For most of history the victim has not been a focus of the criminal justice systemNow there is an interest in restoring the victim
back to their life before the incident. How? Ben Mendelsohn was the first theorist to
study the victim of crimesGrouped them into 6 different groups Concluded that only a small portion of victims
are completely innocent, most do something to cause the incident

1. Completely innocent victims- (attack on child or unconscious)
2. Victims with minor guilt- (often victimized because of ignorance)
3. Voluntary victims whose guilt is equal to that of the offender- (a suicide pact, for example)
4. Victims more guilty than the offenders- (one who provokes and induces crime to occur)
5. Victims who alone are guilty- (started as aggressor and is hurt)
6. The imaginary victims- (suffered nothing but makes up crime)

Have someone ever passed away that you were particularly close to?
What was the recovery process like? Did you go through a lot of different emotional changes?
Was there anyone you felt like you talk to about the problem.
Do you feel like a funeral process can help you with dealing with your loss?
