MARCH THOUGHTS
From time to time residents contact the Parish Council with thoughts and questions about things going on in our community and some themes recur fairly regularly. So it seems that it might be timely to just update folk on some of the common respons-es. If you see something problematic occurring in the village it is great that it is drawn to the attention of neighbours and fellow residents through Facebook and other e-media but if what you see is potentially criminal or anti-social please do report it to the police on their 101 phone line or via their website. They can only respond to things they know about and will often only react if they can identify a pattern of behaviour or cluster of activity. We cannot realistically complain about them not reacting to things if we don’t report it to them. It is worth stating at this point also that anything to do with highways, footpaths, blocked road drains, fly-tipping and planning matters is the exclusive responsibility of NELC. The Parish Council does have a consultative role in many of these areas but we have no statutory powers of enforcement. We can, and do, report issues we become aware of but if you see something which is in need of repair or attention please do report it on NELC’s Report-it page on their website or on their central phone line. They are usually very good at responding, possibly better than they used to be! As we move towards Spring it is great to see the snowdrops and daffodils bringing colour back to our village. Can we though take the opportunity to remind home-owners that as the hedges around properties start to fill out again there is often a real risk that they will encroach upon footpaths and restrict ease of passage for pe-destrians and increase the risk of accidents. Please keep an eye on your hedges and keep them trimmed back. Whilst on the issue of hedges etc, a big thank you to Steve Palmer and his helpers who have planted a huge number of trees and shrubs around the village in the past few weeks. The parish council has also committed to purchasing additional shrubs and bulbs for a number of locations and these we will be planting at the appropriate time through the year. Great that these inputs might be they can so easily be under-mined by vehicles trashing verges and some dog owners not cleaning up dog poo, maintaining the quality of our environment is a responsibility we all share Can we also put in a plea for car owners to park considerately. There have been a number of occasions recently when the chicanes created by thoughtless parking have presented real challenges to drivers in regular vehicles, emergency vehicles would surely have found some sections impassable!

Healing Parish Council
NOTES FOR MARCH 2020
The Council meeting for February was held as usual at Healing Village Hall.
The Council also held an extraordinary meeting towards the end of Febru-
ary 2020 to discuss contractual issues around the sale of the Village Hall.
Highways and Footpaths
The Parish Council is now waiting for the implementation of the proposed
TRO concerning parking on verges and footways and has a meeting sched-
uled for early March to discuss progress and other highways matters in-
cluding speeding on Stallingborough Road.
Police Matters
The Parish Council continues to receive its monthly police report, which is
published in the News each month.

HEALING VILLAGE SHOWCASE 2020
The organising committee are pleased to announce that plans
for the annual Village Showcase are well advanced.
The format this year will be slightly different from previously in
that Healing Manor have kindly offered to host the event on
their site in conjunction with the parish church and we look
forward to the opportunities that this will present.
This year the Showcase will be held on the afternoon of
SUNDAY AUGUST 9THFROM 2pm
The committee invites any group, company or individual, who
would like to take part in the Showcase by mounting a display
or running a stall or contributing in any way to please contact
them through their Facebook page.
In the meantime, to the wider village community, please put
this date in your diary, this will be the fourth Showcase we
have organised for the village and with your continued support
we hope to build upon the success of previous years.
There will be updates on the Showcase page as we get closer
to the event
We look forward to seeing you all in August.

HEALING BOWLS CLUB
POPLAR ROAD BOWLING GREEN, HEALING
Members of the Bowls Club are looking forward to some warm summer weather (hopefully) and the start of the outdoor bowling season at the end of April 2020. We take part in several local league competitions, but we also have a friendly “roll-up” every Thursday morning for those who either want to gain a bit more experience or who are not interested in playing competitively but just want to have some exercise and fun.
We are planning to hold two
Open Days on Saturday 2nd May and Saturday 9th May 2020
from 10am to 12 noon
so that anyone who is interested in learning to play bowls, or improve their bowling skills, can come along and have a go to see if they would like to join us.
We can provide the bowls for you to use on the morning and you do not need any special equipment other than flat, smooth soled shoes.
If you are interested but not able to attend the open days, you are welcome to attend any of the Thursday morning “roll-ups” from
10 am to 12 noon every Thursday commencing on 30th April - no booking or membership required – just turn up.

New Parish Council Member
At the February meeting, the Parish Council coopted a new member, Mrs. Kate
Harris, who was welcomed to the meeting after being coopted on to join the
Council with a unanimous vote. There is still a vacancy on the council for any
interested residents.
Village Hall Project
The sale of the Village Hall is still at a contractual exchange stage and legal condi-
tions are being considered before any contracts can be exchanged.

Future Dates and Reports
The Clerk has attended Being a Good Employer training day in Hull and the Parish
Council was representated at the Town and Parish Liaison Committee in January
and will also attend a quarterly highways meeting with NELC in March.
The Parish Council also set some future dates for the first half of the coming
year, with a Quiz Night back by popular demand, the VE Day Event on Saturday
9th May and the members will also be holding another afternoon tea event in
June 2020.
Parks and other siites
The day to day maintenance of the Parks is now restarting for the year with pre-
season works to the Bowling Green carried out and park maintenance will start
in earnest during March 2020.
There will be holiday club sessions during Easter on Wednesdays during the holi-
days for Easter from 10 am to 12 noon each Wednesday on 8th and 15th April
2020
Finance
The Council has appointed its internal auditor for the end of the financial year
and will have its own internal audit conducted before external audit arrange-
ments are carried out according to the legislative requirements.

WHO’S EYEING UP YOUR HOME?
There have been a recent spate of dwelling burglaries in
healing.
Homes with no security measures are five times more like-
ly to be burgled than those with simple security measures.
Good window locks and strong deadlocks can make a big
difference.
Become a creature of habit.
Here is what we recommend:
• Close and lock all your doors and windows, even if
you are only going out for a few minutes.
• Make sure that any valuables are out of sight
• Keep handbags away from the letterbox or cat flap
and hide all keys including car keys, as a thief could
hook keys or valuables through even a small opening.
• Never leave car documents or ID in obvious places
such as kitchens or hallways.
• In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on.
• Set your burglar alarm.
• Make sure your side gate is locked.

• Lock your shed or garage.
• Lock your bike inside a secure shed or garage to a
robust fitting bolted to the ground or wall
• Install good outside lighting
• Take photographs and keep documents for your val-
uables. This will help us identify stolen goods and
making it harder for thieves to sell.
• Trusted neighbours may be able to help you by col-
lecting your post, opening and closing curtains and
they could park their car on your driveway.
• Avoid discussing holiday plans on public social me-
dia sites – burglars can use any information you
post to their advantage.

VIEW FROM THE PEW Last December, I spent a week at a Silent Retreat Centre. St. Beuno’s in North Wales is a Jesuit Spirituality Centre which we had first heard about in a BBC documentary a number of years ago where five ‘ordinary’ people were dropped into St. Beuno’s for nine days of silence. The documentary (called ‘The Big Si-lence’) recorded the changing outlook and emotions of these participants as they immersed themselves in the silence. The instigator of that spiritual experiment, Abbot Christopher Jamison, asserted that ‘silence is the gateway to the soul, and the soul is the gateway to God’. Having watched and enjoyed ‘The Big Silence’, I wanted to explore Abbot Jamison’s conviction for myself. Spending a week in silence in a Catholic spiritu-ality centre was outside of my normal routine, certainly, but it was a time of clarity. I liken it to seeing the stars; on a dark, clear night, can you see the stars when you are standing in the middle of Grimsby? Yes, but you know that if you really want to see the stars, you would go somewhere out in the middle of no-where where there is no light pollution. Likewise, can God speak to us in the middle of our shopping trip to Asda or in the busy-ness of our lives? Yes, but his quiet promptings might be more discernible in a quiet, still environment. That doesn’t necessarily mean a trip to St. Beuno’s, but this was my determined effort to go somewhere quiet. Very quiet. While there, I found a prayer from the Lindisfarne Community which really spoke to me and has become my key resolution for this year: “Lord, help me to know that the secret of contentment lies in organising the self in the direction of simplicity.” Complexity and clutter in life lead to distraction and dusting; we live in an age where it is a badge of honour to be busy … too busy. I felt in my life that I need to actively and intentionally streamline my activity, aspiring to be less fragment-ed, fraught and frantic. It’s perfectly in harmony with the message and lifestyle of Jesus. How might you look to organise your ‘self’ in the direction of simplici-ty? Andrew Gadd

HEALING GARDEN CLUB
After the business was complete at our AGM our speaker for the evening
Rob Potterton from Pottertons Alpine Nursery at Nettleton entertained us
with a most interesting Nursery Challenge with most members going home
with delightful prizes.
We meet again on Thursday 5th March when our speaker is Stewart Swin-
burn who will tell us all about the RHS Britain in Bloom. Stewart has trav-
elled far and wide as an’ In Bloom’ Judge and is the linch pin of the Gold
Award winning Immingham in Bloom.
Our April meeting is the Spring Show and the schedules are available now
for members.
It costs just £5.00 to belong the Club and what do you get for that I hear you
ask?
11 monthly meetings with international, national and local speakers on
varied topics mostly with an environmental theme also the must have of tea
and biscuits are provided!

Our next visit to Harlow Carr is 26th April , a few seats are available for

Crime
There were 39 reported crimes across the Wolds Ward during Jan-uary, of which six occurred in Healing.
As previously reported, two men and a woman were arrested for burglary at a factory on EuroParc. A male was arrested after a quantity of metal table tops were sto-len from a company on EuroParc. A man riding his bike on a cycle track was bitten by a dog running loose.
About 10pm on 14th January two males were disturbed as they attempted to steal a motorbike parked on its drive ay Exmoor Close.
During the early hours of 18th January wing mirrors were damaged on a car parked on mallard Mews. The other crime reported was an assault.
There have been no reports of ASB.
Into February, overnight 8th & 9th, a shed in a garden on Station Road had its lock forced. Nothing was stolen.
There have been no reports of ASB.
