It is 2016. A New Year and time to reflect on the last year. For our consultant facilities from a care perspective (our number 1 goal) it was a good year. Our progress to strengthening our care delivery systems is showing very positive results. We have made real strides in reducing falls with injuries, reducing pressure sores, and reducing the use of antipsychotic medications. Our Public Health Surveys are better than they have ever been and our

complaint investigations by Public Health with negative results are better (by far) than the State’s average.

The key to our facility’s success – Our Employees.

On the business side of our goals it has been a challenging year, yet we rise to the challenge. The State of Illinois

still has no budget and Managed Care is becoming more and more of the model for Medicaid. In Indiana we will be moving to a new reimbursement model for assessing

residents for payments that starts 1/1/16 and Indiana is planning within 5-8 years to reduce nursing home utilization. Overall, our census goals have been (a bit) under-achieved in some of our consulted facilities, but there have been some real shining stars too. In next month’s issue, I will review our collective goals for 2016. Let me close with some results of our paying it forward random acts of kindness holiday campaign. Whenever I or one of my elves (Mark Steinberg, Stephen Brumer, Wendy Janulis, Stephanie Peterson, Sherry Bengtson, and Helen Friedman) were in a facility and

saw a staff person going out of their way, paying particular kindness to a resident, or spreading great Holiday cheer, they were rewarded with a gift to show our appreciation. What’s Happening at South Suburban

Employee of the Year!!This was an exciting week as

several employees were nominated for “South Suburban’s 2015 Employee of the Year”.

The nominated employees were posted on Facebook and given the challenge of getting friends, family members, and co-workers to like their page. No one could have predicted the amount of posts, likes, and views the Facebook page would receive.

Decorating Competition In The Holiday Spirit Chateau staff were in the holiday spirit with our decorating competition this year. The 2A unit celebrated their

1st place finish, with 2B in 2nd, and 1B in 3rd. 2A welcomed the judges to the unit by singing Christmas carols with the residents. The staff made this holiday very special for our residents. Thank you to everyone for their help!

The giving spirit was also among us. Housekeeper Jacob Daniels was given a gift for doing a good deed, and paid it forward to Administrative Assistant Susan Hassel.

It’s been an exciting couple of months for Chateau’s FSD Shaunte Blackmon. He welcomed his first child, a precious baby girl, in November, and then won the Split the Pot raffle in December! Congratulations Shaunte!

Wheaton Care Center continues to go all out for the holidays. The staff participates in fun contests to keep the holiday spirit going.

The staff went Christmas Caroling in the facility, had a gingerbread house decorating contest, Ugly Christmas Sweater contest, wore crazy Christmas hats and had a door decorating contest.

NATONALCUPCAKE DAY

On Thursday December 3rd, 2015, Dyer Nursing & Rehab participated in the Dyer Chamber of Commerce “Taste Of Dyer.” This event is designed to showcase the restaurants and other venues to “show their stuff” to the residents of Dyer. Dyer Nursing & Rehab was asked to be part of this fundraising event. Our very own chef’s Frank and Tom dazzled the crowd with some great food. They prepared stuffed shells of either cheese or sausage stuffed shells. Our table was very popular with these wonderful and fabulous samples of food. Over $1000.00 dollars was raised to support food pantries and families in need in our area. A big “Thank You” to Frank and Tom for preparing and serving the great food that night. We will let you know the date of next years “Taste of Dyer” so you can come enjoy the wonderful food of Dyer (and the awesome food we serve at Dyer N & R) !!!!
