About Brian Mason

• Primary site considerations• Easing the load on primary sites• What MP replicas are• Demo: Let’s make a replica!

Session Agenda

• Primary site considerations– CAS vs Primary– Uptime and BCP considerations

Redundancy Considerations

Page 9: Happy Primary Sites

• Offload all IIS related roles first• Offloading the MP role doesn’t offload all

client requests as a hit; the MP still has to ask SQL on the primary for information like what package is on what DP.

Offloading roles

Page 10: Happy Primary Sites

Why bother with MP replication?• Even with CM12, the new replication

model doesn’t involve MP traffic• Old CM07 benefits the same way• Don’t offload SQL replica to a single DB

The MP Replica

MP Replicas - better

SQL Considerations

• MP needs SQL installed• SQL STD is free on CM boxes

– So are the other SC products, BTW!• SQL install tips:

– Always use a configuration file– Always slipstream SPs and CUs– Always cap memory on SQL– SQL12 offers an overall 10% boost
