3In close co-operation with physicians and other scientists ofhis time, Paul Hartmann managed to achieve a decisive position in the development, manufacture and marketing of new dressing materials.

Revolutionary examples in these years were absorbent cottonwool according to Bruns or the antiseptic carbolated gauzeaccording to Lister. For us, progressive ideas from practiceare as important today as they were at that time. It wasPaul Hartmann who laid the foundation for our corporateprinciples:

The claim to supply only the best for the preservation of human health.

As early as in 1885 the following was certain for Paul Hartmann: Only uncompromising qualityand products based on the latest standards are the basisfor future-oriented medical care.

5We have been successfullycontributing to more safety in the operating theatre fordecades.

Operating Theatre Products

An important step toward more safety in the operating theatre was our development of the inter-weavable X-raydetectable thread Telatrast with which, since then, all dress-ings and swabs for use in the operating room are equipped.The radio detectable medium enables reliable verification ifdressing material had been left in the wound area. Addi-tional safety is provided by the assembling of Telatrast dressing materials in modules with control stickers whichmake double-check counts and documentation easier forthe operating theatre staff.

We make an important contribution to the solution of theproblem of the transmission of germs in the operating theatre. We took up the challenge of effectively eliminatingpossible routes of infection by patients, operating theatrestaff, instruments and air with safe disposable products. Theresult is an end-to-end range for complete asepsis: dispos-able surgical gloves, disposable theatre clothing as well asdisposable surgical drapes for the patient and the operatingtheatre environment specially developed for major and minorsurgery. Standard custom procedure trays for frequently occurring operations and an extensive range of individuallypacked supplementary products as well as individually designed procedure trays for specific uses guarantee system-atic and safe performance of work.

Operating theatre products only become really safe whenthe packaging technology also meets the requirements forasepsis. For this reason our operating theatre products areprotected by multiple layers of packaging to keep them sterile until use.

The Foliodrape instrument cover is folded in a telescopic tube style to enable easy covering of the instrument table by one person without problems.
