Harbor Club is pleased to announce that Chuck Walsh has joined our real estate team as Director of Sales. Chuck and his wife, Cathy, live on Lake Sinclair. Charley, their son, is an active Captain in the U. S. Army. Captain Charley Walsh and his wife, a nurse, have both served tours in Iraq. Currently serving his eighth year of duty, Captain Charley is now serving at Fort Stewart. We invite all of you to come by the sales office and visit with Chuck.

We send a great big “thank you” to the 108 property owners who became part of Santa’s Honor Roll by contributing to the Harbor Club Employee Fund. This annual act of generosity continues to help make a Merry Christmas for our employees and their families. No other community in the lake area matches this “gift giving” honor. Santa’s Honor Roll for our employees sets us apart from other Lake Oconee communities.

Darrin Shelly has been appointed the new Operational Manager for Troutdale Restaurant. Angela Dell will resume complete responsibility for membership and Harbor Club event bookings.

Updates:Security office roofing renovations are almost complete. • Club house renovations have given a new look to its • interior.Carriage Ridge investors have a new home under • construction.

Harbor Club and the Harbor Club MPOA both continue to make significant improvements throughout the community. The MPOAs reserve continues to increase and Harbor Club remains a debt free community. Both are a rarity in today’s economy.

Again, thanks for continuing to make Harbor Club the best place to live. We remain the premier community on Lake Oconee.

Harbor Club staff, administration, and ownership wish each of you a healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year.

The Troutdale at Harbor Club would like to introduce Chef Jameson Marslender.

Although born in Hartford, CT, Chef Jameson Marslender is more than a mere Yankee. Spending years in coastal Virginia and on the islands of the Outer Banks, NC, he honed his skills working with fresh sea fare and local produce. While living in Atlanta, GA his love of southern food and passion for French technique has led to the marrying of the two. Most of his favorite dishes are as he puts it, “Down home southern cooking with all the finesse of a French countryside meal.” Having traveled throughout

much of France, he believes in the basics. Jameson says,” Fresh breads, cheeses, meats, produce, and of course wines, are all staples of life!”

Beginning his culinary journey at the age of 14, the dish pit was his launch

pad into the world of the kitchen. “I was always asking the cooks and chefs for small

tasks to do and quickly picked up on knife skills and basic techniques.” says Jameson. Working in multiple AAA Four Diamond rated restaurants (The Left Bank in Duck, NC and Joel in Atlanta, GA) he is no stranger to fine dining and service. For the past two years he has served under Executive Chef Martin Smetana as Banquet Chef and Purchasing Manager of the Foundry Park Inn & Spa in Athens, GA. The combination of the two guarantee Marslender to be an asset to any food and beverage company.

We would like to welcome Chef Jameson to our team here at the Troutdale at Harbor Club!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! We look forward to seeing you in the Restaurant soon!

HChuck WalshDirector of Sales

Harbor Club is pleased to announce that Chuck Walsh has joined our team as Director of Sales. Prior to joining Harbor Club, Walsh was Director of Sales at the Reserve at Lake Keowee and was previously Vice President of Sales at Reynolds Plantation.

During his 20 plus years in Atlanta, he managed the southeastern regional offices for two national commercial real estate consulting and valuation firms. He later functioned as the Chief Operating Officer of a financial services company that was a subsidiary of GMAC Commercial Mortgage. Chuck holds the MAI (real estate valuation) and CRE (real estate consulting) professional designations. Originally from Eufaula, Alabama he attended the University of Alabama where he majored in real estate and finance. Chuck and his wife Cathy have four children and 6 grandchildren. Their youngest child, Charlie, is a Captain in the US Army and is a Company Commander currently stationed at Ft. Stewart, Georgia. Both he and his wife Marylynne, a registered nurse and a former Army officer, have completed tours in Iraq.

We are excited to have Chuck leading our sales team and look forward to his assistance in helping Harbor Club reach new heights.

Happy New Year to everyone! In 2012, we will be bringing back the SPORT HALEY fashions for the ladies. The first shipment arrives March 1, and includes a variety of colors in their Aerocool/Spandex products and “Blueberry Tart” fashion pieces. In men’s wear, the GREG NORMAN line will be in February 15, with ¼ zip performance mocks in black, cinnabar, and dolphin. With the success of “belly putters” on Tour in 2010, we will be inventorying a variety of long putters from Odyssey, Cleveland, and Titleist.

Thank you for all your past support and we look forward to serving your future needs.

From the Pro

AJ. R. McCroskeyGolf Course Superintendent

As 2011 comes to an end, I always look back and reflect on the year in preparation for the upcoming one. Overall I can say that 2011 was a successful year for us. Despite extreme weather conditions, the golf course faired extremely well. The Bentgrass greens have recovered well throughout the fall and are now in as good of shape as I have ever seen them during this time of year. The changes we made in our nutrient and fungicide program, along with a few new agronomic practices proved to be part of our success this year. The golf course bridges have recently been resurfaced and we will continue working on other scheduled beautification projects throughout the winter.

On behalf of myself and my crew, I would like to thank the Harbor Company and the CRC for their generous Christmas Bonuses distributed at our annual employee Christmas Party. I would also like to say a heartfelt thank you on behalf of one of our employees, Jorge Zavala, to this community for reaching out to him in his time of need. The generosity and love that we feel from this community and its property owners are what makes Harbor Club a special place to work. I have been fortunate enough to work at a few of the finest courses in the southeast and needless to say it is a privilege to be associated with one that makes employees part of its family, something you rarely find elsewhere. Thank you and God Bless

Around the Greens

From the Lesson TeePutting is not the easiest part of golf; but, it is the simplest and the shortest swing motion. Here are two drills that will help you overcome the most common putting faults I see on a regular basis. The idea behind both drills is to give you “something to do” versus “something not to do”.DRILL #1—LEAD HAND ONLY. Grip down on the putter with the left hand (for right handed players) only; and, make a series of putts from a short distance. Feel the difference in pulling the putter through impact, instead of pushing it through with the other hand. This will help keep consistent loft at impact, and the roll more consistent.DRILL #2—LOOK AWAY DRILL. We talk about posture in the full swing, but not very much in putting. But posture is vital to putting, and a lot of amateurs have poor putting posture—they want to see where the ball is going, so their head and upper body come up out of position, creating inconsistent contact. Put a tee in the ground about 2 feet behind the ball on the putting line. Address the ball, look back at the tee, make your normal stroke, and keep looking at the tee until you think the ball has reached the cup. Contact and distance control become considerably more consistent.

Around & About

TJudy StultzHarbor Club Resident

This “Most Wonderful Time of the Year” is nearly over and a New Year ready to begin. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas season with friends and family. Harbor Club residents certainly had a lot going on in these past few months.

Before closing out their season, the HCLGA held a luncheon to bid farewell and honor one of Harbor Club’s favorite and most accomplished ladies. Jean Chesnut was not only Queen of the Greens (she was the Women’s Club Champion 8 Times), but also one of the founding members of the Harbor Club Ladies League and an avid/excellent Bridge player. We’ll miss you Jean!

Be sure not to miss Leigh Lofgren’s, Photo Exhibit, Out of Africa and Other Cool Locals, now at the Madison Arts Guild’s Mier House. It runs thru January, so be sure and make time to take a look when you’re over that way.

Travelers, Jack and Val Ledyard recently got back from Africa where they visited Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, stayed in safari camps in Botswana and spent a few days in Cape Town, South Africa before returning to the states and home. Val says it was, “Fantastic”!Janie and Bob Legg were home just long enough to catch their breath before going off on a Budapest to Amsterdam cruise in October. After a two-week hiatus they boarded a plane to Italy for a Rome to Ft. Lauderdale crossing.

Seven time “Best of Atlanta” winner (and Paula Deens’s first cousin),

Johnnie Gabriel, shared a few of her baking secrets with the HCLL ladies at their October meeting. Later in the month

they trekked to Eatonton for the ghostly Halloween Cemetery Tour.

November took the ladies to Madison and La Petit Jardin where they learned to accent their plantings with succulents ~ later met at the popular Town 220 for lunch ~ then “shopped ‘til they dropped”. Ladies in RED dominated the annual

Around & About withJudy S tultzHCLL Christmas Party held in the festively decorated lakeside home of Terry Subacz. It was a terrific and fun way to put everyone in a holiday mood.

The Macon Opera House and “Miracle on 34th Street”, (after dining at the Downtown Grill) rounded out the ladies 2011 activities.

Santa made a special appearance at the clubhouse one Saturday morning to meet, greet and have a holiday breakfast with Harbor Club kids and grandkids. All of course, were on their very best behavior with the Big Day coming up soon!

Our Literary Ladies of the Lake made their annual visit to Washington Grass Inn for their Christmas Luncheon and gift exchange ~ and somehow managed to discuss, Suite Francais, in between bites of Gloria’s decadent desserts.

Millicent Zamirowski and Dale Fahey of the Christmas Kids Gift Committee and crew donated and delivered 130 packages to Greensboro and Union Point Elementary School to insure that no child went without a present from Santa.

If you attended The Festival of Trees (benefiting the Boys & Girls Club) in Greensboro, you probably thought it an HC affair ~ as so many of our residents volunteered to help make the event such a success.

Tennis

TLeigh LofgrenHarbor Club Resident

The Harbor Club Tennis Social to introduce our Pro, Ron Estrada, on Wednesday, November 9th was a great success . We hope to make these a regular event as we played for several hours and a great time was had by all. I would like to welcome our newest addition to the HC courts, Leslie Manley, who has moved from Augusta with her husband and father. It is great to have her here with us, not to mention, having a super player to join us on the courts. Please remember to check the standing reservations sheet located inside the glass cabinet by the courts and use the sign up sheet to book a court and time for casual play at times not already reserved. Please do NOT take the balls from the score posts and report any misuse of the courts to HC Security or Administration. For Racquet stringing, contact HC resident Steve Weiser at (706) 453-0799. If you would like to become involved in our local tennis community, visit www.LOTAtennis.com for league and play information. Membership is only $15 a year.

For all of you who have not yet taken your free lesson with Pro Ron Estrada, please contact him to book a time and date as he is a valuable asset to Harbor Club and a great Pro to take advantage off! I am thrilled to see Charlotte Hummell, Joan Bramblett, Terri Subacz, Linda VanDuzer, Patty Monteleone and Dale Fahey (to name just a few) on the courts each week and with the exception of Dale, all have returned to the game and good to see these wonderful ladies away from golf just once a week and back on the courts! Tennis is the fastest growing sport in the US and if you haven’t tried it or have not been out in a while, get with Ron, learn the game and get fit. Any further questions or information regarding tennis in the area or to book a permanent spot at HC, please contact me on 706-431-6133. I wish you all a very Merry and safe Christmas and a glorious New Year. See you on the courts.

The Seven Golden Rules of Tennis Strategy: Get your first serve in1. Give your opponent less time to hit the ball2. Take only one risk per point3. On big points, force your opponents to hit the big shot4. Plan ahead to set up your point. “The smart player does 5. not try to pound the ball past his opponent on every shot. Don’t try to hit a winner from an inappropriate court position because it leads to too many errors. The smart player combines shots that so that each shot makes the following shot more effective. Point combinations let you take the offensive by hitting progressively easier shots while putting your opponent in progressively more difficult positions - Peter BurwashDepth is more important than power6. Know when to attack a weakness. “To take maximum 7. advantage of an opponent’s weakness, you have to set up your opportunities. Hammering away at a weakness may give your opponent more confidence the more he hits the shot. Instead, attack other parts of his game as well, keeping his weakness in reserve for big points. By attacking his weaknesses judiciously, you put maximum pressure on him psychologically as well as tactically” – Arthur Ashe

The building restructure is finally complete and looks great. It makes it much easier for trucks and high vehicles to enter and exit Harbor Club.

The security staff would like to thank all the residents for the kindness shown during the holidays. Your thoughtful gifts and kind words make working at Harbor Club a joy.

The security team has a goal of keeping Harbor Club safe for all residents and visitors. Recently we have had to issue several tickets for speeding, please remember the speed limit is 35 miles per hour on Club Drive and 25 miles per hour on some of the side streets. The Patrol vehicle is equipment with radar and camera equipment to record all violations. The patrol vehicle will be out on patrol during the weekends.

With the coming of winter, we could see colder temperatures and icy road conditions. Please be careful when driving.

Please remember to call security at (706) 453-0931 and inform them when you have service people, house sitters, pet sitters or visitors coming to Harbor Club. The security guard cannot let anyone through the gate without being notified by the property owner. All Guests must stop at the security gate to get a pass. Anyone allowing visitors or contractors to use the back gate will have the use of the back gate terminated. The back gate has multiple cameras recording and monitoring all vehicles that enter or leave Harbor Club via the back gate. Please accompany your guest if they are using the tennis courts.

We wish everyone a Happy, Prosperous New Year! Be safe and enjoy winter at Harbor Club.
