Dear Parents and Carers, School felt extremely quiet last week without our Year 5 children and staff. Class news

Rec: It's Paddington Bear's birthday this week so Reception Class have been very busy organising a party for him. We have written invitations to the party, made cards, counted to make sure we have enough party plates and bowls for everyone and even had a guess at what's inside his present. We are also going to make him a birthday cake and put some of his favourite marmalade in the middle. I wonder if any of us will like it!

Year 1: In Year 1 we have been very busy learning about 2D shapes. We went on a shape walk where we identified shapes, described the properties and looked at the repeating patterns. In art we explored Mondrian’s paintings and created our own pieces of artwork inspired by Mondrian.

Year 2: In Literacy we have enjoyed writing instructions based on our new book 'How to Find Gold.' In maths we have been learning to partition, add and subtract 2 digit numbers. In science and theme we have been learning about the North Pole, the animals that live there and how they have adapted to their environments. We have really enjoyed learning new balances in gymnastics, working together to create routines and demonstrating them to the class.

Year 3: This week in year 3 we have been looking at fractions. Finding fractions of shapes and then finding fractions of amounts. We have investigated equivalent fractions and found as many ways as we could to write 1/2! In literacy we have been using similes and metaphors to write poems about animals. We looked at poems by different authors and how they used rhyming to enhance their poem. We are finishing off our poetry topic by looking at alliteration and how it can be used effectively. The vile Victorians were very villainous!

Year 4: We have had a great week in Year 4 exploring more of our book ‘Jemmy Button’ and using the events in the story to relate to ourselves. We have been finding out the origins of our own names, which we have found fascinating to create poetry from. Maths has proven to be challenging this week with 3 digit numbers, but we have used our school value of resilience to help us!

Year 5: We had a wonderful week last week at Hindleap Warren and all pushed ourselves out of our comfort zones. Back at school we have been creating play scripts for our class assembly in a few weeks, identifying factors and multiples of numbers in maths and reading about what life was like for the Vikings.

Year 6: In Year 6 we have been enjoying reading Rose Blanche in English - analysing the illustrations and writing setting descriptions. We have been busy practising for our assembly this week and classifying living things in science using the Linnaean system. Last week, we were invited to St. Paul's church, where Rev. Wickings kindly held a special remembrance service for us to attend.
