THANK YOU! THANK YOU!Parents and child care workers everywhere are well aware of

the fact that it takes a lot of money to raise children, whether they are your own or belong to someone else. When Happy Haven is operating at capacity, it costs about $800 per month to keep a child here. As each year starts we work on ways to get the word out about our child care program, and by the end of the year we are begging for help to help make ends meet.

Last year we helped 17 children with the basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, and education. Then add on the cost of the administrative expenses of running the business and it all adds up. Of all the girls in our care right now, we have only one who is being supported by a church. We ask parents to pay what they can but if they can’t, we take the child anyway in order to help them.

That’s where our supporting churches and friends like you come in who care about the work we do with children. Well over 100 churches help us on a regular basis. People help us through individual monthly support, memorials, honorariums, bequeaths, etc. When the end of the year comes, we ask again for help and guess what, we get it--because of your love for the children in our care. Again we ended 2008 in the black and under budget because you cared enough to send money. Happy Haven staff work as a team to help children. We learn to love them and each other.

We all rake and scrape to make ends meet to be able to keep our grocery bill to a minimum, to keep our utilities to a minimum, and even when gas prices go over $4, we still come out on top.

Happy Haven has the greatest child care staff in the world because we are Christians; we care about our children, and we have friends we can depend on like all of you to help in this endeavor.

NEW MEMBERS OF OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Since our last newsletter in October Darrell DeLoach, Dean Hagood, Jim Perry, Harold Reeder, and Tom Stafford have joined our Board of Directors. They join with Robert Gribble, Bob Pruett, and Burton Young to make up the Happy Haven Board of Directors. Darrell, Tom, and Bob are all members of the church at Willow Avenue; Dean is an elder at Holladay, Jim heads the benevolence team at Sycamore; Harold is the minister at Cave Springs in Celina; Robert is a member at Collegeside, and Burton is a member at Center Grove in Gainesboro. Every member is a faithful Christian and dedicated to the cause they serve. Brethren, welcome to our board!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO YOUR MONEY WHEN YOU ARE GONE?Are you among the many couples in the United States who are childless? Do you have some money saved? Do you have

an insurance policy you would like for someone to get some benefit from when you’re gone besides the funeral home, Uncle Sam, etc.? Do you love children and would you like to help them in a long-range plan to better their lives in some small way? If you answered yes to any or all of the above questions, would you consider HAPPY HAVEN HOMES, INC. in your will?

There are many ways you can give to Happy Haven Homes now and later. Planned gifts are usually made from a donor’s assets, rather than current income. Planned gifts can provide both short-term and future benefits to you and Happy Haven, because deferred gifts provide financial benefits in the future. Outright gifts and some types of trusts can satisfy immediate funding needs.

You may be able to give land or buildings or non-cash assets such as stocks, bonds, jewelry or antiques.There are sometimes tax benefits to a bequest, so you should contact your tax advisor. If you already have a will, you can

add a codicil to your current will without having to draft a new one. In your will, you could bequest a specific amount to Happy Haven or you could bequest a certain percentage of your estate to Happy Haven. Contact your attorney as soon as possible to make all these ideas work for you and Happy Haven.

The bottom line is that you benefit from your money, and Happy Haven will benefit after you have gone to a better place. Please remember, “A dollar invested in a child will last forever.” Happy Haven is now and has always been affiliated with the Churches of Christ.
