What is Organisational Development from
a Process Work Perspective?
In this project I make suggestions about how we can
define organisational development from a Process
Work perspective, based on the views of the fourparticipants I interviewed for this study. Areas suchas what the ideas behind process orientedorganisational development are, how it is done and
where it is used, are covered in the final paper. Inthis presentation some of these findings will bepresented.

What is Organisational Development from
a Process Work Perspective?
What is process oriented organisational (poOD)? Dowe know what it is? Can we define it? When is the
work that we do with organizations poOD, and whenis it something else? How do we do it? What issecret process work? Do steps of poOD exist, ordoes this go against process oriented thinking? IspoOD effective? How is it being accepted in the
mainstream? Some of these questions and morewill be answered in this presentation, based on theviews of the four participants I interviewed for thisstudy.

What is poOD?
What is Organisational Development froma Process Work Perspective?
At a high level, its about unfolding anorganisations process.
Many parallels between OD and PD.
This a new application of process work, not a new field (Kerry, 2006)

What is Organisational Development froma Process Work Perspective?
Lesli: PoOD is the process of working withan organization where you look at theirstrengths and what they do well, and you
also look at the things that disturb them, andtake them away from their intention. Andbased on their culture and what they arewilling to go along with, you find ways to help
them integrate the things that disturb andmarginalize them, so they can be a moreresilient organization.

Max: what I call process oriented
organisational development, (is) WorldWork
with for-profit and non-profit groups, thatare interested in becoming conscious with orworking with who they are and where they
want to go.

What is Organisational Development froma Process Work Perspective?
Kerry: Process oriented organizationaldevelopment is using process orientedmethods to further the development of an
organization. It falls under the theoreticalframework of WorldWork theres a primaryprocess, a role that needs to be satisfied, itsgot goals and agendas and you look atwhats troubling it, whats the secondary
process, what are the roles that are ghostroles and how can we help facilitate a betterconnection between those roles.

Organizational development is basically assessing and designing
interventions towards a particular goal. It's the degree to which your work isimbedded in a larger goal that you are
somehow a part of.Kerry, 2006

Client understanding of issue as diagnostic:
The client comes, the client has a presenting
issue, the client understanding of the issueitself is diagnosticin the sense that its notso much a description of what is, but adescription of the edges and the structures
and the roles and ghost roles of the clientorganization or individual.

The numbers are showing that people arenipping at your heels, and to be reallyinnovative, you need to draw on the wisdomof everybody in this group, and sometimesthats not such an easy thing to do, cos
people are a pain in the ass, you dont wantto hear from people.
