Operating Instructions

• The water in a pool or spa shouldnever exceed 104ºF (40ºC). A watertemperature in excess of 104ºF isconsidered unsafe for all persons.Lower water temperatures arerecommended for extended use(exceeding 10-15 minutes) andyoung children.

• Excessive water temperatures havea high potential for causing fetaldamage during the early months ofpregnancy. Pregnant or possiblypregnant women should limit poolor spa water temperatures to 100ºF(38ºC).

• Alcohol, drugs, or medicationshould not be used before or duringpool or spa use since their use maylead to unconsciousness with thepossibility of drowning.

• Obese persons and persons with amedical history of heart disease, lowor high blood pressure, circulatorysystem problems, or diabetes shouldconsult a physician before using apool or spa.

! WARNING • Persons using medication shouldconsult a physician before using apool or spa since some medicationmay induce drowsiness while othermedication may affect heart rate,blood pressure, and circulation.

• Prolonged immersion in hot watermay induce hyperthermia.Hyperthermia occurs when theinternal temperature of the bodyreaches a level several degreesabove the normal bodytemperature of 98.6ºF. Thesymptoms of hyperthermia includedizziness, fainting, drowsiness,lethargy, and an increase in theinternal temperature of the body.The effects of hyperthermiainclude: unawareness of impendinghazard; failure to perceive heat;failure to recognize the need to exitpool or spa; physical inability to exitpool or spa; fetal damage inpregnant women; andunconsciousness resulting in adanger of drowning.

• Because the tolerance of watertemperature-regulating devicesmay vary as much as ±5ºF (±3ºC),you should measure the watertemperature at several locationsusing an accurate thermometerbefore entering a pool or spa.

Pool Chemistry and Warranty (PRO400 & PRO600)Maintaining pool chemistry atthe correct levels is critical forhealth and pool/spa equipmentreasons. Failure to maintainindustry recognized standardsfor proper pool chemistry willvoid your warranty on thePRO400 & PRO600. This chartcontains the recommendedlevels for a typical pool. InstallationProceduresUnit InspectionInspect your unit very carefully beforeinstalling. Make sure there has been nodamage to the evaporator fins or thereare no punctures or oil-soaked areas onthe box. This would indicate damage tothe refrigeration system and should berejected immediately.

THE UNIT MUST BE TRANSPORTED INTHE UPRIGHT POSITION AT ALLTIMES AND MUST NOT BE DROPPEDOR TAILGATED. DAMAGE TO THEUNIT DURING TRANSPORTATION ISNOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THEMANUFACTURER.

Unit LocationOnce the unit has been inspected andcleared of any transportation damage,it is now time to locate the poolheater. It is very important tounderstand the location of the unit forthe best performance of operation. See Figure 1 for locationrecommendations.A minimum of 18” of clearancebetween the evaporator coils andshrubs, fences, walls, etc. must bemaintained for adequate air intake.A minimum of 5’ of vertical clearancebetween the top of the unit and anyroof overhang or other obstructionsmust be maintained in order toprevent the re-circulation of cold airback into the evaporator coils. This is

to maintain the efficiency of the unit.A minimum of 36” of clearancebetween the front of the unit (accesspanel area) and any obstruction mustbe maintained to allow maintenanceon the unit when necessary.The unit should be located on a solidlevel surface, a minimum of 36”x 36”for proper drainage.Make sure any sprinkler heads are notdirectly spraying water on the unit.While heat pumps are made for anoutdoor environment, they are notdesigned to have sprinkler waterconstantly spraying them. NOTE: Thistype of constant watering directlyon the unit can void your warranty.Condensation drain holes are provided

in all units for adequate removal ofcondensation and rainwater. ALLUNITS WILL HAVE CONDENSATION.THIS SHOULD NOT BE MISTAKENFOR A LEAK IN THE UNIT.

Plumbing

Where freezing weather is encountered,the detachable connection/union(provided on PRO1000) must be installedimmediately adjacent to the heater tofacilitate servicing and draining of theheat exchanger. Draining is necessaryto prevent damage to the condensershell and coil due to the expansionof freezing water.The minimum water circulationcapacity flowing through the poolheater is 25 gallons per minute and themaximum capacity is 80 gallons perminute.

Do not install a water shutoff valve inthe piping from the outlet of the poolheater to the pool or spa. However, acheck valve that does not include ashut-off feature may be installed forconvenience during servicing.

A check valve or Hartford Loop isrecommended between the unit and achlorinator. The chlorinator must bedownstream of the heat pump. Failureto do so may void the warranty.

If you have an in-floor cleaning system,please take note of any specialplumbing requirements to operate allunits effectively.

Figure 2 shows the recommendedinstallation layout.

Basic Heat PumpOperation

Electrical ConnectionsAll wiring andelectrical

connections must be performed by aqualified electrician. Installations mustbe in accordance with local andnational codes.

Overheating, short-circuiting and fire

damage will result from inadequatewiring.

All units are equipped with an electricalwiring schematic inside the electricalpanel. If this is missing, please contactthe factory at 1-877-278-2797 to obtainone.

All units are to be wired for 230 VAC,1 phase. Please see following chart forcorrect amperage:

Pool Heater is to be installed inaccordance with Article 680 of theNational Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA70, and within the requirements of alllocal codes having jurisdiction.

Connecting to RemoteSystem (PRO1000 only)The PRO1000 Pool Heater is compatiblewith all known remote systems in thepool industry. If you have or add aremote system to your pool, pleasereview these instructions for wiringand setting the thermostats on yourpool heat pump. You will need toknow if your remote system is a 2 wireor a 3 wire system.

For 2 wire remotes1. Turn the “pool” and “spa”

thermostat up to their highest settings

2. Switch the toggle to “off” setting3. See figure 4 for wiring diagram of

2 wire remote system4. Connect remote system’s 2 wires to

the 4 & 5 positions on the terminal block.

For 3 wire remotes1. Turn the “pool” thermostat to the

desired pool temperature.2. Turn the “spa” thermostat to the

desired spa temperature3. Switch the toggle to the “off”

setting.4. See figure 5 for wiring diagram of

3 wire remote system5. Connect the low (or pool) wire to

position 4 on the terminal block.

that power to the unit is on. TheRED light indicates that the unit isin heating mode.

• The RED light may becomeilluminated prior to heater start up.The RED light will become lit whenthe thermostat knob is set at orabove the water temperature.

• The unit has a built in time delay.Every time the unit turns off there isa five-minute time delay until theunit may be restarted. The HEATlight may turn on during this delaycycle. Do not rotate the thermostatknob during this time delay.Rotating the knob during this cyclemay reset the time delay, causingthe unit to wait an additional fiveminutes prior to startup.

Water Temperature SetPoint• Temperature set point range is 45°F

to 107°F. Rotating the thermostatknob clockwise will increase thetemperature set point, whilerotating counterclockwise willdecrease the temperature set point.

• A floating thermometer may beplaced in the pool or spa to monitorwater temperature.

• To initially calibrate the thermostatto the desired set point, turn the

thermostat knob fully clockwise.The unit will turn on and beginheating after a possible five minutetime delay. Allow the unit to rununtil pool or spa water reaches thedesired temperature. Slowly turnthermostat knob counterclockwiseuntil the unit turns off. The unit willnow maintain this watertemperature, providing thecirculation pump is running.

ApplicationGuidelinesMaintenanceAll heat pumps are designed foroutdoor use. However, somemaintenance is required to maintainthe full life of the heater and isnecessary to maintain your warranty.Annual maintenance should bescheduled to make sure blowing sandor falling debris is removed from theinside of the heater. Rinsing the coildown monthly with low water pressurewill help keep the base of the unit clearof debris. Do not use a high pressurewasher. This can cause damage to yourevaporator coils and will void yourwarranty. It is recommended that alicensed air conditioning specialistperform the annual plannedmaintenance on your heater.

Manual TemperatureControlsDescription - PRO400 & PRO600• The manual Temperature Control is

designed to regulate pool and spawater temperature.

• There are two indicator lights onthe control panel to display thecurrent status of the unit.

• The thermostat knob may beadjusted to maintain the desiredwater temperature.

Description - PRO1000• With the PRO1000, you have a pool

and a spa thermostat and a 3-position toggle switch.

• Use the toggle switch to select thepool, spa and off settings.

• The thermostat knobs may beadjusted to maintain the desiredwater temperature.

• See “Connecting to a RemoteSystem” for toggle position andthermostat position when this unitis hooked up to a remote system.

Indicator Lights• There are two indicator lights on

the front panel that display unitstatus. The GREEN light indicates

If you decide torinse down the

evaporator coils yourself, disconnect allpower to the entire equipment padbefore you rinse it. This must be donein order to prevent possible electricalshock.

CondensationAll heat pump pool heaters will havecondensation. It is typical to have asmuch as 6-8 gallons of condensation orwater per hour, during a warm, humidday. Do not mistake this for a leak.

If you are not sure whether the water isa leak or condensation, there are twoways to check. First, use a pool teststrip to see if there is any chlorine orbromine in the water. If there is,contact the factory for service. Second,you can turn off the heater, leave thefilter pump running and see if thewater stops. If you do not seeadditional water, then the originalwater was condensation.

! CAUTION

Pool BlanketsA pool blanket has been proven togreatly reduce the heat loss in the pooland will save as much as 50% - 60% inyour heating bills. During the start ofthe swimming season and the end ofthe season, if a pool blanket is notused, the heater may not be able tomaintain your desired temperaturewithout the use of the blanket.

Seasonal ShutdownsAt the end of your swimming seasonyou may have freezing weatherconditions. The unions (provided withPRO1000) must be disconnected todrain any water in the pipes. Failure todo so may cause the heat exchanger toexpand and crack. This will void yourwarranty.

If you live in an area that does not havefreezing weather conditions but aresubject to extended periods of non-use,allow the filtration system to continueto run water through the heater. Oryou can drain the unit of all water.

Pool OpeningsIf at the end of the previous season youdisconnected the unions, be sure toconnect them before you turn on thefiltration system. Once the pool hasbeen cleaned and the unit has beenchecked for leaks, turn the power onthe heater and set the thermostat tothe desired temperature.

Note: It may take up to three days toreach the desired temperature duringthe opening of the swimming season.Without a pool blanket, it may takeeven longer and may not reach thedesired temperature until later in theseason.

Weather ConditionsWeather conditions play a big part inthe operation of the heater. Lowoutside ambient temperature, highwinds, low relative humidity, and alarge amount of shading on the poolwill all have an effect on how muchtime it takes to heat the pool and howmuch time it might need to maintainthe desired temperature. Once theoutside ambient temperature dropsbelow 50ºF, the heater may notoperate.

If the heater is not operating duringthe initial start-up, check to see if it hasbeen installed properly, per thisowner’s manual. Make sure thebreaker has been sized properly. Thefollowing are conditions to checkbefore calling Aqua Pro Systems for aservice:

Unit is not running:

• Check the power light. Check to seeif the breaker is set.

• Make sure the filtration system is on• Make sure the thermostat is higher

than the pool water temperature• Make sure the filter is clean and is

allowing enough water to flow• Make sure the outside ambient

temperature is higher than 50ºF• Make sure the 5-minute time delay

has passed• On the PRO100, make sure toggle

switch is set to pool or spa modeand is not in the “OFF” position.

Unit is running but not heating:• Check the air coming out of the top

of the unit. It should beapproximately 8ºF - 15ºF lower thanthe surrounding ambient airtemperature. If not, call the factoryfor service.

Unit runs continuously:

• Check for correct wiring.• Lower the desired water

temperature below the pool watertemperature. If the unit is stillrunning, call the factory for service.

• If the unit shuts off when thethermostat is lowered, it may berunning continuously because itcannot reach the desiredtemperature. A pool blanket maybe required to help reach thistemperature. Also, the filter pumpmay need to run longer for theheater to reach the desiredtemperature.

Unit is cycling:

• Check the filters for proper waterflow.

• Check the evaporator coil for severefrost.

• Unit could be low on refrigerant.At this point, call the factory forservice and turn off the power tothe heater to keep the cycling fromdamaging the compressor.

LIMITED WARRANTYFor five (5) years from the date of purchase for the PRO400, PRO600 & PRO1000, Wayne Water Systems, d/b/a AquaProSystems (“AquaPro”) will repair or replace, at its option, for the original owner any parts of its Heat Pumps (“Product”)which are found upon examination by AquaPro to be defective in materials or workmanship. For the Pro 1000 you arecovered by a ten (10) year warranty on the compressor, which is prorated from years six (6) through ten (10). The PRO1000also carries a lifetime warranty on the Titanium tubing in the heat exchanger. This Limited Warranty covers labor for aperiod of one (1) year on the PRO400 and PRO600 and a period of five (5) years in Florida and one (1) year outside of Floridaon the PRO1000.

Please call AquaPro at 1-877-AQUASYS (1-877-278-2797) for instructions. Be prepared to provide a receipt, the model numberand serial number when exercising this limited warranty.

Purchaser must pay all transportation charges on Products or parts submitted for repair or replacement.

All non-warranty service charges are the responsibility of the original owner. Failure to pay for non-warranty service chargeswill void this Limited Warranty.

This Limited Warranty does not cover Products that have been damaged as a result of accident, abuse, freezing, improperpool/spa chemistry on the PRO400 & PRO600, not the PRO1000 as illustrated and explained in the section Pool Chemistry andWarranty (pH not kept between 7.2 to 7.8; total alkalinity ppm not kept between 60 to 180; total Bromine ppm not keptbetween 2.0 to 10.0; free Chlorine not kept within proper minimum/maximum levels specified for pool or spa; Calciumhardness ppm as CaCO3 not kept within proper minimum/maximum levels specified for pool or spa; Cyanuric Acid not keptwithin proper minimum/maximum levels specified for pool or spa), misuse, neglect, improper installation, impropermaintenance or failure to operate in accordance with AquaPro’s written instructions. All maintenance and service must beperformed by service agents approved by AquaPro. Any unauthorized alteration or repairs will void this Limited Warranty.

THERE IS NO OTHER EXPRESS WARRANTY. IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING THOSE OF MERCHANTABILITY ANDFITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED TO ONE (1) YEAR FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. THIS IS THEEXCLUSIVE REMEDY AND ANY LIABILITY FOR ANY AND ALL INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OREXPENSES WHATSOEVER IS EXCLUDED.

Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, or do not allow the exclusions or limitations ofincidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations might not apply to you. This limited warranty gives youspecific legal rights, and you may also have other legal rights which vary from state to state.

In no event, whether as a result of breach of contract warranty, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, shall AquaPro or itssuppliers be liable for any special, consequential, incidental or penal damages including, but not limited to loss of profit orrevenues, loss of use of the products or any associated equipment, damage to associated equipment, cost of capital, cost ofsubstitute products, facilities, services or replacement power, downtime costs, or claims of buyer’s customers for suchdamages.

This Limited Warranty does not include freight charges for equipment or component parts, to and from the factory, servicessuch as maintenance or inspection, repair or damage due to negligence such as freezing conditions, incorrect installation, noracts of God. It also does not include refrigerant or other expendable materials. The liability of AquaPro Systems shall notexceed the repair or replacement of defective parts under this Limited Warranty. This Limited Warranty also does not includeunnecessary service calls due to erroneous operational reports, external valve positions, or electrical service. If a non-warrantyservice call is made, and the homeowner is unwilling to pay for the service call, this Limited Warranty will be voided. ThisLimited Warranty is voided if the product is repaired or altered by any persons or agencies other than those authorized byAquaPro Systems. This Limited warranty applies only within the continental USA. For warranty outside the continental USA,contact AquaPro Systems.

Ubicación de la unidadUna vez que la unidad haya sidoinspeccionada y se haya descartadocualquier daño durante el transporte,es hora de colocar el calentador de lapiscina. Es muy importante entenderla ubicación de la unidad para el mejorrendimiento del funcionamiento.

Deberá mantener un espacio mínimode 18" (45,7 cm) entre las bobinas delevaporador y arbustos, cercas, paredes,etc., para la entrada adecuada de aire.

Se deberá mantener un espacio verticalmínimo de 5' (1,5 m) entre la parte

superior de la unidad y cualquierartefacto colgado del techo u otrasobstrucciones a fin de evitar larecirculación de aire frío dentro de lasbobinas del evaporador. Esto es paramantener la eficiencia de la unidad.

Se deberá mantener un espacio mínimode 24" (61 cm) entre la parte delanterade la unidad (área del panel de acceso)y cualquier obstrucción a fin depermitir el mantenimiento de la unidadcuando sea necesario.

La unidad debería colocarse sobreuna superficie sólida y nivelada, con unmínimo de 36" x 36" (91,5 cm x 91,5 cm)para un drenaje adecuado.

En climas de temperaturas bajo cero, laconexión/unión desmontable(proporcionada con el PRO1000) deberáinstalarse inmediatamente adyacente alcalentador para facilitar el servicio y eldrenaje del intercambiador de calor.El drenaje es necesario para evitar eldaño a la caja y las bobinas delcondensador debido a la expansióndel agua congelada.

La capacidad mínima de circulación deagua a través del calentador de piscinaes de 25 galones (94,6 l) por minuto y lacapacidad máxima es 80 galones (302,8 l)por minuto.

No instale una válvula de corte de aguaen las tuberías desde la salida delcalentador de piscina hasta la piscina ohidromasaje. Sin embargo, se podráinstalar una válvula de retención que noincluya un dispositivo de corte para máspracticidad durante el servicio.

Se recomienda una válvula de retencióno Hartford Loop entre la unidad y unclorador. El clorador debe estar situadoabajo de la bomba de calor. El nohacerlo podría anular la garantía.

Si dispone de un sistema de limpiezaintegrado, por favor tome nota de losrequisitos especiales de plomería parapoder operar la unidad con eficacia.

Punto de ajuste de latemperatura del agua• El rango del punto de ajuste de la

temperatura es de 45ºF a 107ºF(7ºC a 42ºC). Si gira la perilla deltermostato hacia la derecha,aumentará el punto de ajuste de latemperatura, mientras que si gira laperilla hacia la izquierda, disminuiráel punto de ajuste de latemperatura.

• Se puede colocar un termómetroflotante en la piscina o la tina dehidromasaje para controlar latemperatura del agua.

• Para calibrar inicialmente eltermostato al punto de ajustedeseado, gire la perilla deltermostato hacia la derecha, hastael tope. La unidad se encenderáy comenzará a calentar después deun posible tiempo de retardo decinco minutos. Permita que la unidadfuncione hasta que el agua de lapiscina o de la tina de hidromasajealcance la temperatura deseada.Gire lentamente la perilla deltermostato hacia la izquierda hastaque la unidad se apague. La unidadmantendrá ahora esta temperaturadel agua, siempre que la bomba decirculación esté funcionando.

Pautas de aplicaciónMantenimientoTodas las bombas de calor estándiseñadas para uso en espaciosexteriores. Si decide enjuagar las bobinas delevaporador usted mismo, desconectela corriente de todo el equipo antes deenjuagarlo. Esto debe hacerse a fin deevitar un posible choque eléctrico.

CondensaciónTodos las bombas de calor para piscinastendrán condensación. Es típico tenertanto como 6 a 8 galones (23 l a 31 l)de condensación o de agua por hora,durante un día cálido y húmedo. Noconfunda esto con una pérdida.

Si usted no sabe con seguridad si elagua viene de una pérdida o decondensación, hay dos maneras deaveriguarlo. Primero, use una tira deprueba para piscinas para ver si haycloro o bromo en el agua. Si los hay,póngase en contacto con la fábricapara solicitar un servicio. En segundolugar, puede apagar el calentador,dejar la bomba del filtro funcionando yver si el agua deja de correr. Si no vemás agua, entonces el agua que habíaoriginalmente era condensación.

Cubiertas para piscinasSe ha comprobado que las cubiertaspara piscinas reducen en gran medidala pérdida de calor en la piscina yahorrarán un máximo de 50% a 60%en sus facturas de calefacción. Duranteel comienzo de la temporada deverano y al final de la misma, si no seusa una cubierta para piscinas, puedeque el calentador no pueda mantenerla temperatura que usted desea sin eluso de la cubierta.

! PRECAUCION

Cerramientosde temporadaAl final de la temporada de veranopuede tener condiciones climáticasde congelamiento. Las uniones(incluidas con el PRO1000) debendesconectarse para drenar toda el aguade las tuberías. El no hacer esto podríaprovocar que el intercambiador decalor se expandiera y se quebrara. Esto anulará su garantía.

Si vive en una región que no tienecondiciones climáticas decongelamiento pero está sujeto alargos períodos sin uso, permita que elsistema de filtración continúe pasandoagua a través del calentador. O puededrenar toda el agua de la unidad.

Aberturas de la piscinaSi al final de la temporada anteriorusted desconectó las uniones,asegúrese de conectarlas antes deencender el sistema de filtrado.Una vez que se haya limpiado la piscinay se haya comprobado que la unidadno tiene pérdidas, conecte la corrientedel calentador y configure eltermostato a la temperatura deseada.

Guía de diagnóstico y resolución de problemasSi el calentador no está funcionandodurante el encendido inicial, verifiquepara ver si se ha instaladocorrectamente, según este manual delpropietario. Asegúrese de que eldisyuntor se haya medidocorrectamente. Las siguientes soncondiciones a verificar antes de llamara Aqua Pro Systems para solicitar unservicio:

Códigos de diagnóstico:

La unidad no está funcionando:

• Verifique la luz de corriente.Verifique que el disyuntor estéen la posición correcta.

• Asegúrese de que el termostatoestá más alto que la temperaturadel agua de la piscina.

La unidad funciona continuamente:

• Baje la temperatura deseada delagua por debajo de la temperaturadel agua de la piscina. Si la unidadaún está funcionando, llame a lafábrica para solicitar servicio.

• Si la unidad se apaga cuando sebaja el termostato, puede ser queesté en constante funcionamientoporque no puede alcanzar latemperatura deseada. Puede que senecesite una cubierta para piscinaspara ayudar a alcanzar estatemperatura. También, puede quela bomba del filtro necesitefuncionar por más tiempo para queel calentador alcance latemperatura deseada.

PRO400, PRO600, PRO1000

La unidad tiene un funcionamientocíclico:

• Verifique que los filtros tenganel flujo de agua adecuado.

GARANTÍA LIMITADA

Durante 5 (cinco) años a partir de la fecha de compra del PRO400, PRO600 y PRO1000, Wayne Water Systems, cuyo nombrecomercial es AquaPro Systems (“AquaPro”) reparará o cambiará, a su propio criterio, para el propietario original, cualquierpieza de sus bombas de calor (“Producto”) que AquaPro determine, luego de examinarlo, que tienen defectos de materialeso de mano de obra. Para el PRO1000 usted está cubierto por un garantía de diez (10) años sobre el compresor, la cual esprorrateada del año seis (6) hasta el año diez (10). Esta Garantía Limitada no cubre los Productos que hayan sufrido daños resultantes de accidentes, abusos, congelación,manejo inapropiado de los químicos de la piscina/hidromasaje con el PRO400 y el PRO600, no el PRO1000 como se indica yexplica en la sección Química de la Piscina y Garantía (pH fuera del rango de 7,2 a 7,8; alcalinidad total en ppm no mantenidaentre 60 y 180; bromo total no mantenido entre 2,0 y 10,0; cloro libre no mantenido entre los niveles mínimos y máximosespecificados para la piscina o hidromasaje; dureza en calcio como ppm de CaCO3 no mantenida entre los niveles mínimos ymáximos especificados para la piscina o hidromasaje; ácido cianhúrico no mantenido entre los niveles mínimos y máximosespecificados para piscina o hidromasaje), uso inapropiado, descuido, instalación inapropiada, mantenimiento inadecuado ouso en desacuerdo con las instrucciones escritas de AquaPro. NO EXISTE OTRA GARANTÍA EXPRESA. LAS GARANTÍAS IMPLÍCITAS, INCLUYENDO AQUELLAS DECOMERCIALIZACIÓN Y APTITUD PARA UN PROPÓSITO EN PARTICULAR, ESTÁN LIMITADAS A 5 (CINCO) AÑOSA PARTIR DE LA FECHA DE COMPRA.
