throughout the holiday, we ask for your support in keeping our site secure. There will be vacation care and some contractors on site, but if you notice anything unusual particularly in the form of vandalism, I encourage you to contact School Security 24 hours on 1300 88 00 21 and to email me at [email protected]. I wish everybody good health over the holiday period so that you can enjoy time with family and friends. We are looking forward to seeing everybody rested and re-charged on Monday October 14. Art Exhibition

Next Monday and Tuesday afternoons/evenings we will be holding a spectacular art exhibition featuring work from students throughout the school. Mrs Apap and Mrs Ghafauri, our Creative Arts teachers, have been working hard to make the exhibition a spectacular showcase of our students’ skill and creativity. We would love as many visitors through the gallery as possible. Feel free to bring friends and family! Cash donations will be accepted at the door to support further creative arts initiatives.

Before & After School Care Next Week

Please note that after school care on Monday and Tuesday, and before school care on Tuesday will take place on the Kindergarten maker-space area. Follow signs to the Kindergarten area of the school to drop off / pick up your child/ren. Tom Moth Principal

Performing Arts Update

On Tuesday 24 September the 3-6 dance group and the 3-6 choir are performing at the Rouse Hill High Music, Art, Dance and Drama Performance Night. The performance will take place at Rouse Hill High School and start at 7pm in the hall. Friends and family can find the information to purchase tickets on School Stream. Parents of students in these groups are asked to go to School Stream and complete the permission form as soon as possible. It will be parents’ responsibility to organise transport for their child/ren to and from the evening performance. We look forward to seeing you there for another fantastic night enjoying the creative arts.

Mrs Izzard’s Nepal Trip – Seeking Your Help!

I (Mrs Izzard) have visited Nepal as a volunteer for the last eight years and will be heading back again these coming holidays. I will be part of a team working with two Nepali Non-Government Organisations who assist disadvantaged children and those vulnerable to exploitation. In the link below you can see the many different ways just a small amount of money and support can assist. One specific need I thought our North Kellyville community could get behind is to raise funds for a young girl who suffers from a nervous system disorder and requires a wheelchair. This wheelchair would enable her to get to and from school more freely and for her to have some independence with her movements. If you would like to support this specific initiative please donate via the link provided below. Every dollar donated will be matched dollar for dollar. We appreciate any support that you can provide. If we achieve this goal, the remainder of the funds will go towards projects such as toilets, fencing, bricks for building a kitchen and other projects mentioned in the link. If you choose to donate you can remain anonymous or leave your name. I would encourage you to leave a short message and end with #wheelchair #NKPS. This way we can track all the proceeds from our school community and report back our NKPS community achievement. We are very blessed at North Kellyville with state-of-the-art facilities and this is a great opportunity to give back to those less fortunate. For more information, please feel free to see me, or follow the The Badi Project on Facebook, which shows what we have achieved and what we are striving for. Thanks in advance for any support small or large - every bit will go a long way! https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-kids-of-nepal-need-your-help

Note from Mr Moth: Mrs Izzard’s initiative is a personal one and parents are not in any way expected to contribute. Providing an overview of her mission is for your interest only. I am supportive of Mrs Izzard’s travel.

Borrowing

All students are now able to borrow one book each week but don’t forget to bring a library bag! There have been some timetabling changes this term so please make a note of your child’s library day.

Monday KD, KK, 2/1A, 2/1I, 4/3E

Tuesday KC, 2/1H, 4/3B, 6J

Thursday KT, 2/1N, 5S

Friday K/6B, K/6J, K/6L, KY, KP, 4/3J

Book Club

Book Club will resume next term with issues 7 and 8. Reading Hour

Many classes participated in Australian Reading Hour yesterday which is an initiative designed to remind Australians to take the time to learn, escape and relax! In children, reading has been shown to help with identity formation, setting them up for success in the future. In adults, reading has been shown to reduce stress by 68% more than listening to music, going for a walk, or having a cup of tea.
