PID Control Unit(Proportional-Integral-Derivative)maintainstheefficiencyoftheHIU.Providestabletemperaturesundervaryingloadconditions.Uniquealgorithmsconstantlyrecalculatetheamountandthespeedofmodulationrequiredformaximumefficiency.
Pressure Independent ControlIntegralPICvalvewithelectricactuatorgivingproportionalmodulatingcontrolasinstructedbythePIDController,100%authority,(regardlessofpressurefluctuationsinthedistrictheatingsupply).UnlikemanyotherHIU,furthercontrolvalves(forexampleDifferentialPressureControlValves)arenotrequired.
Anti-Scale ControlIntheDomesticHotWater(DHW)PlateHeatExchanger(PHE)-theflowisalwaysdivertedawayfromtheDHWPHEintotheHTGPHEreducingthescaleformationpotential.
Automatic Fault DiagnosticsThecontrolunitcanidentifyfaultstocomponentswithintheHIUandissuesanidentifyingfaultcodeonthedisplay.Oncethefaultorerrorhasbeenrectifiedthecontrolunitwillautomaticallyresetandresumenormaloperation.
Heating Flow Automatic LimitationDecreasingthepossibilityofstarvingtheDomesticHeating(DH)circuitwhenextremedemandsaremadeontheentirenetwork.Forexampleincoldweatherwhenalargeheatingdemandismadeonthenetworkthecontrolunitdoesnotallow100%openingonstartupandpreventsthe‘overdemand’causingdisruptions.
Instant Hot Water ResponseInstantwaterresponseisguaranteedbykeepingheat(suppliedbythedistrictsupply)closeathandtotheHIUatalltimes.Atregularintervals(factorysetto20minutes),thecontrolleropens(factorysetto2min)thePICvalvetodeliveralowflowofabout100l/hr,thenclosesthevalveagain.ThisrepeatswhenevertheHIUisonstandbywhenthereisnodemand.
Optimised Heating ControlThereturntemperaturesareautomaticallymonitoredandcontrolled.ThecontrolleroftheHIUusesthisinformationtomaintaintheoptimumflowtempera-tureandkeeptheDISTRICTreturntemperatureaslowaspossible.ThiscanbeseenonthedisplayscreenasAUTOandisthefactorysetting.
DHWS PriorityDomesticHotWaterSupply(DHWS)isthepriorityoperationoftheHIU.AflowswitchdetectsthedemandattheHIU(ifinheatingmode)andswitchestoDHWproduction.Eveniftheheatingsystemisinfaultmode,theHIUwillstillproduceDHWS.
High DHW temperature safetyIfforwhateverreasonun-managedhotwateratextremetemperatureweretopassthroughthePlateHeatExchanger(PHE),thereisathermostaticlimitingvalveontheDHWexit.Thisislockedandfactorysetto60C.Beingnon-electricalthisstillmaintainsthesafetyfeatureevenwhenelectricsupplytotheHIUiscut.

Underfloor HeatingTheunitisfullycompatiblewithlowtemperaturesystemssuchasthoseinUFH.Theinstallersimplysetstherequiredvaluefortemperatureoninstallation.Fulldetailsareavailableintheinstallationmanual.
InsulationTheHIUpanelsareallfullyinsulatedincludingthebackplatetopreventoverheatingofthesurroundingarea.
Prepayment BillingCanbeaccommodatedwithanaccessorykittoshutdowntheunitwhenthetenantisnolongerincredit.
SecurityThemetalcasingcanbeclosedtopreventunauthorisedtamperingwithoptionalfixingboltsavailableonrequest.
HIU Hibernation modePressthestartbuttonandholdfor3secondsandtheHIUwillshut-down.ThePICVvalvewillshut,andheating,hotwaterandstandbyfunctionswillbedisabled.Pressthestartbuttontoresumenormaloperation.Thisisafunctionforwhentheapartmentisunoccupiedorforthetenantduringholidayperiods.

Proportional ControlAproportionalcontrolsystemisnotsimplyturningtheCHandDHWSonandoff,itfeedsinthesupplyfromtheDistrictsideinproportiontothedemand.Thisgivesstablehotwatersupplytemperatures,evenatverylowdemands.
Theheatingissimilarlycontrolledformaximumefficiency,astheroomwarmsupthecontrollerstartstolowertheamountofheatbeingallowedintothePHEsupplyingthecentralheatingalwaysmaintainingminimumenergyusage.
TemperatureandflowsensorsintheunitsendconstantinformationbacktothePID(Proportional-Integral-Derivative)controlunitwhichinturnsignalsthePICVtomodulateasrequiredtomeetthedemandandmaintaintemperaturestability.
Design and ConstructionTheunitisdesignedfortheplateheatexchangerstobeatthefronttoalloweasyaccess.Thesearemountedontopurposemadebrassblockswhichcontaintheintegralwaterwaysandcomponentconnectionpoints.Inter-connectingpipeworkiskepttoaminimum.

Switch on the Power SupplyWhenpowered-upforthefirsttime,thecontrollerwillgothroughadiagnosticscheckoftheHIU.Thismaylastafewsecondsandthedisplayshowsa‘timedout’rotatingsymbol(seeabove).Ifaproblemisdetectedthecontrollerwilldisplayan‘ERROR’symbol.(seeinstalleroruserguideforfulldetails
HIU is now on stand-byHavingcompleteditschecks,thecontrollerisnowreadytobeused.Untilademandiscreateditwillremaininstandbymode.
Turn on a hot water tapThehotwatertemperatureisfactorysetto55oC(theindustryrecommendedtemperature).OncetheHIUcontrollersenseswaterflowitwillcommencetheproductionofhotwaterimmediately,andstabiliseatthesettemperature.
Turn the tap off(nodemandforhotwater)
Thescreenwillshowthe‘standby’symbol(seeabove).
Room thermostat(callsforheating………..)
TheHIUnowoperatesinheatingmode,andthedisplayshowsthesetflowtemperature.Anydemandforhotwaterwilltakepriority.
