Voting Season As Election Day draws closer, we are reminded that, as Catholics, we have a responsibility to participate in the civic life of our community

and nation. This includes being conscientious voters. To help in our formation in preparation to vote, you are encouraged to view the document from the United States

Conference of Catholic Bishops: https://www.usccb.org/resources/forming-consciences

-faithful-citzenship-pdf Love One Another Pastoral Statement On Civility

The Divine Physician in a Time of Pandemic

Read:

Pastoral Letter (diocesan webpage) pages 2-5 Matthew 26:26-30 “ The Last Supper”

Matthew 9:18-26 “Healing of the Official’s Daughter and Hemorrhaging Woman”

Understanding

Explain Jesus as the Divine Physician

Bishop speaks of “healing and unifying effect of the Eucharist” where do we need healing and unity in our world?

How does the Eucharistic Meal bring healing to someone's life?

Appreciation

How do you express gratitude to Jesus, especially when he brings wholeness and healing to your life?

How have your shared what Jesus has done for you with others?

How can Jesus in the Eucharist become your “overflowing core of love” and source of “inexhaustible life?”

Experience

Where do you need healing in your life?

How have you received healing from Jesus?

As a member of the church how have your brought healing to others?

Masses on TV As you may be aware, Immaculate Heart Retreat Center is

being utilized as a quarantine center for Covid-positive people who need a place to quarantine. You may also be aware that a Sunday Mass from IHRC airs on Sundays at 7:00 AM, 12 noon

and 6:00 PM on Cable Channel 14. These Masses are taped ahead of time. As the IHRC Chapel cannot be used, beginning

the end of September (the 24th) these Masses will be celebrated and taped in our Chapel. A few parishioners would

be welcome to come and participate. If you are interested, please call the office (466-3811) and leave your name. These

Masses will be on Thursdays at 10 am.

40 Days for Life What 40 Days for Life is: 40 Days for Life is an internationally coordinated 40-day campaign that aims to end abortion locally

through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a peaceful all-day vigil in front of abortion providers. 40 Days

begins this year on September 23. In order to sign up, contact Kathryn at

[email protected] or go to 40daysforlife.com and look under the locations tab for the Spokane vigil location. We hope you will join others in reclaiming the sanctity of human life for the Author of Life. If you have any questions, contact

Kathryn at 288-1670.

Stewardship (As of 8/31) Income Budget—YTD Received—YTD Envelopes & Plates $131,346 $71,414 Thanks to all who have begun offering your stewardship donations to the parish on-line! set up a one-time or ongoing donation online at: https://parish.thomasmorespokane.org/give

underestimate the power of prayer. If you would like to add someone to our prayer chain, call Mary at

466-0531.

recently from our Parish:

Ronald Branson, Jr. Smith Timothy Nancy Soukup Arden Chapple

Fall Activities As we get near the beginning of the program year in our parish, we are looking for clarification of what will be allowed in light of the pandemic

protocols. It seems we will be allowed to have “religious formation programs” at this point. So, start making plans to participate in the

following programs:

Religious Education Programs, Grades K-5, beginning in Oct.

Youth Ministry, grades 6-12, beginning Sept. 20

Sacramental Prep for Children, grades 2 and up, beginning Oct. 14

Adults, RCIA (keep your eyes and ears open for people who might be interested in joining the Catholic Church)

Adult Bible Study (See Below) beginning October 21-22.

Attention Lectors

The new Lector schedule has been sent out. This schedule will

run for the months of September, October, and November. Due to Covid

concerns, we will not be using any other ministers during Mass at this time. If you didn’t receive the new schedule, please email

Traci at receptionist@thomasmorespokane.

org or call the Parish Office.

Annual Catholic Appeal Commitment Sunday Registered Parishioners should have received information this

past week on the ACA. September 26 and 27 has been designated as “Commitment Sunday” throughout the Diocese of Spokane.

Stewardship begins with recognizing the gifts of time, talent, and treasure which God has given to us and then planning on how to

give back to Him a portion of what was given to us. As parishioners, we are invited to evaluate how they intentionally

give back to God in the areas of time, talent, and treasure.

Adult Faith Formation – Bible Study Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come

Perhaps no book in the Bible fascinates

people more than Revelation. Yet

relatively few people have studied the

book, especially from a Catholic

perspective. Revelation (2019 update) is an intriguing Bible study that

shows how the kingdom established by Christ in this Church is

intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. Jeff Cavins is the

presenter.

Saint Thomas More will begin an eleven-session Bible study

“Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come” on October 21 (9:00 AM or

6:30 PM) or October 22 (1:00 PM]. Classes will be held in the Library.

If you prefer, you may do the study at home with an on-line option.

Participants will view a 50- minute video presentation, followed by a

time of lively small group discussion and fellowship. For more

information or to register the STM website, contact the office (509-466

-3811) or call Jerry Simmer, 509-994-5870.

No meeting Nov 25 & 26 for Thanksgiving, no meeting Dec 23 & 24 for

Christmas, and Jan 6 & 7 for New Year.
