Dear Members of the Harcourtian family,

It gives me immense pleasure to share that our

alma-mater, established in year 1921, will soon be

completing 97 years of its service to the society and the

Alumni Association shall be celebrating the same during

the 14th International Alumni Meet during November 24 -

25, 2018. The forthcoming meet aims to provide

opportunity to former students to revisit the institution to

cherish memories, meet old friends and make new

friends for mutual professional growth. This is a great

opportunity to the alumni community to interact with the

senior/ junior Harcourtians, budding

engineers/technologists, teachers and staff to explore the

ways for strengthening the Institution which has

significantly contributed to their making as a person as

well as professional.

On behalf of the Alumni Association, I humbly request all

Harcourtians to participate in the forthcoming Alumni

Meet, to be part of the celebration and come forward to

join in the mission of serving the alma-mater in

whichever way one can.

Dear Harcourtians,

In continuation of our endeavor to keep updating the functioning of the Alumni Association, several small steps have been taken in the past and we continue to do so.

During this month, the Alumni Association actioned out many decisions taken in the last Executive Committee meeeting in Delhi. The foremost was to change the Newsletter format which has received tremendous support from the Harcourtians. This would act as morale booster for the Editorial team. Kindly Keep giving your valuable comments so that we continue to improve.

The Distinguished Alumni Award was also uploaded on the website and nominations were called for. We have received multiple nominations in this regards.

The Annual Meet 2018 planning and preparation is gathering momentum as the date approaches. This time we have received close to 170 registrations so far and hope to exceed 250 as the date approaches. The Committee has decided to use the list of all Harcour tians who have registered for this event till 15 Oct 2018 on our website, for prepar ing the customized memento. The Registration for the event however would continue to remain open till 10 AM on 24th Nov 2018. Kindly par ticipate in large numbers to make it a grand success. Take this oppor tunity to meet old fr iends and revive memor ies of your student days in the Institute.

ALUMNI CONNECT APP UPDATEDear Harcourtians,

We are happy to announce the launch of Alumni Connect App v2.0

The earlier version was downloaded by nearly 2000 alumni.

Version 2.0 is an enhanced version which includes the scores of useful features. We have received a lots of good feedbacks and suggestions.

The new version has the following features :

1. Forgot password option: This has been the top demand of all Harcourtians who earlier downloaded v1.0. Now, you can reset password from your mobile itself.

2. Facility to upload news or photos: To share with your fellow Harcourtians in the monthly newsletter.

3. Alumni Map: Now you can see Harcourtians all over the globe. Touch the red balloon and you will be able to see the basic details.

4. Ability to send smilies and multi-lingual messages in chat inbox: To use Inbox feature - Search a Harcourtian -> touch the details -> you can compose either an email or send a chat message.

5. Reduction of the app size for Android

Petroleum Minister and the father of the Indian petroleum

industry. His efforts led to the creation of ONGC and

IOCL.

Mr. D. K. Agarwal, (1978 Chemical) received the Secondary Steel Sector award for the year 2016-17 from the Hon'ble Minister of Steel on 13th September 2018.

Mr. Agarwal is the Managing Director of Kashi Vishwanath Steels Pvt. Ltd.

NOSTALGIAVijay Vir Singh (1994 Civil), penned his thoughts on Engineers Day to remember the role of Engineers in day to day life. Each Year, "Engineers Day", is celebrated on 15 Sept on the HBTU Campus with all round participation.

SECOND HBTU ANNUAL DAY On the occasion of the second Annual Day of HBTU on 1st September 2018, an Ideation seminar was organized by the University. Shri Vinayak Nath, Managing Partner, Venture Catalysts was the keynote speaker and he shared the diverse aspects of entrepreneurship in career.

Professor Phani, Dean, Resources and Alumni, IIT Kanpur expanded on the concept of ideation through interesting examples such as of Yahoo search vs Google, Hotmail, etc.

Mr. Saurabh Singh from Swaraj Herbals recalled the struggles of an entrepreneur through the example of his father. He expressed gratitude for the help he received from HBTU Alumni Mr. K.K. Agarwal & Mr. Sudeep Tandon in building their enterprise. As a token of their appreciation and to enrich the facilities for study and research they also gifted a distillation unit to HBTU.TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) has been supporting entrepreneurs by offering education, mentorship, networking and funding opportunities. Ms. Ankita Shukla, Executive Director at TiE shared with the students the work done by TiE and the opportunities it offers to students.

I am delighted to see the ?Alumni HBTI Newsletter-August? in its new Avatar. Heartiest congratulations to the team involved in creating, editing and publishing it. One point which need improvement is clarity of pictures which are seen blurred possibly due to enlarged. I hope there is some scope in improvement and it will reflect in future newsletters.

OBITUARYMr. Dinesh Kumar Virmani, 1978 Paint Tech. passed away on the morning of 8th September 2018 due to a massive heart attack at his home in Gurgaon. The Alumni Association conveys its deepest condolences to Mr. Virmani's family.

Mr. Virmani was working as the President Supply Chain with Berger Paints. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Shashi Virmani and daughter , Mrs. Divya Virmani Rustogi who lives in New Jersey, USA.

Mr. S.P. Dubey (B.Tech. Paint Tech 1981, M.Tech. 1983) passed away on 30th September 2018. The Alumni Association conveys its deepest condolences to the family and prays that time heals the loss for them. Mr. Dubey was last living in Lucknow.
