Family Fruit and Vegetable

Sculpture competition The Kitchen Garden committee would like to invite all families to create an artistic sculpture or platter made entirely of Fruit and Vegetables, to enter into our competition. How to enter:

1. Create your sculpture or platter at home (Hint: coat fruit in lemon juice - it will help to keep it fresh and not discolour).

2. Bring it to school on the day of the Art Show OR bring it to the Art Show itself.

3. Fill in an entry form and pay a $2 entry fee. Forms available from the front office or the display table outside the gym.

The sculptures and platters will be on display throughout the Art Show, and will be judged by Alison Saunders, Suyin McDonald and Margie Sarre. Prizes will be awarded for the best sculptures!

Come and visit the kitchen to see some early creations to give you inspiration.

We’d love to see lots of fruit and veg artwork, so…

Will YOU take up the challenge? :-) (Please collect your sculpture at the end of the Art Show otherwise it will be donated to compost )

We are looking for members of our school community who might be willing to donate items of artwork towards our Art Show. We know there are so many talented artists out there and we’d love your support! These artworks will be dis-played in the middle of the gymnasium, and will be able to be purchased by silent auction. This means that if you like an artwork displayed, you simply find the silent auction sheet accompanying the artwork, and make an offer. Your offer holds until another person places a higher offer than yours. The highest bid on each item at 7.30 pm is the winner! This is a great opportunity to purchase excellent quality artwork at a bargain price. Last Art Show a number of students purchased items with their pocket money and were really pleased to have a piece of art for their bedroom wall, or to give as a gift for Christmas. We are accepting all student and community artwork including drawings, photos and paint-ings (framed or unframed), jewelry, sculpture and other handmade artifacts. You can also donate artworks you have at home from another artist you may be willing to part with. To donate a piece of artwork, please bring it to the front office

between now and Thursday November 3rd and complete an information card we can attach to the artwork.

Thank you so much!

COMMUNITY ART SALE

Raffle and second –hand book sale We are asking school families to have a browse around at home and see whether you have anything you might

be able to donate to our raffle (organised by the Fundraising Forum) and our second-hand book sale. We would

be very grateful for any donations received! Donations can be left at the front office between now and

Thursday morning of week 3 (November 3rd).

Littlehampton Primary School ART SHOW

Our Major Community Event of the Year

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4th

2.30 - 8pm

On Friday afternoon and evening November 4th the school is holding its third Art Show…bigger and better than ever. We are all really excited about this event which will showcase all students’ artwork and will help us to appreciate the development of students’ artistic skills from Reception to Year 7 at our school. We have come to truly celebrate this event, which brings us together as a community, celebrates our wonderful Art program, and also raises funds to support our Kitchen Garden Program.

The purpose of this booklet is to let you know the format of the event, and the various ways you can take part.

Student Artwork

All student artwork– paintings, drawings, pottery, and 3D works- will be displayed in the gymnasium. We are asking families to make a ‘donation’ for their child’s Artwork, of at least $5 per child. This donation supports our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, which is so highly valued by the whole school community. When you make a donation, your child will receive a red dot sticker which they can stick on their artwork (just like in professional exhibitions), and in the weeks after the exhibition they will be given it to take home, including the frame (for 2D items). We really appreciate the goodwill and generosity shown by children and their families in past art shows; it is wonderful to be part of such a supportive community.

Community Art Silent Auction

While you are admiring the students’ artwork, you might like to put a bid on a piece of community art, on sale in the gym by silent auction. Information on how to donate towards this initiative is found in this booklet.

Food and Drink

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden committee and volunteers are making delicious homemade burgers to sell on the evening for $5 each (veggie burgers and gluten free options also available). Wine, beer, fruit boxes will be available for purchase, and there will also be a limited number of soft drinks for adults. You can buy a sensational coffee from the Gore family and a homemade cake, slice or biscuit to go along with it from our Community Bake Sale. There will be tables set up in and around our beautiful school garden to enjoy this fine fare. We pride ourselves on high quality food at our events so bring the whole family for an easy Friday night tea!

Entertainment

There will be a variety of entertainment to add to the atmosphere of this event - buskers, items by the Singing into the Community forum, face painting, temporary tattoos, nature mandalas, raffles, garden stall, second-hand books and of course our family Fruit and Vegetable Sculpture competition. Bring along your spare change and have some fun while supporting the school.

Student safety

Students will need to be supervised by parents at all times, and cannot play in the playgrounds or other unsupervised areas of the school grounds without an adult present, for their own safety. We will be restricting the area of this event to the gym and the area around the Big Tree in the center of the school. If your child would like to play in the playground, please ensure there is an adult accompanying them. Staff will be busy running the activities outlined above and will not be free to supervise children at this event.

We look forward to seeing you, your family and friends on Friday November 4th, to celebrate your children’s Artistic achievements!

Why does the SAKG program need financial support?

Every year we need to raise at least $10,000 to make this program run. We are very fortunate that our P and F and a number of local businesses pledge money to support the pro-gram. We also run a number of fundraising activities that families can choose to take part in to go towards the program, for example Soup Days, Parent Craft stalls, Entertainment Book, Garden Stall and Bunnings BBQ. We hope to raise at least $3000 at the Art Show this year to make sure the SAKG

program is adequately funded.
