he process for making couture-quality covered buttons is highly technical and complex, involving heavy industrial equipment, pneumatic presses and years of Texperience - so beware of inferior products! We often learn of substandard

buttons being made by people purporting to be button makers and the results usually speak for themselves.

Our range of buttons style and sizes is huge with something for every situation. Check out our new range of covered press studs, the latest word in high fashion. Our eyelet buttons have become extremely popular and we have extended the range to include four-eyelet buttons.

When ordering covered buttons send around a six inch square for up to 10 buttons but for size 40''' and above send triple that amount. If you want covered backs we will also need fabric for that.

Rouleau loops perfectly spaced and uniform length for a professional finish, supplied on a tape ready to sew into the seam. 30cm x 50cm makes 10 loops with buttons.

Spacings available are 11mm, 13mm, 16mm or multiples of those sizes. A traditional wedding dress typically has size 18 (11mm) highball buttons with the loops spaced at 13mm. This gives 2mm between each button for a close-spaced look.

If you have any queries ring us; we'll need the total length of the opening, size of buttons and spacing. If you are not ordering the buttons from us send a sample for sizing.

For a more contemporary look go for "flat" spaghetti with loops to match. This is made from 5cm bias-cut strips and the loops look best close-spaced as in the photos.

4mm eyelets are used in belts and bodices.5mm also for dressmaking -in gold, silver or old gold.25 and 40mm eyelets (very large!) are suitable for curtains - in brushed nickel or gold finish.Sizes are the internal diameter. These are shown to scale at half actual size.

Traditional rouleau spaghetti is made from 4cm bias-cut strips to form a "spaghetti" that is approximately 3-4mm diameter.

This is then used either to lace the bodice through eyelets as in the picture left, or else through loops made from the same rouleau - see opposite.

Send us 4cm bias cut strips 20cm longer than the required length.

At Harlequin we've been in business since 1968 and back then there were many great companies making superb belts here in the UK. But those days are long gone and today we stand alone.

Our distinguished list of customers reads like a Who's Who of British fashion; from Vivienne Westwood to Roland Mouret, Jonathan Saunders to Catherine Walker.

Fabric belts with a matching fabric buckle are 9.75 and are supplied with a belt-loop and five eyelets 1" apart, the centre one is to your waist measurement taken over the garment. Extra eyelets are 65p each. For a double row of eyelets and extra prong add 5.

You can supply your own buckle (or choose one from our Haberdashery catalogue) and we'll make you a belt for it at 8.50.

All our belts are stiffened to a natural dress weight but extra stiffening is available at 4. Fabric lining is 3 and top-stitching 3.

A curved belt or a piped belt is an extra 6 or a unique one-off belt made to your own design will cost 25.

Belts are supplied with a Cambrelle backing but you can have a fabric back 5, simulated leather 5 or genuine leather backing 9.50.

Returning scrap fabric is charged at 3.40 per order.thPrices all include VAT at the new rate (effective 4 January 2011) of 20%.

Full payment must accompany all orders! We accept cheques (to "HARLEQUIN") and credit or debit cards.If you do not have enough fabric in one single piece we are sometimes able to "work miracles". An extra charge will be made, depending on the work involved.If for any reason you are not happy with your goods return them with all paperwork you received with the order. If an error is due to incomplete or incorrect instructions, or failure to follow our instructions correctly then a charge will be made.An order is accepted on the strict understanding that all liabilities of the company to the customer shall be discharged upon receipt by the customer of a satisfactory article to specification or failing this upon refund of remittance.

PostagePostage & packing charge is 4.40 per order. This includes the cost of packaging and handling orders as well as the postage. Orders despatched to multiple addresses will be charged accordingly.Delivery to address outside UK is charged at a minimum of 3.00 extra, depending on the destination.

Urgent OrdersPriority Despatch will ensure that your order is sent back to you the same day we receive it - but for sewing we need to receive it before 9.30am. A charge of 9.95 for each item will be made for this service. 1. Ring first to check that we can do it. 2. Mark your envelope and order form in bold red ink "Priority Despatch"3. Ensure that full payment is made. Note: Priority Despatch orders will be sent by normal first class mail unless Special Delivery is also requested and paid for.Special Delivery guarantees delivery by 1pm next working day. Charged at the standard Royal Mail rate plus VAT, plus our P&P charge of 4.40

How long does it take?Orders for buttons or belts only will normally be despatched the next working day after we receive it. All other orders will normally be despatched within seven working days. Turnaround time is dependent on seasonal workloads and staffing levels so ring in advance if your order is in any way time-critical.

How to orderCut out order slips for each item. Staple a small piece of the fabric to the slip with the right side facing out. Pin the slip to the fabric. Complete the order form and slips and put enough stamps on!!
